Guest Bedroom Update - January 2009

You may remember my Guest Bedroom as of last month.
Well, since then, there's been a little switcheroo.

Let me explain.

Kevin's Mom and Dad, a sweet Southern couple, have been married over 40 years:

They have slept on the same FULL-SIZE bed for the ENTIRE forty years.

Kevin and Layla have been married five years, and have a QUEEN-SIZE bed in their Guest Bedroom, that rarely gets slept on.

You see where this is going yet? :-)

Long story, short- this is what my Guest Bedroom looks like right now:

The size of this bed is much more appropriate to the room, than the Queen bed was.

I have plans to completely modify the look of this bed. Especially the headboard:

I've got an inexpensive, simple idea that is going to bring this bed into the current century. :-)

The footboard is great the way it is...

...just needs some paint.

I love having the bed in it's new position. It really shows off the wood wall Kevin and I worked so hard on exposing:

Since shooting this photo, I have moved the oar. It now hangs above the two windows, behind the new headboard.

I got a vintage rubber stamp holder on Ebay a while back, and can't decide if I'm going to use it in this room, or my Office. Right now, it's holding a photo of me and my Dad back in 1979...

...sweet photo...but would you let your 5-year old swim in water that color? <:-O
Ha ha!

  2. Great idea! Can't wait to see how the headboard project turns out. Your guest room looks so airy and cozy. I wish I had a guest room. Not that I have many guests, but I could sure use the extra space! ;)

  3. That exposed wall is wonderful! I can't wait to see what you do with the headboard and the stamp holder. I picked up a stamp holder just like that this fall. Here is what I've been using mine for in the dining room...http://whisperwoodcottage.blogspot.com/2008/12/festive-junky-holiday.html

  4. I LOVE that stamp holder. I remember going to work with my Dad when I was little. He let me play at a desk that had one of these holders filled up with great stamps. I think I stamped everything I could get my hands on. :)

  5. From experience with photos from the 70's I can vouch for your dad that the water was not really that color!

  8. What a nice DIL you are! We have a queen size bed and I would love to move up to a king but I think it would be just too much for our small room to take. Hmmm what we lose for looks...comfort. Your home is really looking camera ready...Im talking HGTV my friend!

  9. I got a chuckle out of the full size bed- my parents are the exact same way and love their tiny bed! My husband jokes that we need to get them a larger bed for a Christmas present!

That exposed wall is so pretty, and the bed pillows look even more plush on the full size bed. Can't wait to see the headboard transformation!

  13. I really liked the look of the bed against the wood wall, and the lovely light from the windows falling across it. It looked anchored and cozy that way.

  22. I just found your blog - I love your home! You've both done an amazing job.

I have a vintage stamp holder just like that, except it's three tiered. My mom gave it to me and it's waiting for me to do something wonderful with it. Any ideas? I'm thinking it would make a funky table tree for Christmas.
