It's that time of year again!
The Endless Yard Sale 2009 takes place this weekend, August 6th through the 9th.
It stretches all the way from Gadsden, Alabama to West Unity, Ohio. A total of 654 miles to be exact.
Sarah and I will probably leave Friday or Saturday morning, and meet up with Rhoda in Birmingham on our way to Gadsden. She said she'd join us for part of the trip, but plans to turn around and head back to B'ham before dark. I don't know where Sarah and I will stay on Friday or Saturday night, but hopefully we can find a peaceful place to rest our undoubtedly over-stimulated heads somewhere along the route.
HGTV was seeking teams of two for their yearly episode of the Endless Yard Sale, but I think I sent in our submission too late. (I just heard about the casting call 2 weeks ago) So we thought we'd take my video camera along and film our own little "endless adventure", which of course I'll post here once we get back. :-)
I'm very excited about this trip. If you're familiar with my blog you already know that I'm quite the junkie.
And by "junkie" I mean that I'm literally obsessed with peeking into peoples drawers.
Uh...that totally came out wrong.
These kinds of drawers!
And speaking of old dressers, I found these vintage, ceramic napkin rings on top of one while junkin' recently...
I love their big, bubbly hats, and tiny, clasped hands. So sweet!
I sent them to my friend, Kim, at the Daisy Cottage. They reminded me of the colorful palette in her fantastically whimsical home.
Sarah and I are so excited to take our road trip, and see what we can find for the flea market finds section of LetteredCottageHome.com. Wish us luck!
In other news, I've already created my "Grocery Store/White Room" design for the White Room Challenge that the Design Star contestants will be tackling tomorrow. I'll post it after the show airs. If you're not busy, and would care to join me for the show, I'll be on Twitter, tweeting my little heart out on each commercial break tomorrow night.
Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!:-)
Layla
HI, I'LL BE GOING TOO & FILMING AS I GO, MAYBE WE'LL SEE EACH OTHER :) GIO
ReplyDeleteWe(St. Jim and I...oh, and yellow lab Zoe) did the Nebraska Junk Jaunt last Sept. It was an incredible cultural and relaxing time for us! It's a 300 mile thing...love it. Doing it again this fall w/girlfriends. I have some great pictures from last year...maybe leading up to it I'll do a blog on last years. Have fun, can't wait to see what you do!
ReplyDeleteHave a great time! Maybe I'll put that on the calendar for next year! I've always wanted to go. I look forward to seeing your photos and/or videos!!
ReplyDeleteAmy
I can't wait to see the video of your spree. I watch HGTV's coverage of it every year--too bad you and Sarah won't be on there!
ReplyDeleteA cute story for you...my best friend is notorious for looking into people's medicine cabinets when he goes to the bathroom. He was at a party one night (and of course he looked), and the couple had stuffed their medicine cabinet with bottles to embarass him. He was mortified when they fell everywhere and poured all over the sink. Needless to say, he was caught red-handed and we all laughed hysterically! So...just be careful about who's drawers you're looking into! :)
This is so odd! This eve my hsb and I were talking abt that yd sale that went thru different sales that we have seen on HGTV! So I looked it up and we decided to do the part from Eaton to Cincy OH. I even emailed a few other bloggers in my area abt it, We've never participated so this sould be interesting, have fun and luck in you portion. Look forward tos eeing your finds.....Jo

ReplyDeleteOh how fun.
I love "sailing" as we use to call going to garage sales.
Wish I was on the route to invite you all to spend a night to recharge and regroup.
Can't wait to see all your goodies and your White Room challenge tomorrow.
Do you have a tractor trailer for the haul?
Happy Sailing. Geri.
That trip looks like sooooo much fun. Maybe someday I can do that! Sigh. Good luck in finding treasures!

ReplyDeleteI'm sitting here at midnight, exhausted from the sale we held this morning to raise $$ for my son's senior class mission trip. Every time we have a yard sale, I swear that I'm never buying ANOTHER THING as long as I live. Now I'm fighting an almost overwhelming need to check this out. It's a sickness, I tell you.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you find. Love the napkin rings too!
Ok I have been on vacation for the first 2 episodes, saw the first one in Anchorage but missed the last one, on a cruise. So will definitely watch tomorrow. White room,.... mmmm will have to think about that.
ReplyDeletePS Love your blog.
Laura
I love garage sales too! Sounds like a blast! I just scored a sweet chair at a garage sale today. Cant wait to read about any sweet deals you find.

ReplyDeleteI've never heard of the endless yard sale.. guess we don't have those kinds of things in mn? Have fun!
ReplyDeleteHave a great time, Layla! I so wish the sales wound their way through FL so you girls could lay your sweet heads at my house one night :)
ReplyDeleteHi Layla! Check out my blog - posted some pendant lights I made to hang over my kitchen island. I think they are right up your alley and something you could incorporate into your designs. I know you love texture, are handy and find great vintage baskets in your travels. This project was super easy! Enjoy the sale!
ReplyDeleteLayla,
ReplyDeleteHave fun! I was hoping to be in Birmingham to drag my hubby to this but we are having an Open House that weekend. Maybe "IF" I have moved to B'ham next year I'll be able to go and meet up with you, Rhoda and maybe even Judy (Gracious Southern Living) would go.
Cheri

Sounds like fun. I'll be in Chattanooga on Sunday so hopefully I can catch some of it!
ReplyDeleteOoooh, I didn't realize that was this weekend. I may have to head over to Gadsden and check it out!! I've been twice before and it was so fun!! I'm specifically on the lookout for a daybed frame. Maybe I'll get lucky!
ReplyDeleteI saw your blog when reading Rhoda about the Long Yard Sale. If you make it to Tenn. I'll be selling ontop of Signal Mt. 1 Mile past the Sequatchie Co. Line at Lone Oak Community Center. There will be about 50 Venders there. HGTV has even Filmed my booth for their Long Yard Sale Show. You could spend about 8 Hrs. on Signal Mt. there are so many people selling up there. If you make it to Lone Oak ask where Barbara and Jerry are selling and come see me.
ReplyDeleteHave fun!!
