Checkers Anyone? at SusieHarris.blogspot.com

Check out my friend Susie's new floor:
While talking on the phone the other night, I suggested she take her stained plywood to the next level by painting a checkerboard pattern on it. Well, in true Susie style, she was slapping down paint within hours of our phone call.
Be prepared to have your breath taken away when you click over to her site. It looks INCREDIBLE, and I'm really considered a similar treatment in our Master Bedroom. As soon as Mr. LC gets home, we're going to start tackling that room once and for all!

  1. Looks great! BTW, curious minds want to know....what ever happened to the bathroom fixup you started this summer? Happy Monday!

  2. Layla, I posted over at Susies but had to tell you that I was thinking how fab her floor would look in checks {I have a thing for checks and am considering it for the kitchen and other rooms} and then I came back this morning to find that she did just that! It looks great! I'm so glad you suggested it!

  3. We did that, too! It was in a friend's house, not our own, but it was a great project to attempt. We did learn that you shouldn't use a wax finish over the top of it ... that you should poly over it for durability. You can see ours here:

  4. I painted my concrete floors in that same checkerboard pattern. Black and white. And I love it.

  7. Layla,

Miss your Design Stars designs. I think what you create is so much "more" than anything I have seen on the show.

Nice touch on Susie's floor, great idea.

  12. I saw this earlier and thought it was delightful and was desperately jealous that I don't have a Layla in my world.

  13. Loved that look and the story of you two talking on the phone about decorating dilemmas reminded me of me and my girlfriend, Brittany. I also completely relate to having to wait till a hubby gets home to work on projects...mine too is always on the road.

  14. I posted to Susie-that I love how this is all over the blogs lately. I did this on my sister-in-laws sunroom about 6 years ago. I loved it then and love it now just as much.

Love those crates-I love wood and metal things with texture and character. I looked at the new LC home and it looks nice.
I see you are ranked number one-way to go Layla. Keep up the good work.
