Pottery Barn Knock-Off Chandelier Project

Greetings!
Hope you're having an awesome weekend!

And if you're a Mom-
Happy Mother's Day!

We took our Mom's out for lunch today, and we had so much fun hanging out with them.
Love those ladies!

Photobucket

We also continued putting the finishing touches on the dining room- we can finally see the finish line now!
Yessssss!

Here's a short video of a little project I worked on a couple of days ago...

Pretty nifty, eh?!

And I'm sooooper happy to report, the project turned out great- so I'll be back with a post full o' pics of our "new" dining room sometime this week.

In the meantime, I better go fetch some ice.
I tripped on a rolled up area rug about an hour ago, and nearly lost my pinky toe.

Photobucket

I'm not sure if it's how my feet are shaped, or what, but that little guy sure has a mind of it's own.
Stick a rolled up area rug in my path and I'll be in a ball on the floor, writhing in pain, every time!

  3. Hey Layla! I'm DYING to see the finished project in your dining room! We did our kitchen table just like yours and I love, love how it turned out, but I'm completely stumped on what to do with the chairs. We actually painted them this puddy color, which I kinda like, but I'm still curious as heck to see where you're going with your chairs. :)

  7. Hey Limpy! :)
Lovin' what you're doing with the chandelier....not lovin' the fact that your poor little toe has a mind of it's own and is trying to sabatage the rest of your foot. :)
Can't wait to see the finished room and your chandy all hanging up in place. Hope you're havin' fun!

  9. Very nice, and yes it beats the 3 Ben Franklin's that it would've cost at Pottery Barn! Great job guys! :)

  10. super cute lamp...looking forward to see your other creations...sorry about your tootsie...my Mama is always stubbing her toes (even broke one making the bed)...she loves to be barefoot but the dr. told her it is a no-no because she is always ramming her toes! :)

  11. I have that same chandelier and I put cream shades on it as well. I have always felt that it is one of IKEA's best kept secrets - such a good deal and it looks like a lot of much pricier lights out there.

  12. That Ikea chandy is a great find! I have a chandy we bought at Lowes several years back when we switched to ORB fixtures, I just added the PB shades like that. I'd love to know where you bought the jute trim as I have some other areas I could use it on shades.

  14. So, Limpy...are you standing in front of the walls of said DR? Did you tear off the wallboard?? Wonderin' here?

    Great job on the chandy!

  15. Can't wait to see the finished dining room - the chandelier fix up is a great idea. Hope your toe is better now - you should keep some shoes on to keep it in line.....

  16. So Layla...I am very confused. Is the room with the found doorway the dining room? Is that the room you've been working on this week? Please explain. You are giving me anxiety attacks. :) Did you ever finish the bathroom? I need a road map to keep up. :)

  17. Love the look of the chandelier. Be careful. I am just like you... I could trip on anything and break my neck. Glad you had a nice Mother's Day with both your Moms. Love & blessings from NC!

  21. Layla.
It is going to be a beaut!!
Love how you do and redo all the time.
I use to think I had an incurable disease. Now thanks to you and all the other creative bloggers I now know I won't die from it just totally live because of it. Change is a ggod thing, especially once you get it right.
I guess you know when it is right if you can sit back and love the results and not moving it around for at least 2 months. hehe
Can't wait to see the chandelier. geri.

  22. Walmart sells an almost identical jute trim, and I'd bet it's cheaper, for anyone who may want to duplicate your project. I bought some recently for my daughter's horse themed nursery.

  24. NOTHING like a Pottery Barn knock off! Love it Layla girl. :)

I am getting ready to make an offer on an older (ca 1908) home, so I'll be scrounging your archives for good ideas as I work some Sashafication on it! (Of course... IF we get it...)

  25. Ouch - pinky toes have a way of hanging themselves out there, don't they? Last time I wacked my pinky against something (the couch leg...not an object that moves easily) I fell to the floor with my mouth open in a silent scream. Hubby, being the compassionate man that he is, was not able to help me as he was laughing too hard.

Anyways, your chandelier idea looks great and I'm looking forward to seeing what you two have done with your dining room.

    Cheers,

    (the other) Sandra

  26. I love your blog! I have been inspired by so many things. I unfortunatley have not been able to see any of your videos for a while now. : ( I was wondering if you (or anybody who knows) could let me know what video host you use so I can see if I can fix it. I miss seeing your videos!!!! And I can't wait to see this project! Thank you!

  27. Love your idea! One suggestion though... Don't use hot glue. The heat from the light bulbs will re-heat the glue and your trimmings will unstick from the shades. Get fabric glue that doesn't need heat.

I learned this the hard way. I used hot glue on a lampshade, and the trim continuously came unstuck.

  31. What a great idea!! I have a similar chandelier from JC Penney that is looking a little tired. I might have to try the jute trim trick!

  35. Love your project. I'm headed to Lowe's to see if I can get some shades for my chand. Mine looks like yours before the makeover. I bought it a few years back, wanting a simple light fixture, w/o any shades. Now I'd like to dress it up a bit. Thanks for the tutorial. I think I can do this :) Love your blog!

  36. That chandy is going to look great!

I am a friend of Jennifer Grey, and she told me about your blog.
I just posted on my blog how I had a chair recovered with a drop cloth.
Let me just say, I love your drapes. Had no idea, until Jennifer told me about it. If you get a chance, check out my blog.

  45. I'm so sad to say that your previous builder's special flushmount light currently hangs in my foyer. I've tried to ignore how much I dislike it, but you just provided me the inspiration I needed to change it out! Thanks :)
