Sensational Stuff To Sort Through

Hello!

And if you submitted a name to the "Name the Cottage" contest-
THANK YOU!

We're having a ball reading through them all!

Diane is narrowing down her favorites (she likes so many, she's decided to give each one of the bedrooms a name too, so there will be four winners now instead of just one!)

Photobucket

Yesterday, our day started with breakfast at the Sugar Shack...

Then we went over to the Mess Hall to sort through all the great "stuff" Diane left for us...

The living room is literally FILLED with tons of Diane's fab finds, so we'll continue to sift our way through it all when we get over there today.

Here are a few shots of some of our most favorite things...

In addition to using all Diane's killer "stuff", some of our other plans for the place include cladding the focal wall in the living room with wood planks, creating a wall full of words in the master bedroom, and hanging a giant wood seahorse on the wall middle bath.

We're planning to host an Open House "our side" of the Mess Hall on Saturday, June 26th, so swing by if you'd like to check out the new look in person!
(More details about the shindig coming soon.)

Lots of work to do in there in the meantime though, so I better skidaddle!

PS-

We're also hoping to shoot some photos of Diane's house, "Mermaid Manor", while we're here too...

Photobucket

The lovely and talented Miss Jane Coslick played a part in the design, and it was even featured in the 2009 issue of Southern Living magazine!

Here's a sneak peek at a few shots of the inside...

  1. Speaking of Mermaid Blue....have you seen (and possibly fallen in love with) the Flamenco Shower Curtain from Anthropologie? You've kind of got to love ruffles....and it's a little pricey....but I bet you could recreate something like it!

  2. That breakfast bar is so adorable! Good luck with your project-can't wait to see what you do!

  3. Layla,

You've got plenty of Diane's fabulous finds to use as a jumping point. I love the she;f with the bead board backing. Diane's breakfast bar is beautiful -- the big chunky corbel, the clapboard, the seat covers -- perfection!

  12. Okay..we were at Tybee Island in February....and I swear that house above was on the street near the home we stayed in...

we were in a house..literally right on the beach...is this house above across the street from a row of houses right on the beach?

  14. I hope it's not too late. I thought of this the other day. I was thinking of what I would name a cottage in a beautiful place and this came to mind. "Bring it on", adn "Living the life", Blessed at the
Beach". I would so love to go there someday. We have 6 grandkids that have never all been together at the same times. This is my dream to go somewhere all together. Thanks.

  22. Hey Layla-
I was thinking about you when I was reading my latest BH&G magazine and there was a Tybee Island cottage featured in the magazine (I think it's the June issue). The cottage is super colorful and absolutely adorable. The lady who owns it is a writer. Anyway, I just thought I'd let you know in case you hadn't seen it yet. She has some adorable flea market finds she decorated with and the whole place is just dripping with charm!
Can't wait to see your place all done!

  25. Wareagle! I just adore you and Kevin and your blog. I hope you don't think this is the stupidest comment ever, but I could not help but notice in your video that you and I have the exact same bottom teeth. I have one that sticks up just a tad too! Don't get a complex, you are gorgeous! It is just funny that I noticed it, probably only bc I have one too. I always notice it on myself when I watch back videos! Can't wait to see how the cottage turns out!

  34. I LOVE the Aqua and Red color combo! I'm obsessed with it recently, so all that Aqua with those red stripped curtains you showed was just amazing! I never comment on anyones blog....ever...but Red and Aqua inspired me to do so. Have fun, I know the home formerly known as "mess hall B" will be amazing once you're done!

  35. Honestly, I don't know why you wouldn't call it "The Lettered Cottage"? I think that would suit it perfect, and it's yours!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Elisabeth - the article you;re talking about in BH&G is about Mary Kay Andrews beach home The Breeze Inn. And Diane (of Mermaid Cottages) manages the house and it's available to rent. Go to www.mermaidcottages.com and look for Breeze Inn.

    It's even better in person!
