Trash to Treasure Project

What do you get when you cross a really, really old, ugly green scale with a new enamel-coated metal bowl, marked "Sundries"?

Answer:

I primed and painted the scale glossy white, and used a rusting kit on the face of it. The numbers where mostly rubbed off anyway, and I'm more of a "form before function" gal. :-)
Next, I used epoxy to secure the bowl to the top of the scale, and voila!
I'm not sure what I'll fill it with yet, or even which room I'll use it in.
Got any ideas for me?

  1. What about fruit in a kitchen or soap in a bathroom?

  2. Oooooooh. I like! How about in the bathroom full of unwrapped bars of Ivory soap? I could list a gazillion things that would look cool in there.

Where are you finding all these goodies (the old scale)? Do you yardsale? I think Bham has the best yardsales EVER. :) I didn't know Prattville had so much going on...I'll have to check it all out on our way to the beach in July.

  4. There's a GREAT place in Milton, Florida called the "Copper Possum". It's a HUGE place and is always brimming over with the best "junk". There's actually a whole stretch of places on that same road. (I think it's Hwy. 90) It's a dangerous place for me to be left alone with a credit card. >:-)
And to be honest, ALOT of my treasures come from Ebay. Just type in "old scale", or "navigational map" or "wicker covered bottle", etc.

  5. Now that's cute! I can see fruit in there or it could look great in a bathroom too. Very creative you are!

  8. Hi Layla! I am coming to you thru Rhoda @Southern Hospitality. She and I just spent the day junking in Sylacauga...we also met last Friday for the first time and had a great time!

I think a "baby tears" plant would look great in your little scale planter. (I think that's the name of the plant). I saw something similar done on HGTV years ago where a lady used an old yellow chippy mixer and put an ivy plant in the bowl...great look.

  10. I just went to the Copper Possum in Milton, FL in November --- yes, it's a great place. We were visiting the area --- used to live near there for 5 years! Great blog -- my sister told me about your blog today.
