Living Room - During

Okay....here are a couple of "During" photos of the Living Room.
Still no wood front door with windows in it, no travertine tile on the fireplace.
But you see where I'm going.

Notice, the opening between the Living and Dining room is bigger in the "during" photos. We decided to pull out the reciprocating saw (you know, the one that looks like a meaner version of the electric knife you'd carve a turkey on Thanksgiving with) and Kevin went to town on the wall one weekend. We crossed our fingers the ceiling wouldn't cave in. So far, so good.

The floor under the carpet we ripped up was mostly wood, but partly concrete.
You see, the previous owner added a Master Bedroom & Bath, Laundry Room and Kitchen on to the house before we bought it. So, unfortunately, we couldn't just refinish the hardwood flooring. :-(
We opted to go with laminate wood flooring by Shaw in a chocolate umber color.
It's super durable, cleans up in a snap AND cost 84 cents a square foot. I found it on Ebay and we road tripped to Georgia to pick it up. We are on a TIGHT budget people!

Anywho, let me know what you think of the progress....I LOVE hearing your comments. Makes my day!

What a difference taking down the paneling made! The room already looks more open and airy!

Totally, totally night and day! It's just amazing what a difference a few coats of paint can make on dark walls. I wish I had paneling to paint myself- we're going to have go through and install ours (beadboard) so as you know I really love the texture the grooved wall creates. Loving it - great job!

The changes you have made so far are amazing! I swear, I have thought about installing paneling just so I can paint over it because I love how it looks. Thank you for tipping me off about the Southern Hospitality blog with the painting tips.

Hi Layla, Just found your blog from the link at one woman's cottage life. I am remodeling my cottage in Knoxville, Tennessee. Like yours, my house had been added onto and we find new surprises every day. We are going on 3 (yes, you read that right) years into this project. We think we are going into the home stretch now. Finishing all the trim work is about to do me in, but I know it will be worth it in the end.....otherwise I will take a match to this baby!

When we started, we could actually see daylight from many areas of the house! Every time someone comes out to do work I always hear, "Well, this is going to cost a little more because _______ (insert whatever you want here: doors, windows, blah, blah, blah) are made in different stock sizes now so we'll need to do this custom."

I love what you are doing. I can see that you are a woman of my own heart. Seeing the pictures hung on the wall with trim work still to be done...my house is just like that.

Good luck. I look forward to your progress.

Hello!
The paint color we used in the Living Room is called "Natural Choice" by Sherwin Williams. The number is SW 7011. I tried about four different colors before arriving at that decision. It had just the right amount of yellow/brown in it. Alot of the other creams I tried had too much gray, or were too "fleshy". I like the fact that it's almost the same color as French Vanilla ice cream, so the crisp, white trim really pops!
