Blue Hubbard in the Master Bedroom & Junk Bonanza

Thanks to everyone who voted on our "Pick us a Paint Color" poll last week!

"Blue Hubbard" won by a landslide, (yay!) so we had Sherwin Williams mix us up a small sample, and we're lookin' forward to having a gallon mixed up by these friendly folks with our True Value gift card...

PS- you have to tell Sherwin Williams it's an old Martha Stewart color, or they will look at you like this:

So very soon, our master bedroom walls will be this color...

The previous homeowner left us with lots of unfinished projects...

...so it'll be so nice to check "paint master bedroom" off our list!

But before we break out the brushes and rollers, we're headin' to the great state of Minnesota for a gig at the Junk Bonanza!

Will you be there too?

PS-

The winner of the Herb Crate Giveaway is:

  1. YAY! I live just a few miles from the Junk Bonanza location and was sort of on the fence about going... until I read that you will be there! What's your gig? I'm totally gonna come now.

  2. I'm excited to see your new paint up. I notice the floors aren't done yet. Remember that old doors make great floors. (Hey that rhymes! Maybe it can be my new mantra) Anyway I don't know if you looked at my post about the floor I made with old doors otherwise that would make no sense to you.
I would love to go to the Junk Bonanza but it's a little too far from Utah.
    Have a great time. Grams

  9. Great colour! It's the one I voted for. Your current yellow wall colour is the same colour as my WHOLE house is painted. It's a lovely colour, but I've had about enough of it...and the awful builder's quality paint. I can't wait 'til we can paint over it.

  13. well crud! i went to SW and did just that, and they looked up the color, trying to convince me that i meant blue heron. this explains why i couldn't find it, even tho it was FINALLY the right mix of gray and blue. i wanted to buy the paint during their sale, so i bought tinsmith instead. have you tried that? it also is the perfect gray blue, so i am happy with my gallons!

  14. You will absolutely love the Blue Hubbard, I am sure. Our whole house is in a color VERY similar to that (our builder would only let us pick ONE color, unless you paid a small fortune for additional colors...) So it is a lot of blue and we're looking to paint our master something different. I was leaning towards yellow, a lot like yours there except maybe a titch lighter, but now I'm nervous that is is not a good color to go with since you said "Blech!" about it. Hmmm...you definitely have me thinking now. And so I wonder--is yellow kind of out right now or are you just sick of it? I can't imagine you have time to answer all your comments but just thought I'd put it out there. Love your blog!

  15. My next door neighbor just told me about the Junk Bonanza but she couldn't remember the name of it and I was really bummed but now here it is, on your blog!!! WOO HOO!! Thanks! I only need to drive 3 hours to get there, a perfect weekend trip.

  17. Hey Chelsea!

I'm a HUGE fan of the color yellow- but the particular yellow in our master just doesn't "feel good" in person, and the previous homeowner didn't do a great job of painting it. (It's lighter in some spots, and darker in others, etc.)

One of my FAV yellows is Benjamin Moore's Weston Flax! Pottery Barn uses it in their catalogue's all the time- check it out!

  18. Beautiful color choice! I'm clueless when it comes to paint colors. I always choose wrong the first time lol! Have a good time at the Junk Bonanza!!

  19. Yay!! I voted for the Blue Hubbard! I think the poll is great for picking colors because it is SO hard! And it's nice to know that most people won't be secretly hating your color!! lol!

    Have fun at the fair!

  20. I'm a Silver Sage addict, but Blue Hubbard is so pretty and subtle, I might be persuaded to branch out. And the pictures on my screen are coming out prettier than I remember it from earlier posts. It's lovely, and very romantic. Great choice.

  23. Layla,

Glad your color of choice won the poll. Congrats to Laurel for winning the herb crates. So is your plan to empty your home at the Yard Sale with Rhoda and then fill it again with things from Junk Bonanza and the Country Living Fair?!

  25. Layla and Kevin, thanks for the inspiration. Question please! You go to True Value and have them match SW and Ben? Do you take the paint on a bit of paper or give them the name to get a closer match?

And, which paint and sheen do you like at True Value?

My little hardware store sells True Value and Ben and Ben is $40 per gallon!

    Thank you!

  27. Yay - I love that color!

Here in the Pacific Northwest we don't do a lot of blue b/c it's just too cold and dreary but I'm doing a robin's egg in one bathroom. That's about all I can get away with without turning our house into a mockery of an igloo.

Can't wait to see the results!

  28. You know I will be there! Am excited to see you! We will have some fun!

  29. Beautiful color...I really need to paint my master bedroom...in all of our houses that is the last room to get attention, it should be the other way around...time to make a change!

I wish I could get a ticket to MN!

  36. I was so glad to find your post about this paint color. We're trying to decide on a color for our nursery, and after I saw your blog, we got a sample mixed up that day! It looks very bright (in a good way) when the sun is coming in, but with the blinds closed, it's still such a serene color. Can't wait to see pictures from your bedroom!
