Reading Room - Sneak Peek

I wanted to give you a few sneak peeks at the room I'm calling the "Reading Room".
It used to be a bathroom, but when we moved in, there was no toilet, no sink, no vanity. Nothing. Just a plywood floor and one window. It's only six feet wide by six feet long. Hmmmm....the perfect size for a twin size bed! So we opened up the wall that had the door on it, and that's how the Reading Room was born. We haven't laid the flooring down yet, or installed a cute little chandelier, or accessorized, but I have started pulling the bedding together, and I did paint the walls. Take a look:

I found the table at Home Goods in Birmingham. It was a reddish-orange wood, and the legs were gold. I used a rusting kit on the legs, and painted the top the same two colors I painted the walls with. I've got a ways to go, but I'll keep posting photos as the room transforms.

Here's a break down of the cost so far:

Table - $39.00 (HOMEGOODS)
"Medici" Euro Shams (in Bran) - $24.99 and $21.99 (EBAY)
"Pick-Stitch" Euro Shams (in White) - $19.99 each (POTTERY BARN OUTLET - GEORGIA)
"Medici" Bedskirt (in Bran) - $12.99 (EBAY)
Sheet Set - $29.99 (TJ MAXX)
Basket - $7.99 (WALMART)

So, I've spent about 150 bucks so far. Not bad considering I sort of got an extra bedroom out of an old bathroom! Ha! :-)

  4. That is so not fair. I must see more! Every picture was spectacular, and I want that table!! I've always been intimidated by stripes on the wall. Was it difficult? Oh, and I don't have a Homegoods close by. I'm envious. The room looks beautiful, Layla. Please don't forget to show us more.

  9. Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting. I love what I see here! I have gotten so many good ideas/ ways of approaching decorating from Rhoda at Southern Hospitality and Nester at Nesting Place and now looks like I've got your inspiration too!

This room is really starting to come together! I love how you give your sources too. See, this is how I'm realizing I don't have to spend a fortune to get good looking accessories if I know how to put it all together well. I'll be back! And stop by my blog Thursday to enter my birthday drawing!

Oh, I LOVE your hair in your profile pic. Perfect for hot days.

  13. Just looked through your whole blog. Lovely! You obviously love what you do and do such a wonderful job at it. Love the videos. What kind of editing program do you have? I usually depend on Jason (hubby) to do that sort of thing but maybe I should figure it out. I've been wanting to put a video of my daughter's dance recital on You Tube since May! Look forward to keeping up with your new creations.

  16. Beautiful and your photos look like they are out of a magazine! I love the striped walls too! I tried that in my bedroom because I had seen it somewhere and it turned out horribly. I think I just choose the wrong colors though. Yours are very soothing...can't wait to see more!
