  2. Hi Layla, I hope you dont mind, but I posted pictures of your kitchen on my blog www.binghamcottage.blogspot.com! I just love the black cabinets, the baskets, the open shelves, and the molding! You are truly inspirational to me - I even stole a couple of your ideas already. For my bedding - the Pottery Barn damask print, and the Behr "Ryegrass" paint color of your door, I used for my bar stools!

    Love it! Thanks Layla!

  3. Wow, What a small world! I grew up in Prattville! I didn’t realize you were from Prattville until I went to your AWESOME blog! My husband and I live in Birmingham with our two kids. We are in Prattville almost every weekend. We have a lot of family and friends in that area. My parents own Fat Boys BBQ. We love Prattville! I know a lot of people who live on your street.
We bought our first house in Birmingham about 2 years ago! I LOVE to decorate and I came across your kitchen in Rate My Space. You have an amazing talent!

  5. Hello! I just wanted to take a moment to say that I love your blog! I stumbled upon it this morning and can't stop looking through all of the photos! Your home is gorgeous! My husband and I just got married last December and, while we don't yet own our own house, I've been working on buying pieces and renovating for later on. Your style is dead on, as far as what I would like our house to be like. Thank you so much for sharing your knack for decorating with everyone!

  6. I have a suggestion for your front door knob. I recentley painted mine with Rustoleum Hammered Finish spray paint and it works beatifully. You don't need to remove the handle from the door, just tape it off really well and spray it. The paint will not clog up the keyholes so don't worry about that. My door knob was very similiar to the one you are wanting, only in brass. I wanted the brown/black finish on mine and thought I would give painting it a try before I spent the money on a new one and it worked! I also painted the brass kickplate.

  13. Hello! Random question here.... Are you still selling those cute herb crates? I noticed the designated site to buy them is now gone. Where can I find them? Thanks a bunch!

  14. Thank you so much for sharing your talents, tips, and advice. I caught your segment on The 700 Club and fell in love with the room. Your style is very similar to what I love and I also love and appreciate old, historic houses. They have so much charm; the brick, old sidewalk paths, breakfast nooks, built-in bookcases and shelving, old staircases, they are all so beautiful. I'm so excited I caught your segment because I am purchasing my own 100+ year old home next month and your talent is a huge inspiration to encourage me to decorate my home myself. Thank you for sharing. I cannot get enough of your website and look forward to enjoying more. You truly have a gift.

  15. Layla - I know it sounds super 101, but I would love it if you did a really basic how-to on sanding things to give them a great distressed look. There's such a fine line between authentic looking distressing and total cheeziness. I am wondering
    a. what you use to sand (I saw your little sander in shots of the guest bathroom door, and it looked so maneuverable. What is it?
    b. What areas you focus on to age
    c. anything else you think is relevant.
I'm actually very very handy and have done major renovations on my house - but for some reason - I get a little nervous about creating finishes like this. Faux can look so hideous if done wrong KWIS?
Any chance you'll do something like this? I think it would get a lot of hits.
    xo
    Hallie.

I think you are the next design star!!!! I am about to leave to go see if I can find window treatments like the VA Beach house. I live 8 miles from a Pottery Barn outlet. Wish me luck!!!

  17. Back in the spring, you posted photos of painter drop cloths you used as window treatments. I've looked at a couple of stores here.... Can you tell me what kind you used (or where you got them?)

I think it's a wonderful idea, and I can't wait to get some of my own!

  22. Hi Layla,
Love your site! The translation of that sentence is: You must always bring your pencils to class. But I must tell you that there is a typo on the word "class". In French, it is spelled "classe" (with an "e" at the end). Hope this helps!
    Have a great day!

  25. I have become slightly addicted to your blog since I entered the blogging world. Love it! You have a great style that is so fresh and fun. Our house has a different style than yours, but I love incorporating similar ideas and flea market finds. I thought you might enjoy my recent projects - painting our kitchen cabinets and a kitchen message center that I created. Both can be found at http://planninginbloom.blogspot.com.
Thanks for your blog, and good luck with the rest of your projects!

  26. I love checking in on your blog and seeing what fun projects you two have been up to. You are so creative and an inspiration to me! I loved your little store that you had set up but I can't seem to find a link to it on your blog anymore. In particular, I am looking for those galvanized stands (like the one on the cover of your e-book). Can you help me out?
    Love the blog! Thanks!

Since a friend told me about you I thought I'd tell you about something too and ask for your help! I know that this doesn't have anything to do with homes ore decorating but it is something I'm passionate about and as one of your loyal readers I simply wanted to mention it! We only need 2 minutes of your time for you to cast a vote. The cause? To fight human trafficking and change the face of consumerism globally. How? 28. Sooo great! I so ♥ what you do! Your videos are sooo much fun too, I especially love the bathroom built in clip at the end where you pat Kevin on the head etc. hahha. I started blogging myself a couple of days ago and really don't know what I'm doing yet, and I'm not even sure how I got myself to your site, but I'm so glad I did. Fantabulous!

  29. I just had to let you know I love your blog (I think everyone does from reading the comments). Your design and creativity are so much like my own that I get pumped up to do more everytime I log on! Much to my husbands dismay, I am also one of those that works on about 10 things at once and yes, it is a disease...an addicition/obsession to be more exact! The thing that I find the most stimulating though, is your bubbly, happy personality which just shines through. It's like hearing from an old friend when I read. It just puts me in the best mood. Thanks so much for sharing your passion and enthusiasm with the world. May the design force be with you!

  36. Hi Layla, just wanted to say thank you for posting the Easy Change wallpaper options a couple of weeks ago. I finally tracked down the turquoise/aqua print from the Beacon House Damask book and love it! I'm covering an 8 foot tall by 4 foot wide niche in my house in it (except in chocolate and taupe). It's beautiful! Wallpaper isn't just for grandmas anymore! Thanks so much - your blog is AWESOME and I check it several times a week - and I am NOT a serial blogger. : ) Blessings to you!

  37. Hi Layla,

I just wanted to thank you for being such a great influence! You have amazing talent and I love your style. We just redecorated a room for my son and daughter and were so inspired by your guest room. {I hope you don't mind if I posted one of your pictures and gave a link to your site:0)}. The end result was not exactly like your room, but we went for the same feeling...relaxing and inviting:0). Thanks so much for sharing your talent and wonderful ideas for budget friendly viewers like me. Our room went together for under $200!!

    Thanks again!

  38. Finding your blog has helped me to find my inner decorator!! You are truly talented and I thank you for the inspiration and for sharing your ideas. I know you frequent Ebay but I was wondering if you have checked out the local auction sites online. I am truly amazed at some of the things you can pick up for next to nothing, like right now this auction (http://www.rollerauction.net) has a former coffee restaurant and an insurance company furniture and equipment for auction. Sometimes I have to restrain myself from buying something I don't need just because no one else has bid on it -- like I really don't need another desk but gosh they have so many of them.

Again, thank you for sharing your life as your blog is sometimes the high point of my day.

  40. Layla,

I am in the process of covering a powder room walls with burlap. Have you ever done this or seen it done? Any words of advice? I've googled and searched all over the net for "burlap walls" and found hardly anything.

I started with a staple gun then had the "brillant" idea of using the sticky double sided craft tape that can be used for hemming. I have no idea how it'll hold up, but it sure is going up easy with it:)

  44. Hi Layla! I really love your blog and it is so wonderfully inspiring! I live in a 125+ year old farm house in NY and I was wondering if you would ever consider posting about decorating a slanted ceiling. All of the rooms on our 2nd floor have slanted ceilings and I am at a loss and have not found any ideas that fit the farm house style. I know any ideas or suggestions you would have would be wonderful. Thank you for being a little piece of "lovely" in my day!

This would be perfect paired with "Havana Cabana" scentsy bar to cast the scents of a the Caribbean throughout my spaces. The addition of this cute plug-in and yummy summery scent to my home excites me!!!

  47. Hi Layla, I've been following your blog for about a year now. I love your inexpensive way of decorating. I can never find what I want so I spray, sand, and recover everything. I even cut sheets for curtains. I also love your funny and wholesome personality. If I lived near you I'd say lets get a coffee and hit some yard sales.

  48. Hi there Layla and Kevin,

I am in Australia and LOVE reading what you are up to!

My husband and I are renovating a Heritage Listed house, and building an extension to accomodate the service rooms (kitchen, laundry and bathroom), in order to leave the old house free of 'modern-ity' (I made that word up).

I am so inspired by what you two do. I'm trying not to 'copy' you, but what you do is just so irresistable!

You are amazingly talented, Layla, and Kevin, you are a man among men!
    So wish we could meet.....
When our house is finished (at the moment the kitchen is on the back verandah, we eat in the hallway, and the 3 children share a room) we will have a lovely guest room and not only would you be more than welcome, I will send you a personal invitation to come and stay!

I wish you every success, and will continue to await your latest venture!

Thank you so much for your blog.
    Best regards
    Margaret
