After a pit stop for groceries at Walmart (and Publix!) in Savannah, we rolled onto Tybee Island around 6:00 Monday night.
The weather was absolutely perfect, and the atmosphere was just as refreshing as I remember it being.
And even though we were some three hundred miles away from our Lettered Cottage, we both felt incredibly "at home".
Tybee has a way of making a person feel that way.
From the friendly stray "island kitties" lounging amongst the shady ferns, to the cheery colorful cottages sprinkled here and there and everywhere, to the clusters of kiddos biking their way from one side of the island to the other- you just can't help but feel comfortable here.
While the painters finish up at the Mess Hall, we're temporarily staying at a cottage called Key Lime Parrot.
It's a sunny little house, (decorated by my friend Jane) located just 2 blocks from the beach.
After we got our groceries and luggage moved into the house on Monday night, we drove over to The Crab Shack and dined bay side, under the stars.
Kevin's not a seafood guy, so we ate barbecue and "smashed taters" instead.
It was delicious!
We sipped on Corona's with lime, and talked 'til we were too tired to talk anymore.
It was a pretty long day, so we made our way back to "The Parrot" and called it a night.
Ahhhhhh.....nothin' like sleeping by the sea.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday, we got to see the side of the Mess Hall we'll be working on in person, for the first time.
Here's some footage we shot of the place while we were there...
And here are a few photos we snapped too...

(Note: No, I don't have a "bun in the oven"- I have a shirt with an empire waistline on!)
We've definitely got our work cut out for us, huh?
We're gonna use a lot of the "stuff" Diane has collected over the years, and our friend Mary Kay Andrews also gave us some killer leads on where to look for great "junk" yesterday too. And Jane's gonna take us shopping at all her favorite local places too- so I'm sure we'll be able to furnish those big empty rooms in no time!
As for the "Name the Cottage" contest I mentioned in my last post, if you'd like to submit a name, simply leave a comment on this post telling us what you think the cottage should be called.
Then, next week, Diane (who owns the cottage) will pick her top five favs out of all the names submitted.
After that, we'll post her five favorites here on our blog, so that everyone can vote for their #1 favorite name out of the five that Diane chooses.
The person who came up with the winning name will win a fabulous prize package courtesy of Mermaid Cottages!
(Note: If someone submits the same name more than once, we'll look to the earliest submission to determine who the winner is.)
Good luck and have a wonderful Wednesday!

Love the cottage. How many times can we enter a name?
ReplyDelete"Poseidon's Getaway"
"Palmer's Love Shack "
ReplyDeleteI don't know why, but the name "The Sunny Side Up Cottage" strikes me, lol.
ReplyDeleteI know you're going to do a beautiful job with this place! I can't wait to see it!
It looks so peaceful and airy.
ReplyDeleteWhispering Winds Cottage
I like a little history...how about Screven Heaven Cottage....assuming that rhymes! (Ft. Screven)
ReplyDeleteI like the name "Summer's Spell".
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the transformation!
Donna
It's so cute! I can't wait to see it all come together =)
ReplyDeletePersonally, I like The Whispering Palm for the name, the place just looks so quiet and peaceful that you'll be able to hear everything, and Palm for "the Palmers" who are decorating masters!
Or how about "The Lettered Getaway" as a little tribute to you and your hubby!
Either would be adorable!
I can't wait to see the finished product!
~Rachael
I can't wait to see what you do with the space. To me, a name like "Merry Time Cottage" would honor its seaside (maritime) location and past!
ReplyDelete"Bella Vita"...beautiful life...that is what a beach house represents to me! Can't wait to see the finished product!! Have fun!!
ReplyDeleteI love a creative challenge and couldn't narrow my list to just one. Here are my favs, the list started out longer!
ReplyDeleteDew Drop Inn
The Baracks
Settle Inn
Sweet Dream-Inn
Georgia On My Mind (this is our baby girl's name)
Shore Delight
Sand Castle
Easy Breezy
Lazy Daze
The Screen Door Cottage
ReplyDeleteSoooo anxious to see the final product, although the wide open spaces are so appealing
ReplyDeleteoh wow, I want to LIVE there! so...the name ...."She Sells Sea Shells cottage" I just think the name would be sooo sweet! Plus, who would forget a cottage beach house with that name?! How fun it would be everytime someone would call and request it by name, haha!
ReplyDelete---She Sells Sea Shells Cottage---
Peach at the Beach
ReplyDeletePeach on the Beach
That house is amazing and it looks in great shape! good luck!!
oh and one more-
ReplyDeleteAquaholic
Wow, it already looks like a gorgeous space -can't wait to see what y'all do with it!
ReplyDelete"Heaven on the Beach"
Hmm.. if I were making a reservation here, I would love for The Blue Breeze Cottage to show up on my credit card statement! It makes me think of the breezes blowing through windows and sheer curtains fluttering into the room while I sat on a wicker bench in white capri pants and a straw hat with a good book and an "island kitty" and watched the waves crash in. I can't wait to see it finished! Where do I go to make a reservation? :)
ReplyDeleteOh, or if the cottage isn't on the water it could be:
ReplyDelete"Heaven by the Beach"
I'd say Windy Whispers or Whispy Winds or something whimiscal like that :-)
ReplyDeleteI suggest "The Galley."
ReplyDeleteAnd here is why:
Because it is part of the Mess Hall I think that it should have some Cafeteria inspired name. And a Galley reminds me of boats and the ocean.
If you are felling more edgy you could go with "Rock Galley" inspired by Kevin's rock'n'roll roots.
I love the photos and can't wait to see what you do there!
ReplyDeleteAnd for names, I like "Palmer's Bliss, or The Blissful Palm" :)
"The Squeaky Door" : )
ReplyDeleteIt already looks so cute, I can't wait to see what you guys do with it!
ReplyDeleteHere are my name ideas:
Just Peachy (a tribute to GA, of course)
Bungalow Bliss
Southern Comfort
Shoot the Breeze
If it were my cottage, I'd name it "Loggerhead Lair". Loggerhead to honor the wonderful sea turtles that I've heard are residents and Lair which means a "hideaway".
ReplyDeleteI love it when people can in some way pay homage to the wildlife we all enjoy, especially in such a beautiful place.
Good luck!
jpogue56@hotmail.com
In honor of the tree, or a really great drink, The Mimosa! I could also like The Saltwater Cottage or Feejee's Saltwater Cottage (for those of you who don't know the story google PT Barnum and mermaid).
ReplyDeleteHow about Layla's Retreat
ReplyDeleteI like "Simply Seamore". And I love the island and the project. It's going to be so fun to watch you recreate.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete"Tybee, Tybee" There's something about that name! ;)Love saying that word. My Idea for the Cottage Name contest are:
ReplyDeletePaper Moon Cottage
The Paper Moon Cottage
Biscuit By The Sea(it was a Mess Hall right?)
Sea Biscuit Cottage
i was thinking something like,
ReplyDelete'inspired living' but that's too simple. I got the impression there are two sides based on you saying the "side we're gonna decorate". So...
*Twobee Inspired*
(To be or not to be...)
Two (cuz' there's two?) bee (an ode to Tybee Island)
Lisa Leyboldt (gasp...i don't have a blog!!)
leyboldt@cox.net
Hmmm I have a few!
ReplyDelete"Worth it's Salt" (Tybee means salt!)
"The Mermaid's Mess Hall"
"Well played, Mermaid"
"Mermaid Upgrade"
"The Oyster's Pearl"
"Mimosa Morning"
"Barbosa's Mimosa" (like Pirates of the Caribbean...ha!)
1. "Just Be"
ReplyDelete2. "Laylafied"
3. "Palmerfied"
Good luck and have fun!!
I've always liked "Shangri-La" as a getaway name. Something a little more beachy might be "The Breezy Bungalow" or further off the beaten path might be something like "Fair Winds" or "Pelican Landing".
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you do! You have such great beachy style :)
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI have 3, is that ok?
ReplyDeleteThe Seaside Slumber Cottage
The Dune Dwelling Cottage
The Beach Bunkhouse
The Mimosa Tree (Cottage)
ReplyDeleteTranquility
or
The Tranquil Cottage
Hi Diane, Layla and Kevin,
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming cottage! My idea would be to name the cottage "Front Porch Cottage" or "The Sweetheart Cottage".
Because the cottage is being designed by two "sweethearts" that are bringing the cottage to "life"!
I can't wait to see the Cottage sparkle!
Elizabeth~Home is Where the Heart is~
I love Tybee and the Crab Shack ... and I think I'd go with ...
ReplyDeleteMy Blue Heaven
I have several :)
ReplyDeleteWhite Lagoon Cottage
Summer Breeze Cottage
Palmer by the Sea Cottage
Serendipity Cottage
Lettered with Love
ReplyDeletePalmer Haven Cottage
ReplyDelete-Desiree
Just some I liked :)
ReplyDelete"Beachy Bliss Bungalow"
"Tropicana Cabana"
"The Quaint Cabana"
"Seaside Charm"
"The Beachy Seashell"
"Coral Cove Cottage"
"The Salty Starfish"
"Seahorse Cove"
"Coral Cabana"
"Sea Glass Cottage" - 'cause I know the soft, muted shades you guys love to use will make that darling place sparkle like washed up beach glass...
ReplyDeleteThe Barefoot & Beachy Cottage :-)
ReplyDeleteAudrey
themcgillclan@yahoo.com
I already cant wait to see how it turns out!
ReplyDeleteHow 'bout these:
Barefoot Bungalow
Summer's Dream
Southern Belle
Palmer's Pearl
The Lemonade Cottage (shout-out to TLC!)
Good luck! :)
"Tybee Tides Cottage"
ReplyDeleteI'll be at HHI next week...I'll give you a wave across the Calibogue Sound. :)
Looks like a fun summer!
ReplyDeleteI might be cheating (hopefully not), but here are a few:
Sweet Magnolia House
White Jasmine Inn
Savannah Breeze
Magnolia Breeze
Screened Inn
I would absolutely love to move in there right away! I had a couple of ideas for the Cottage name.. I hope I'm allowed to submit more than one!
ReplyDeleteThe Barefoot Bungalow
Sun on my Nose
Sand 'tween my Toes (wish we had a pair of cottages to name!)
The Sea Star Shack
The Sandy Palm
The Good Life
Somewhere Beautiful
Best of luck to you- can't wait to see what you do with the place!
Cottage By The Sea
ReplyDeleteI'd name it "Shakespeare's Hut" with the tagline "Tybee or not Tybee... that is never a question!"
ReplyDeleteThis is a play on words from Shakespeare's quote, "to be or not to be, that is the question"
Since Tybee means "Salt" why not use something like "The Salty Breeze"? Can't wait to see the cottage!
ReplyDelete"Serenity"
ReplyDelete'cause can't we all use some?? :-)
The Island Gamble
ReplyDeleteTybee's Treasure
Le Mermaid
The Island Cottage
Hi, Layla! How about "Alphabet Soup"? Since it was the Mess Hall and The Lettered Cottage is decorating it?
ReplyDeleteAlso, you are such an inspiration to me! We're buying a house in IL with a coach house that I plan to decorate in a casual, beachy style (I know there are no beaches close to IL, but I like the style)! I will be blogging about it later this summer, so I'll be sure to remind you to stop by and take a look to see what you've inspired me to do!
Erin
how about "Grace Cottage"?
ReplyDeleteThis is usually the week we are at Tybee. :-( So sorry to miss you! I know exactly where the Mess Hall is and I can't wait to see what you do with it! Huge bonus, future renters with kids, the park is right behind you! Layla and Kevin, you totally have to try to hook up with JCM (oh yeah, he dropped the Cougar :-) if he is there while you are. He is a Hoosier and probably totally down to Earth. Is his beach house pink?
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! Hope it's ok to have a couple of suggestions...
ReplyDeleteMermaid Tavern
Just Beachy
Cares Away Cottage
1. the cafeteria cottage
ReplyDelete2. the stress-less hall
(to go along with the mess hall)
Tons of potential! Can't wait to see it finished.
ReplyDeleteI like the name SandRose Cottage.
Here are my ideas:
ReplyDeleteThe Misty Sea {cottage}
Sea Of Dew {cottage}
Waves of Dew {cottage}
Twinkling Sea Foam {cottage}
Can't wait to see the finished product! Here are a couple of my entries for a name:
ReplyDelete-Shore Thing Cottage {It's a "shore" thing that people will want to stay there!}
-The Palm Side Inn {since there are two sides and you'll be decorating one of them}
jojop99{at}yahoo.com
How about "Calm, Cool and Collected."
ReplyDeleteIt's a calming place to be, and soon to be a very "cool" place to stay, and I am sure it will be full of wonderfully collected pieces!
What a great blank slate. I can't wait to see what y'all do with it.
ReplyDeleteAs for a name...
"The Sassafras Hideaway" - it speaks to the history of Tybee
how exciting I have two names in mind going with the "mess hall" theme : The dinner Bell and Three Square
ReplyDeleteHi! I'll try too!
ReplyDeleteDreamy Retreat
Mythical Nest
Sweet Escape
Sunburst Fun
I think I got it mixed up, I meant "Cool, Calm and Collected." Besides the reason I mentioned above, it's also a Rolling Stones song, which makes it even better!
ReplyDeleteI love the space I know you guys are going to do great things with it! It's a gorgeous cottage.
ReplyDeleteI've had a couple of names rattling around in my head for it...
Briney Breeze
(Let the) Salty Air Inn
The Plover's (or Heron's or Egret's or Cormorant's or Spoonbill's or Osprey's) Nest. The Mess Hall is cozy, which is where the "nest" idea came in, and it could be a great resting place for any seabird... I would have suggested the Stork's Nest, but that might limit who would stay there... :)
Eggshell Cottage (something about the quality of the light in your photos makes me think of light filtered through the thin shell of an egg)
Shutter Island (I'm trying to be clever. Lots of windows!!)
Screened Inn (Now I'm just being mischievous).
Love,
Weezie
Since its a duo of cottages, what if you name that one "Two if By Sea"
ReplyDeleteI suggest "Summer Belle" here's my thinking...
ReplyDeleteYou're in the south so I started by thinking 'Southern Belle'. But that sounded too persnickity. A beach cottage should be calm, cool, and laid back. Yet at the same time the "Belle" is because we all know if Layla's got her hands in it, its gonna be loaded with class!
Can't wait to see the end result!
Tanya
http://percolatingprojects.blogspot.com/
I envy you being able to work at the beach AND doing what you love.
ReplyDeleteHere are a few names bouncing around in my head:
Turtle-view Cottage
Turtle-bee Cottage
Turtle-cove Cottage
Turtle Island Cottage
Can you sense a theme here? :-)
Cannot wait to see the progress of this cottage!
Caspian Cottage
ReplyDeletehi Layla!
ReplyDeleteYou stress your passion for creating spaces that "make your sould smile" and for making a home that inspires...
I think the cottage should be named The Inspired Cottage..
I cannot wait to see what you do with it!
Yay! So glad ya'll arrived and I'm eager to see your junk finds as they're found!!! One thing is for sure...the process and product will be spectacular!
ReplyDeleteOkay...I did a bit of research because I knew so little about Tybee. And as it turns out the French were allured to Tybee because of the Sassafras roots native to the island...considered a miracle cure, they were a hot commodity back in the day :)
So...my toss in the name basket game is...
"Sea Grass N' Sassafras"
...a nod to what's in store for this mess hall under your meticulous eye for beachy design and a tribute to Tybee's past!
How about Welcome Back Cottage? Puns are always fun (Welcome Back Kotter). :) And the name signifies a welcoming retreat that is always glad to see you even if other things/people in your life are getting you down!
ReplyDeleteHannah
Oh my gosh, what a great cottage. How about "Serendipity Mermaid". The definition of serendipity is a propensity for making fortuitous discoveries while looking for something unrelated. The entire space seems to lend itself to that definition. Have fun, you two!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place!! I can't wait to see what you do!
ReplyDeleteHow about "Heaven's Island" as a name.
That place is beautiful even without furniture!
ReplyDeleteI saw a headboard once made out of starfish. It was really tall from bed to ceiling and covered in white starfish! SO pretty! If I can find the link I'll send it to you for inspiration! :)
In the Palm of Her Hand Cottage.
ReplyDeleteIt's a play on y'alls name, the idea of being in the palm of a hand creates a feeling of being cozy and protected (like a good cottage makes you feel) you will be using your hands to do so much hard and creative work . . .etc.:-)
By the way, I have never commented before but I have been reading and reading and admiring and admiring for some time.
"The Liberty Locker."
ReplyDeleteInspired by The Mess Hall name and Naval terms.
Liberty as in free time away from work, I liked it better than Leave which means vacation.
And Locker as in where you put your stuff.
Thanks and I hope you have a great time with the redo. Can't wait to see the finished product!
Kevin and Layla,
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of this...
"c'est la vie" Cottage
( thats life)
Julie in Holland........ Good luck you two!.......cant wait to see it finished......
I LOVE your site and everything you do! I love that you make everything so open and bright! My submissions for the contest are:
ReplyDelete1. the Coconut Chalet; and
2. the Blueberry Bungalow (I looked up what crops are grown in Georgia :)); and just for fun
3. the Canary Seaboard.
Thanks for a fun contest!
Ooh ... thought of a few more... in addition to the "My Blue Heaven" I suggested above:
ReplyDeleteSummer Wind
Summer Wind Cottage
Belle Haven
xoxo,
Stephanie @ La Dolce Vita.
My favorite:
ReplyDeleteSix-Door Cottage
Other ideas:
Mimosa Tree Cottage
Cedarwood Cottage
Courtyard Cottage
Mellencamp Cottage :)
Amy
I have another thought-
ReplyDeleteSticking to the Mess Hall theme, what about:
A Serving of Sea (like a serving of food from the mess hall)
or
The Sun of the Day (like Soup of the day)
Soooo... I would say, "Dog Days of Summer" since it is a vacation rental and Diane has those cute pups!
ReplyDeleteOr Beachy Keen because you can't go wrong with a name that has beach in it.
I'm going to go with:
ReplyDelete-Sunshine Cottage
-The Sunshine Cottage (since there is so much natural sunlight with all those gorgeous windows)
-The Peach Retreat
-Crab Cove
-Starfish Cottage
-Starfish Inn
-The Sand Dollar
Love the place....can't wait to see what you do with it! By the way, Layla...I have a total yellow obsession, too!
Hugs, Gail
the salty palm . . .
ReplyDeletei think it combines y'all, the island, and the mess hall all in one ;)
I am so excited. Can't wait to see what you do. Thanks for the great pictures and video. It was like I was walking the rooms with you. Beautiful island...a dream come true for someone.
ReplyDeleteBeth from Texas
The Sandy Toes Cottage
ReplyDeleteThe Sun Breeze Cottage
The Hammock Cottage
The Kickin' Back Cottage
SFS Cottage (Sun, Fun & Surf)
Since "Tybee" means Salt...
The Salt Cottage
Tybee Soleil (Salt Sun) Cottage
The Sandy Toes Cottage
ReplyDeleteThe Sun Breeze Cottage
The Hammock Cottage
The Kickin' Back Cottage
SFS Cottage (Sun, Fun & Surf)
Since "Tybee" means Salt...
The Salt Cottage
Tybee Soleil (Salt Sun) Cottage
This is going to be a treat!
ReplyDeleteAs for the name, why not just call it the Mess Hall, or Mess Hall Cottage? That's what the locals will do anyway!
Using The Mess Hall as inspiration...
ReplyDeleteThe Gracious Galley
How about "Mistique Magic". The "mist"from the nearness of the ocean and the "tique" from the "stuff" that you guys will use to decorate it. Yes, I know it won't be technically antique stuff but much of it will have that look. The "magic" will be having such a great place to escape to.
ReplyDeleteHere are mine:
ReplyDeleteMimosa Manor
Pink Mimosa Cottage
I can't WAIT to see the progress you make on this! It is a beautiful, empty space! thanks for taking us on the tour & NO...you do not look pregnant!
ReplyDeleteAfter discovering brick in the closet, I think something like
Brick Beach Cottage would be cute.
With ALL of those windows, it would be fun to have a name that spoke LIGHT & SUN!!!
Since someone said Tybee means salt you could call it "Salty Sunshine"
How about "Cottage 1-4-3 "??
Love the cottage..and the potential...my wheels are spinning!! I think it feels like "The White Cove". millironzb@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteOkay, I thought of a couple more:
ReplyDeleteMimosa Memories Cottage by the Sea
Moonlight and Mimosas Bungalow
And yes, I want the Mimosa tree in the front incorporated into the name. Can you tell?
Simple Summer Surrender
ReplyDeleteHow about
ReplyDelete"GALLEY'S SEASIDE"
or
"GALLEY COAST HOUSE"
I like Galley since it is the name of the "mess hall" on a ship. Kinda ties into the whole Ocean, Mermaid, Tybee Island thing.
Can't wait to watch the progress unfold!
rara855 @ comcast dot net
I submit either "Honeycomb Cottage" (based on the tile in the bathroom) or "Three Breezes" (based on the three doors that open onto the porch). Whatever it's called, I'm looking forward to watching you guys unroll the magic!
ReplyDeleteHere are two of my favorites:
ReplyDeleteSalty Skies Inn
Island Grass Hideaway
April
How about "Settle Inn"
ReplyDeleteOkay, I have to put in my ideas on this one.
ReplyDelete1. The Salty American......
salty for Tybee and the fact that it used to be a place to eat meals and american for what the building represented, a piece of american history.
2. Seasoned Bliss.........
again seasoned for the building being a former place for eating and bliss, well, that doesn't need much explaining. To be there for even a day would be bliss. A beautiful cottage and a beautiful island. What more do you need?
Well, maybe sitting on that porch with a glass of sweet ice tea and a breeze or an "island kitty" nap in a hammock, sigh!
Can't wait to see how it turns out, I know it will be awesome!
Blessings,
Lisa
Such a super fun giveaway!
ReplyDeleteHere are my submissions:
~ Blessed "Mess"
~ Brise Blanc(French for White Breeze)

ReplyDeleteI'm going with
Seashells and Sunshine or

"The Lettered Lair"
ReplyDeleteSince it is next to the mess hall and Tybee means salt... you know every mess hall has to have a salt shaker...
ReplyDeleteThe Salt Shaker Cottage
or
The Salt & Palmer Cottage
It looks beautiful! And I can't wait to see what you do with that blank slate!
Just a additional thought....you could name each room in the house with something that rings back to The Lettered Cottage. Just a little hommage to the decorators, Kevin and Layla.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Lisa

ReplyDelete**SALT MARSH INN**
**SALTY MEYER or THE SALTY MEYER**
**BAREFOOT BUNGALOW**
**TURTLE TIME COTTAGE**
**DOG DAYS INN**
I can't wait to see it when it's all finished! :)
I googled MERMAID & this definition popped up:
ReplyDeleteA fabled marine creature, typically represented as having the upper part like that of a woman, and the lower like a fish; a sea nymph, sea woman, or woman fish.
So how about the:
"The Fabled Cottage"
Sun Spark Cottage
ReplyDeleteor
The Sun Shack
Oooohhh....I LOVE all the beautiful light in the cottage so how about:
ReplyDelete"SHINING LIGHT COTTAGE"
or
"Cottage de la Lumiere" - cottage of light
or even just "La Lumiere"
How about "Whispering Sands"?
ReplyDeleteSticking with a foody name, I am thinking
ReplyDeleteVanilla Bean Cream
or
Marshmallow Moon Pie
The white bright walls and the ocean surroundings. Who doesn't want a moon pie on vacation or vanilla cream yummo!!
Sticking with a foody name, I am thinking
ReplyDeleteVanilla Bean Cream
or
Marshmallow Moon Pie
The white bright walls and the ocean surroundings. Who doesn't want a moon pie on vacation or vanilla cream yummo!!
"Sweet Serenity" or it could be just "Serene Cottage". That is my 2 bits. I dide not read any of the other ones first. I hope you like them.
ReplyDeleteHow about "Beachy Keen" (Cottage or Cove)?
ReplyDeleteSimilar to the saying peachy keen :)
what a beautiful place!! its fab before you even start . :)
ReplyDeletehmmmm..... names???
i went back and looked at all the pics again for some ideas.
'sea grass cottage' ( love the pic of the grass leading to the beach)
'white door cottage'( hence, all the white doors)
'av havet' - by the ocean
and my very favorite.......
'belle vie' - splendid life
To pay tribute to The Lettered Cottage, I would call it:
ReplyDeleteThe Layla Cottage (TLC)
or
The Palmer Cottage
Can't wait to continue following your transformation of this space. It is already beautiful!
I like:
ReplyDelete"Sweet Salt Cottage"
as tybee is the native Euchee word for salt it basically translates to "Sweet Tybee Cottage".
I also like:
"The White (or Pure) Salt Cottage"
"Milk & Honey House" as a reference to the Mess Hall where this was a staple.
"Los Bajos Belle" which isn't as poetic as the other's though Los Bajos was the original name given to Tybee by the Spanish in 1520.
"Dinner Bell Cottage (or Galley)" again as a reference to the Mess Hall.
Kristine
(sorry if it's cheeky to enter multiple names!) :-)
WOW! SO many great names have already been suggested! I'm throwing in:
ReplyDelete-Beachy Keen
and
-Tybee or Not Tybee
The Junk Shack or Junk Shack. I think it'd be cute to have The Mess Hall right by The Junk Shack.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteRest Inn or Relax Inn
ReplyDeleteHow about "The Sandy Starfish"
ReplyDeleteor "The Sand Dollar Cottage" (or Inn)

ReplyDeleteMy choice is.. Treasure Cove
Hope you guys have a Beautiful weekend!
~ Teresa
Sorry I keep posting names, but I keep thinking of them!
ReplyDelete-Tin Roof Rusted
(This is shouted at the end of 'Love Shack.' I imagine people thinking the song is referencing the cottage, and not the other way around! ;-)
-Tin Star Inn, or just (The) Tin Star
-Sea Sky Cottage

Hi,

What about Passing Wind? KIDDING
ReplyDeleteOk, here are mine...
Deja View
Allswell
Sea Salt Chalet
Bon Temps Rouler (good times roll)
Bienvenu
What about Cottage De Sel? Tybee is "salt" in the Euchee Indian tongue. De sel means salt in French.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to visit!!
Ok the first thing I thought of since its Mermaid Cottages was the name of the girl in one of my favorite Tom Hanks film where Daryl Hannah played "Madison" the Mermaid he fell in love with the film was called Splash!...And being this place just makes you fall in love with it like he did the mermaid in Splash.....I say "Madisons Place"....There will for sure be a story behind it! LOL!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all~ Oh.My. What a beautiful cottage! I can't get over the beautiful bright sky, and that gorgeous blue on the porch ceiling (although you said that it's being painted and I hope the blue is the new color). So I am going to say
ReplyDelete"Blue Skies".
Have fun, you two! What wonderful memories you will have.
I can't wait to see all the decorating ideas. I would love to check out Tybee Island it reminds me of Cape Hatteras and Ocracoke which I've been visiting for over 20 years now. I look at your pics and it sends me there. As for some cottage names, I came up with these:

Sand and Sea cottage
Serendipity

ReplyDeleteA former Navy girl myself, I had to think of something with a military connection. How about "Reveille Can Wait" ? I think it inspires one to sleep in and relax in a room with the sea air drifting through breezy curtains.
Or how about "Beaches and Cream"
How about State of Grace Cottage for the quote you included at the top of this post.

a fathom is now a nautical unit of length equal to six feet, it was once defined by an act of Parliament as "the length of a man's arms around the object of his affections." The word derives from the Old English Faethm, which means "embracing arms."

How 'bout the "Lovely Naiad." To go with the Mermaid Cottage theme. A naiad is a mythical beautiful Mermaid.
ReplyDeletethe first thing i thought immediately when i saw the ceiling of the front porch was "blue skies". i know it's pretty trite, but it's simple, clean, and connotes a nice open feeling. i also like "azure abode" for the blue skies and blue sea! can't wait to hear what it is!
ReplyDeletehow about "CASABLANCA"(white house)everything is so white and crisp.
ReplyDeletesilvia.
OH! I love it already! Makes me miss Tybee even more...
ReplyDeleteI happen to know the Tybee Lighthouse is not even a quarter of a mile away, so my entry is:
"Lighthouse Landing"
There are a lot of great entries! I can't wait to see the result...of both the decorating and the contest!
Since the other side is inspired by a common name for a military kitchen (Mess Hall A), I suggest naming the other side "The Ship's Galley of simply "The Galley."
ReplyDeleteOr, a nod to your Mom with "The Lettered Olive?"
ReplyDeleteJourney's End
ReplyDeleteThis is a family project:
ReplyDeleteSo far my 9 year old son suggests:

ReplyDelete"Spirit by the Sea" or
"Salty Serenity"
What lovely pictures! One of these days I must see Tybee Island. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry if I'm double posting my name idea, my computer is giving me fits. ;-)
Anywho, I thought "Sea-Breeze Cabana" could fit it perfectly, especially if some fun colored wicker rocking chairs were on that front porch (with PB cabana stripe pillows). Can't wait to see what you have planned for it!
