So here it is.
Our house...
It's made out of cinderblocks.
Yep, that's right- I said cinderblocks.
My husband was appalled the first time we drove up to it, but I convinced him that maybe we could cover the house with wood siding, or even just paint it another color (other than gray) and it would look okay.
(Can't believe he bought it!)
>:-)
I figured I'd start the blog with an exterior shot of our house, and then ease you into the interior photos slowly.
Very slowly.
Because I'm telling you, they're scary.
And I don't want to scare you away right off the bat!
The photos I'll be posting are mainly "before" pictures, because we haven't fully finished any of the rooms in the house yet.
We're in what feels like a never-ending "during" stage.
Just ask my back.

I *love* the cinderblocks! I love the texture of yours and think they would look great as is or painted. Personally, I'd never cover it with siding - charming enough as is!
ReplyDeleteOh, girl, I hear you about the interior and the neverending *during* stage. (Have you seen my ugly house photos entry?) In a perfect world, we'd have these projects wrapped up in no time, but in our (do-it-yourself) world, there's only so much time or money and we just have to live with a s l o w house transformation. It's better than nothing, I suppose!
Looking forward to seeing more! I'm pretty sure my ugly house photos will be worse than yours, though, so don't be too reluctant to post!
Layla,
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute house! I have to agree with Kim, the cinder blocks add some character. As soon as I saw the photo I think I said out loud- how cute! You've got some great shape to your house. Be glad it's not a 65' long ranch (sigh) like mine. Never forget, anything is possible in 'Cottage ~Land'. I can hardly wait to see all the pictures of your hard work.
P.S. Maximus is an awesome name. We almost used it for our golden, but for some odd reason (my husband's reason) we went with 'Dave'.
Happy Birthday!
I don't mind the cinderblock at all, but if you are set to change it, real stucco would be easily done.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to change it up you could make it darling doing a stucco finish.

I wouldn't have known it was cinderblock if you hadn't said so. I absolutely LOVE what you guys have done to your house, it is just beautiful. We live in a small older home, and you have greatly inspired me! If only the houses on my street looked as good as the ones on yours...
