I'm more of a Walnut gal, than a Cherry gal.
So the doors, drawers and inside of my China Hutch has really been bothering me.
When things bother me, I usually call my Mom or go straight for a paintbrush.
In this case, I went for the brush. :-)
I painted the drawer fronts and the door fronts black, to match the other cabinets in the kitchen. I'm thinking about painting the inside-back of the cabinet a fresh shade of green and loading it up with white dishes. What do you all think?
In this photo, you can see where I've painted the drawers and doors, and started adding new drawer pulls:

Curious to hear your thoughts! :-)
Love the re-do!! I'm a sucker for black on any large piece of furniture!!
ReplyDeleteI love what she did over at The Nesting Place with Damask paper on the back of her hutch. Check it out:

Love it! Anything you put inside will pop against the black. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts? This is spectacular!! It's like a new piece of furniture. I think the green would be beautiful; I just don't have the guts to do it (plus my walls are already green). However, I do have a hutch similar to yours and I did all/mostly white dishes. I just love that look. Whatever you do, it'll look amazing.
ReplyDeleteNew reader here. I love your style. You can see why. . .

I just painted a hutch the same way!
I def. love the new look!
ReplyDeleteI think painting the inside green would give it a very modern feel which would work well with the hardware you added. The white dishes would be awesome against the green backdrop. Nice job!!
ReplyDeleteOh, you know I love this, Layla. I think the green would be great..go for it!

I like it! I think the green would just be so fun- go for it. I have built in bookcases flanking my fireplace and I think I am going to paint the back of them. The whole(two story) family room and open kitchen are the same yellowy taupe so I think it would add some color in here.
ReplyDeleteHave you opened the place with your mom? We are in N AL so let us all know if and when it is open.
Looks FAB!
ReplyDeleteI think you will love the green...but also love the idea of a cool/kicky wallpaper.
ReplyDeleteIkea pulls? What a great difference! Beautiful job on your kitchen!
I love the black and I think the green is a fabulous idea. However, Linda's idea for a kicky wallpaper is a great one too. This could be put on some sort of board, then placed against the cabinet back. Make it temporary, in other words. Can be easily changed out for a new look, when you want.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!

Looks good. I think I recall an inspiration pic, of something similar. It looked awesome, so I'm sure this will too! Go for it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI think painting the inside green would be lovely. It would really highlight white plates/accessories. I painted the inside of an old antique white china cabinet lime green and I love it in my kitchen. Go with what you like. You have great taste!

love it!!! did you prime first or just paint? can't wait to get back online and catch up!!
ReplyDeleteNancy-
ReplyDeleteI lightly sanded with a super-fine grit sand paper, then I primed, then I painted, then I poly-ed.
The inside back is going to be a little trickier, because it's got all the grooves. But since it won't "get a lot of traffic", I'm not too worried. :-)
Layla
Looks great - I must agree with you, I too am sooo much more a walnut than cherry!
