Houzz Ideabook: Pillow Talk

Since buying our beloved fixer-upper back in 2007, we've pretty much been working on all the background stuff. Walls, ceilings, painting, re-painting, flooring, etc. But one day (over the rainbow) I look very forward to reeeeally decorating this happy little house too.

At the tippity-top of my decorating to-do list is throw pillows.

We got our sofa and chair-and-a-half at Total Liquidators in Montgomery, Alabama, and we've really enjoyed them for the past couple of years. The fabric looks and feels a lot like velvet, so they're super comfortable. The throw pillows that came with them are nice and plump, but they're not the most exciting pillows you've ever seen, and I'd love to hide them inside some more colorful covers at some point.

Move your cursor back and forth over the photo below to see what I mean...

Boy what a difference a few, fun throw pillows makes, huh?

For more throw pillow inspiration, check out my latest Houzz Ideabook.
It's called "Pillow Talk", and you can find it by clicking on the badge below!

Hope you're having a great week!

  3. I think its great that you are working on the "background". MUCH better idea than working on the... ummm... forground? =) I love your style so whatever you pick will be perfect. I can't wait to see. I just did a pillow post here...

  4. Pillows are such a great way to change up the decorating in a room. I think you are smart working on the larger items in your home first and then adding the smaller.

  5. Love the cable knit "sweater" pillow.....great texture to add to a room! You could make your own like that in a jiffy with sweaters you find at goodwill or salvation army. You can find some great stuff to sew with from those places....doesn't even matter if it has a stain...you're gonna cut it out anyway! :) Have a great day Layla! Hope you enjoyed the snow pics I sent you. :-D (we've gotten over 8" this week!!) YIKES! lol

  8. Layla,
Thanks for this, I have been looking for pillows for awhile now! Our living room has none, in part because we have leather couches and I was never quite sure what to put with the leather!

  9. How do you do that fun cursor trick?! I love that. I was looking at some new throw pillows for my Little Maine Room (check out my blog and see my ideas, I'd love to hear what you think!) Wal-Mart has some really nice striped pillows for $10.00 -I think I can find them cheaper. Hoping! Anywhoo, I love throw pillows! It's amazing the look they can give :)

  13. It only takes a morning or an afternoon to sew up a few pillow covers. Take a break from all the heavy duty stuff and give yourself a little treat by sewing up a few fun pillow covers. It's one of the most affordable and quick decorating projects. I'm changing over my pillows today - the red/white ones I made back in Dec to get through Christmas-Valentines Day (3 different coordinating red/whites from Ikea). With a lot of snow on the ground (I'm in NJ) and more in the forecast, today's project will get me through the winter doldrums and get the house on the way to Spring before mid-afternoon coffee break here (ok, so I have too many fabrics in my stash, and I don't have to get all bundled up in my winter gear just to go get some fabric!) Give it a shot, it's a good massage for your creative mind!

  14. Oh - you're speaking my language there. Some women love shoes, I love pillows. 'Nuff said :)

  15. God is in the details, right? That's where we see the personality in a room.

But Layla, is Kevin a fan of throw pillows? I have them, but my husband always says,"One pillow is one pillow too many."

  17. How serendipitous! I dreamed about throw pillows last night! Thanks for the great examples. My first will be a monogrammed, denim one with frayed edges for my son's bed. Yay!

  18. I want throw pillows so badly! I just can't find the ones I want for the right "$". I also have to consider that anything I buy better be really sturdy since my boys and husband have no respect for a "throw pillow". They take the title seriously and use it thusly. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

  25. I think we have the same couch or at least look the same! We got an adorable blue pillow with 2 brown birds on it that completely changed the look of the couch. I cannot wait to find more pillows! thanks for the inspiration.

  26. Wow, I seriously have three out of the four pillows you picked out!!

Guess great minds think alike ;) And, throw pillows are practically my favorite thing in the world. They can add so much to a room. I have all neautral furniture and change the color of my throw pillows with the seasons!

I was able to purchase mine because I did a focus group for Pottery Barn and got a $150 PB giftcard! So fun.. I'll let you know if I here of any more!
