Guest Bathroom - Let the Demolition Begin!

As soon as the Halloweenie Roast dust had settled, Kevin and I convened in our guest bathroom to discuss exactly what we should do with the 'lectric lavender reno-gone-wrong we inherited when we bought the house.

Do you remember the post I did about it a while back?

In case you missed it, you can click on these gnarly "before" photos to read all about it:

Today, in true Lettered Couple style- we decided to start ripping things apart the second we finalized our plans for the room.

Here's a short video that Kevin filmed while removing the cabinets, countertop and peel-n-stick floor tiles. (The "stick" on the bottom of the tiles actually got a little revenge on him in the end!)

We hope to have the vanity side of the room complete by end of the month. Among other things, our plans include an old farmhouse-style table flanked by built-in, floor-to-ceiling bookcase-style shelving. (Holy hyphen-filled sentence Batman)

It's bound to be a wild ride, as neither of us has ever renovated a bathroom or constructed built-in shelving (heck- we hadn't even used power tools 'til a couple of years ago!), but I have faith that Kev can pull it off.

The question is, can he put it back together! ;-) (hardy har har)

Have a marvelous Monday y'all, and thank you for the encouraging comments you left us last week. They were day-makers and we appreciate you taking the time to leave them. :-)

Layla

PS...I added Ever's name next to his parents names in our Halloweenie Roast poll. So if you'd like to vote for him and his sweet little shark suit you may have to visit TheLetteredCottage.net and hit "refresh".

  3. Can't wait to see! We still have our powder room to renovate...it is also a reno-gone-wrong by previous owners. We have a marble vanity top, that we will design around; but, that is all for now. We've been thinking about a farmhouse table as the sink base, but will have to custom build. I'll be watching you two for inspiration and ideas!

  9. Can't wait to see how it turns out! At least it looks like you have a pretty decent size room to work with. Here are a couple of bathrooms I renovated recently that started much (worse, unfortunately) like your lavender dream:

  10. Morning!
Rats, I voted the other day already. Ever is so adoreable.
Oh my, what were the previous owners thinking about with that color on the walls?? I know you and Kevin will make it look 100% better with whatever you do. Y'all will give it that LC touch.
    P.S.
I couldn't see the video. maybe you hadn't uploaded it yet. I will come back to see it.
    Have a great day!

  13. You guys are the absolute CUTEST. I love these videos. Also love love love the song you chose...Frou Frou's Beauty in the Breakdown was absolutely PERFECT for this (Imogen Heap is one of my all time favorite artists). Thanks for making your renovations so darn enjoyable to watch. : ) Cannot wait to see the end result! I am sure that it'll be no less than amazing...as always! : )

  16. Hee hee that lavendar bathroom is the same as one of our bedrooms we inherited! As my brother would say, "Just walking past that room started a migraine." Um yeah, repainted, FO SHO.

  27. Looking forward to seeing this come together! I'm sure it will be fabulous.

I was so glad to see Kevin carefully removing all of the old cabinets and fixtures. Hopefully y'all.....donated them? Maybe to a place like ReStore?

  28. Lavender fields!!! Wow! It's a good thing he had his shoes on!!!! I'm glad to see you didn't do what they do on TV to cabinets-they always use a sledge hammer! Does that make any sense? Go Palmers!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh really? You don't want to keep all that purple? ;) Yeah, that's definitely an interesting bathroom. Good luck with the shelving, I'm sure you guys will do just fine! I can't wait to see how it looks in the end!

  30. Horray for demolition! I am literally right there with you, as we have pretty much gutted our entire house in the past 2 days. Would love for you to see the big reveal towards the end of the month! I can't wait to see what you do with your space. Everything you have done in the past has been nothing less than perfect! All the best!

  31. It looks so institutional! I'm sure it will look amazing when your finish - best of luck :)

  32. Good luck guys! You can definitely pull it off and, when you do, you'll probably catch the attention of a few more envious blog followers :) The hubs makes fun of me for how excited I've gotten about buying things for cheap and fixing them up. Reading comments about you guys' "inability to use power tools" a few years ago is extremely inspiring.

P.S. The flourescent light kind of reminds me of a locker room scene from a horror movie. Happy Halloween!

  33. Oddly enough my parents just painted their guest bathroom fuscia! Their bathroom and your bathroom should have playdates :)

  34. Great plans ... just think if it wasn't so horrendous, the 'after' photos wouldn't be so wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Okay. So. I'm totally with everyone else here in the comments - What a horrible color! It's going to be gorgeous! A month! Wow! - But let me be perfectly frank here. What planet did Kevin come from, and where does a girl sign up to get one? I swear, every single (double meaning implied there) guy in my area of the planet is a complete bump on the proverbial would-rather-drink-a-beer-and-work-hard-on-turning-oxygen-into-carbon-dioxide log! Where are these spontaneous-transom-building guys hiding?!? Or, since I'm willing to reallllly lower my standards, guys who at least even know what the frak a transom IS?!?

  36. Wow. All I can say is that room is very...

    Purple.

  37. If anyone can do it, you two can!!!! bathrooms get a bad wrap, we've done TWO!!!

    Happy Days!

  38. WOW! It truly had me laughing out loud at the end but I kept thinking Kevin would fall and I was like NO! But it also made him look like he tipped one too many back at the halloweenie roast.

Jackie's comment has me laughing! I THANK GOD I snatched one up when I saw him. I think they need to be labled..."won't sit on my butt all day after work", or "I'm ready for any crazy idea you see in a magaazine or blog"!

  39. What a CUTE dog. Love it. You guys have such incredible taste. I love the vision and end product that you create. Wish I had your talent.

  40. Well, clearly I didn't pay much attention the first time! I can see in the videos that you had at least painted over the lavender :)
