Got some more work done in the Kitchen and Dining Room this past week, woo hoo!
My mom and her husband gave us some beadboard they had left over from a project they had recently worked on, so we put it to good use as a backsplash in our Kitchen. Here are some photos of the project from start til now:
I also finally picked out some fabric for my Dining Room curtains.
I went with something kind of unconventional. I chose burlap!
It was $2.16/yard, and required very little sewing. I just hemmed the top and the bottom, attached the panels to some ring clips, and voila! Instant custom-length drapery panels for 28 bucks total! I love the "cottage-chic" look of them, and being the texture-junkie that I am, they are the perfect choice for me.
(I need to get a couple more packages of the ring clips, so the folds aren't quite as deep.)
Love the glass finials on the ends of this rod:
The Lettered Cottage is finally starting to feel like a home. We closed on this house on October 31st last year...times flies when you're having fun remodeling...
I just found your blog and love your style! The beadboard rocks!! Over the past year we have added it to many areas of our house. I love your black kitchen cabinets. Did you paint them or buy them? We had great oak cabinets but they were dated so we painted them black two years ago and I love them just as much as the day I painted them! Looking forward to more of your great ideas!
ReplyDeleteLayla,
ReplyDeleteEverything is so beautiful. You inspire me! :)
Did you put anything on the wall in the space where there is no cabinet above the stove? My sister-in-love has the same thing and she is wondering what to do with it.
You've done an amazing job! How great to get some free beadboard, to boot?! The burlap curtains are great as well...love the casual, cottagey texture!
ReplyDeleteLayla,
ReplyDeleteI love the burlap curtains. Affordable yet very chic. I'm considering slipcovers in the exact same fabric.
Your kitchen is beautiful. Love your cottage style.
Lisa
So beautiful! If ever you want more rooms to play with you can always come to my house! :)
ReplyDeleteLoving the burlap curtains! I just bought some of the same fabric for my pin board. I plan on using the left overs to make pillow covers for the living room.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what else you've got going on!
Everything is perfect. I'm a texture junkie too, so I'm in LOVE with the burlap. I almost did the same thing, but I found mine for $15.00. Couldn't beat that. :) I love the kitchen too! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteLooks great , love beadboard.
ReplyDeleteWondering what you have planned for above your stove?
Love the beadboard! Are you still going to paint it green like you mentioned? I think that would look so good.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful! I love the idea of beadboard as a backsplash. It looks great!
ReplyDeleteAnd your curtains look fantastic too. I'm tucking that idea away for future use.

LOOOOVEEEE it!!! I was thinking of doing a beadboard backsplash but I wasnt sure how to finish off the edge where it stops! Are you going to do any trim work on that? I look forward to checking your blog daily! I need more! Keep it coming!
ReplyDeleteThe beadboard looks great and I love the burlap!
ReplyDeleteReally nice ! I love the beadboard, I plan to put some on the walls of our to-be kitchen. Congrats, great kitchen !
ReplyDeleteYou're making a lot more progress on your house than I am. Wanna come to Austin? :-) I love the beadboard and burlap.
ReplyDeleteHi Layla,
ReplyDeleteI love the progress you have made. If our home didn't have really new clear coat maple cabinets and granite counters, I would totally do what you have done with the black and beadboard. It is beautiful! I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the burlap - you read my mind. I have wanted burlap curtains for so long but I need protection from the sun in our living/dining room because of the way the sun beats down on the hardwood floors so it wasn't practical. But I am now going to live vicariously through you. Awesome choices.
This is fantastic! I am a bead board lover -- have used it in three different rooms in our home. It's so classic, no matter what color you paint it. The whole kitchen is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteEsy, great...perfect (says I sitting in bed, propped up on pillows...just watching.)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the warp speed in which you work!
Ao much fun to watch you do your thang!!
Layla yall have done such a beautiful job on this kitchen.... the whole house really! I love your cottage look. It is so inviting and comfee looking to me. I like the "clean and fresh" look it gives to a home. Thank you for sharing it with me, smile!
ReplyDeleteI love your round table! It's unexpected and beautiful. Great idea with the burlap!
ReplyDeleteI like to think of us as twins separated at birth. Our mother cleverly named you Layla and me Leila so she could tell us apart :)
Hopefully she'll give me some beadboard too!
Everything you do is just so adorable.....love the beadboard. You and your husband are doing such a great job. Pure inspiration!!!!
ReplyDeleteReceived your giftie in the mail yesterday....thank you so much. And like I promised, I shared with my Meghan ( who loves your blog like I do)!!!! So what ARE you going to do in your laundry room. This winner needs to know (G)!!!!! XXX Annelies
The beadboard looks great. I am thinking of adding beadboard to the backsplash as well but wondering about how hard it will be to clean especially above the stove. What is the art piece above that chair in your kitchen?
ReplyDeleteHoly moly I HEART the burlap!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great. The burlap is a perfect fit. Also, I'm a huge fan of glass finials (and knobs for that matter!).
ReplyDeleteHi Layla - love your blog. Can you check out my blog http://casarue2658.blogspot.com/ and tell me what you think of the "Utter Decorating Confusion". You have wonderful style!
ReplyDeleteHi Layla
ReplyDeleteLOVE, LOVE, LOVE what you've done. I'm so going to use your services when I'm ready to do my living room (hopefully after Christmas).
I know you've gotten lots of questions on this post, so I hope you don't mind another one... Where did you get the rug that is under your dining room table and chairs? I think that would be perfect in my house.
Sarah
Love the burlap!!! The beadboard looks fab too. Seems like you guys have done more in a year than we have in six, I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. I've got beadboard put away that we're going to use for our backsplash as well. I was stressing over how to finish off the end because my cabinets finish before the countertop does, just like yours! Yours looks fine and I know mine will too. i guess we'll move onto our next project. Thanks for sharing because now I can move ahead too. lol!
ReplyDeleteWOW! It looks amazing. I also really love your canisters - they're so cute! Where did you get those?
ReplyDeleteCan I ask you for a picture of how you did the beadboard around your kitchen window? Did you go higher up - or stay the same height all the way across? I'm thinking this would be perfect to do in my kitchen but not sure how the break with the window would work unless I went higher on that section.
ReplyDeleteYou have done a fantastic job.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the progress.
Brooke
Haven't checked your blog in a while, just wanted to say your house really looks great. The cabinets look amazing and the curtains are really cool. We use a lot of burlap for different things, but those are the first drapes I've seen. Very clever! Good luck with the HGTV vid.

Layla...i need your help. i LOVE burlap and your curtains are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI now have an outdoor patio that i was thinking of making my own drapes for. I love the look of burlap...but i live in Florida. Do you think it will weather well? My plan is to add a fabric header at the very top.. I'm trying to make it an extension of the house and cut off some of the direct effect of the sun.
Can you let me know?
