I may not have done it the "right" way, but I wanted the bench to have a very rustic feel, so "my way" worked for me. :-)
I didn't use primer on the metal legs because I don't really care if they get bumped and some of the original green paint shows through. That'll just give them more character!
The bench cost just $45, and it was exactly what I was looking for- I needed something that would hold at least three booty's. :-)
It came straight from an old beer garden in Germany, and it's got German words carved into it's underside to prove it- too cool!
I'm getting a new rug (which looks just like my old rug- that Mr. LC spilled a gallon of white paint on) to use under the Dining Room table this week- so I'll post photos of the bench in its new home soon!
Hope you can learn something from the video. I'm not making any promises though- it may end up being more for entertainment purposes only. :-)
It was fun to get away from my computer desk, and get sweaty, even if it was only for a couple of hours. (But after editng my final cut- I told Kevin he may not want to leave me alone in the backyard, with power tools and a video camera anymore- ha ha!)
Layla
PS...Here is some extra footage I shot, that didn't fit into the video above.
(Youtube doesn't allow videos that are over 10 minutes in length.) >:-(
...and one more, just for fun, that I shot on the 4th of July at my Mom's house.
I ran for my camera when I caught a glimpse of Mr. LC strumming our 3-year old nephews guitar out by the swimming pool.
(He hates it when I videotape him!) :-)
The video is too cute! Love the end with the "bloopers". I think Mr. LC should let you keep making and editing your own video's!
ReplyDeleteYou are hilarious. I love that you left the eating dust, tripping, seeing a bug. The bench...awesome.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this video. It was great to see how simple it can be to make something so nice!
Oh! This video is sooo cute! I can't wait to see the bench inside - but what are you doing with the other bench in your dining room? Love that one also.
ReplyDeleteThanks for replying to my email about the prices for your photos. I'm almost done deciding how I want my arrangement to look then I can order them.
I look forward everyday to seeing all your ideas and new changes to your home. :)
Sarah
Loved that video. The best was watching you dodge the copious amounts of bugs! Lol Made me giggle. Looks great! -Kelsee
ReplyDeleteGreat video. LOVE the bloopers. Although after living in the midwest with many pesky bugs, etc., it does make me appreciate nearly-bugless California.

Great tutorial. You made it look so easy too. Very funny especially with the bloopers. I loved that you kept those in. It shows your silly side when tackling projects.

ReplyDeleteGreat video. Love your sense of humor and how you bring out the glamorous side of bug watching, er... I mean furniture redo. HGTV is missing out on a diamond in the rough. Keep doing the videos! I need more tips and love yours.
ReplyDeleteHaha, what a cute video! I have to say it was very educational to me - I'm a rookie when it comes to staining, and since I am about to do it to a piece of unfortunate furniture soon, I found the video very very interesting (I had no clue you should wipe the stain after applying!)
ReplyDeleteSo, thank you!
Layla, the bench is lovely but could you be any cuter??You completely crack me up~ LOVE the bloopers at the end.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous weekend,
xo

Love the bench and your fabulous video, too cute! Can't wait to see it inside the LC.
ReplyDeleteOkay Layla, here's the deal. I read you daily and haven't commented- But now, I HAVE to.
ReplyDeleteThat was seriously the best thing I've ever seen. So funny, I even made my husband watch it. Too cute.
Love the bench! It looks so good! FYI I definitely didn't know you couldn't shake stain, not that I've used it. But if I did, and didn't have a gigantic stirrer, I would have shaken it. Good to know.
:)
That video was way cute! The bench too! You're hilarious.
ReplyDeleteOkay Layla, that rocks! You are just WAAAYYY too cute!! Love the bloopers! And Mr.LC is quite the talent, himself! I love it when you post vidoes on here...very entertaining...AND educational, of course!!! :)

ReplyDeleteYou'd be great on HGTV - as informative as you are charming...or visa versa!
ReplyDeleteYou are flippin' hysterical. Love the bench re-do!
ReplyDeleteHad to comment on hubbys elbow star tattoo. It's making my elbow hurt really bad. LOL. I have a couple and there is no way in H*ll I'd have guts to do it there... the one on my foot about killed me when they went over that huge bone on the side. ugh.
ReplyDeleteLayla, this is adorable. You are definately an on-air personality ready for your own show - and better than most!
ReplyDeleteI can't view the video :O( Is there a link to view it?
ReplyDeleteAwesome, helpful videos!!! You are just too darn adorable!
ReplyDeleteBTW: I could listen to acoustic guitar playing allllll day long! Such a lucky girl to have Mr. LC skillz in your life!!!!
Great bench! Now I want to see where you put it in LC :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for your video!
Your bench looks really great. Love the video. You're just too cute. It's also running around 98 degrees here every day. (Northwest Arkansas)
ReplyDeleteThe bench looks great! You really need to have your own decorating show Layla. You're very entertaining :)
ReplyDeleteYou make sanding and staining in the blazing heat with a the occasional bug in the face look so gosh darn cute and fun. You are made for TV.
ReplyDeletePS. I love your guy's little guitar ditty too!
mr lc by the pool playing guitar is priceless...very cute!
ReplyDeleteI love when you show videos! Your smile is infectious! Love that bench, it's going to be living with your dining room table right? If so it's perfect.
ReplyDeleteOne of the three "bootays" required to fit on that gorgeous bench needs a T.V. show of her own...
ReplyDelete...just sayin'..
Elizabeth
This video is great Layla!!! I love seeing all the specifics of what you use. My mom and I keep seeing all of the HGTV Design Star commercials and shaking our heads. What were they thinking??? You are the cream of the crop, girl! Thanks for posting these. Can't wait to go try some of your tips on some of our pieces that need a little paint update. Maybe with s smaller stir stick though. :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your cool 98 degrees!!! 106 here and I am outside painting my kitchen cabinetts. Yes, STILL painting my kitchen cabinets (I took a little break in between sides of the kitchen)!! I would be ever so happy for a cool 98!! You can keep the bees though! XOXO kim
ReplyDeleteHoney write yourself a big fat check cause you are going to be a big star very soon.
ReplyDeleteLove the bench re-do....I live in Germany and these benches (along with their tables) are in every yard and every fest and every beer garden! They are so handy dandy...we own 3 sets!
