Country Kitchen Cabinet Re-do

I received another email from a reader named Kim, which included these photos of her Kitchen. She said she was inspired by my "doorless" Kitchen cabinets. :-)

The first photo shows her cabinets BEFORE:

...and this second photo shows her cabinets AFTER:

I'm a big fan of keeping a lot of "stuff" off the countertop, and instead, having it displayed in an attractive way up above. I also like the fact that there is a contrasting color of paint inside the cabinets.

Great job Kim- it looks amazing!

  4. I do like the open cabinets! My husband gets so nervous when I start talking about "things" to do to our brand new home. Like painting the island cream with a glaze, or yanking off our cabinet doors. So many opportunities to decorate! I also love her game board, very cool artwork!

  6. Isn't it great when something you have done in your own home inspires others to do something in their own home? I so enjoy this myself. She did an awesome job! I love her displays, and as someone said, love the large letter on top.

Hey - have you heard anything back from HGTV? I'm sure you would have told us if so. I am sooo excited for you. I don't know you, but I "know" you from your blog. LOL Kinda like 6 degrees of separation. Keeping fingers crossed for you. Take care, Barb

  7. I just had my new cabinets ordered to go right up to the ceiling. I do miss the gap for those neat display opportunities for sure. I'm always searching for a place for neat stuff without cluttering up my countertops now. LOL

    Nice job!

  8. That's awesome! Usually open cabinets have a tendency to look overcrowded by I love the displayed look of these cubes. Your friend has a great eye for design. Happy new Year from Houston!

  9. It is a terrific look , not as functional as closed can be but way better looking she did a great job, you have to be very disciplined to keep your purchases in check I bet , but if you have loads what a feature.

  10. I gotta disagree with ya on this one Chris! :-)
I've found that my open cabinetry is even MORE functional than my old closed-door cabinetry was. The baskets in my open cabinets hold TONS of stuff, and keep it organized and accessible. The baskets wouldn't have fit if the cabinets had doors on them.

  12. In my parents' old cottage, the kitchen had open shelving. It really changes the whole look. It really makes it almost a work of art. And often we have such great dishes and collectibles, it makes sense to display them and enjoy them!

  13. I love the open feel of the doorless cabinets! It makes the space seem so much bigger.

It reminds me of a beautiful 19th Century Italian Baker's Cabinet that is used for display and storage in an Anthropology store here in Plano. It is a huge thing with open shelves and drawers and cabinets down below. I go there just to look at it and wait for the day I win the lottery - and have a big enough space to put it in...
