The Lettered Color

Here's a little video I shot while Kevin mixed up a color for our hallway...
(I just realized I had the Back Light button on the whole time, so sorry it's so bright!)

I'm happy to report that the walls and ceiling are painted as of today! Yahoo!

The trim isn't quite all up yet though, so we'll be back soon with more photos as soon as it's all finished.

This was such an unexpected little renovation, and we've definitely learned a lot over the past few days. For one, Kevin learned that he does not enjoy painting whatsoever. He says it's because he's "not good at it". He reached a breaking point today when he stepped in paint, and at the same time, had paint drip from the ceiling onto his face. He actually had to stop and take a drive to "cool down" after that one. Poor thing. :-)

We also learned that no space is too small or insignificant to overlook.
What was once simply a pass-through area has surprisingly blossomed into an inspired little spot with a personality all its own.
It's made the visual journey from room to room so much more fun too!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend y'all, and if you're tackling a project- have fun with it! If you run into challenges, push through them and keep your eye on the prize because it will be so worth it in the end!

We'll be back with more photos soon,

Layla

  1. Morning Layla!
Bless Kevin's heart for working through all the paint issues and perservering. I had stated just yesterday that I don't enjoy it either and now Kevin has joined the ranks. : )
You two enjoy your weekend and your new hall walls and ceiling.

  2. Oh man, you guys crack me up!!! So refreshing! Why does my husband not think home projects are as fun as Kevin does?! Awesome job, can't wait to see the paint up!

  3. Hey lady! So glad that your project has been such a success. Can't wait to see the finished project!

And I too love Lola B's. I was lucky enough to get to meet Kasey in person this summer...and her house? Simply fab. I mean seriously!!

    Have a great day~

  4. That is so cute!! It's great that Kevin is so involved in the home projects, too! I thought I liked painting, until I helped my parents one weekend then had to wear a wrist brace for 4 weeks. No idea what I did wrong, but something about the repetitive motion just gave me major tendinitis or something! I think what you said about no small space overlooked is so true! Thanks for always being so inspiring!

  5. Aw, poor Kevin. We've had so many moments like that with our own reno ...and you're right, sometimes you just have to step away for a while! Enjoy your day and weekend!

  7. Hey Layla and Kevin!
Thanks for the entertaining videos! I have to say I really liked the part when Kevin broke out into song (when he didn't know if you were recording)!
By the way are you guys Auburn fans?

  8. Fun video! I think we're all becoming LC groupies... Just waiting for the next edition of "The At Home Adventures of Layla and Kevin Create".

I jumped when you jumped!!! The men in my home are always making me jump too.

"life in the fast lane" truer words have never been sung... You guys are definitely there.

A little tip: A scenic artist once told me, if you put a couple drops of bleach in water-based paint, it'll stay fresh and have a longer shelf-life. We always end up with TONS of paint after projects. Also, just because it might come up with some of your viewers, it wouldn't be so much an issue for color sampling, but if you mix un-related paint and use it on the wall or project, the un-related formulas can cause issues such as peeling, cracking and pigment leaching in areas.

Loving following your blog. Now I just need to stop watching your reno and get to ours!!!

    Happy Friday! :)

  13. Paint can tranform a room in an instant and is so gratifying!

I always love what you do and you both deserve a big KUDOS!

My husband whose name is also Kevin despises painting...he gets all grumpy and pouty! Needless to say, we just moved to a 1950's ranch (blah) home and every room, closet, ceiling, barn and outbuilding needs painting!

    Fall Blessings!

  14. have you ever painted with the samples before? i painted with the sample and within 2 months it was peeling off the wall ... did some reading and asking questions to sw and contractors and it's because the paint doesn't have all the correct additives (it's a cheaper version) ... wonder if mixing it with the white will help. curious to know what your experience turns out to be ...

  15. Cannot wait to see the end result. As for samples not being full of all the additives...not true! They have to be for the color to hold true. At any rate mixing it with the white was a good thing. Hurry and show us. FYI I am an artist living and painting in N.C. I know paint! I live it, I breathe it. I am loving your renovation!!!

  17. Just catching up on your hallway transformation and it looks great! (still having trouble with your blog my other computer...on my laptop tonight) Tell Kevin Jeff and I can feel his pain...the guys are putting up the beadboard in our dining room and we have just primed, filled nail holes and caulked..ugh! We signed up to do all of the painting on our new addition and are now regretting it. As we talked about tonight , it will be all worth it when it is done. I look forward to your thoughts on our bedroom~

  18. Oh, and your hubby is so sweet to leave you messages with primer...awwwwww! Have a great weekend Layla and I will send you pics of the completed dining room hopefully next week~

  20. It's like giving birth, isn't it? Each project is a baby. The great part is, after delivering your 'baby', it requires minimal attention...
