You know what I mean. I know you do.
Take the photo above for example.
It's cheeriness just makes me want to jump into the picture! The red wicker dining chairs play so nicely with the checkered pattern on the white wicker armchair. The wire, garden-style candelier above the table feels so fun and fresh, its curves ooze whimsy. Greenery and fresh flowers scattered throughout really gives the space a pulse. The width of the planks on the floor echo the width of the planks on the ceiling, like one big, symmetrical bear hug around the rooms.
I can imagine sitting in one of those sweet little bar stools, with their low backs and cushioned seats, and just staring at that delightful plate rack.
From the row of primitive, linen cushion covers, to the most perfect little pumpkin in the world- this photo has me cuckoo for country. I would sit and dream up names for the color of picnic table..."Electric Splash"..."Freshwater"..."Caribbean Coast". The cupboard in the corner, filled with stacks of hearty, brightly-colored mugs and bowls deserves to have its cheeks pinched for providing storage in such an enchanting and cheery way.
Well, another storm is moving in, so it's time to shut off the computer and call it a night.
All of a sudden I'm really happy the Lettered Cottage is made of cinderblocks.
:-)
What great pics...We had a painted picnic table in our kitchen when I was growing up...love it!
ReplyDeleteI love those rooms, one cant help but feel content on those!
ReplyDeleteYep. Some rooms truly brim with life.
ReplyDeleteCareful use of photographic posters of wildlife can also help bring about such an effect.
Birds, for instance, add brilliant hues to the space. They also suggest calm and peace.
Hold tight...and yes, they make me smile!
ReplyDeletethey are fun and I hope you came through the storm okay. The first room is fun and magnetic. While I love the second room, I don't relish eating on a picnic table every night... ouch:)
ReplyDeleteBe well, The Hostess
Great pictures. There is something so welcoming about that first photo and the second is just something that sings to my heart.
ReplyDeleteyes! I loved your photos today and I am smiling right back...
ReplyDeleteI love the top photo - so bright, and happy - you are absolutely correct, it is a very happy, bright place, and the giant windows are just wonderful (I'm jealous)...the bottom one, not so much... It's a nice idea, but, from experience, the picnic table just screams splinters *shudder*
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll just hang a photo of it in the house ;-)
agreed. that's the sort of space you enjoy waking up to in the morning.. and seems to give you a big hug. :)
ReplyDeleteMy heart be still... I loved that first room. Splashes of Red just makes me happy :) and that combination of creative ideas, colors and textures in that second room - sure makes you start thinking!
ReplyDeleteThat bottom photo from Country Living is one of my favourites! When I first laid eyes on it, I wanted to immediately toss out my table and have my "handy-man" make me a good ol' picnic table.
ReplyDeleteI chickened out though...
If there were ever a room to describe me it would be that first one! And now I am wanting to throw the dining room table to the basement for a craft table (which is what it is anyway) and add a picnic table instead! I am feeling so cheery now, thanks Layla.

Seriously. At what point in my life can I have a kitchen that looks like this?
ReplyDeleteI am instantly obsessed!
Layla- I got my jar yesterday and love it!
ReplyDeleteIt will make the perfect cheer-me-up gift for a friend who has been down lately.
Thanks so much-
Carolyn
