My search led me to Sharon at Interior Image, who was kind enough to send me a link to this darling little bench she made:
It looks great in this bedroom:
I love the way its four posts relate to the bubbly candlesticks on the table next to it.
And the colorful, little pillow in the middle of the seat works in perfectly as an extension of the art collection on the wall above.
Sharon's creativity for constructing Headboard Benches didn't stop there.
She also made one out of this one:
Wonder if she whistled while she worked? :-)
The finished product is gorgeous!
The detail on this headboard looks so "cottage-on-a-tulip-farm-in-Holland" to me, which totally appeals to my heritage and my love for all things Dutch...
I also had the pleasure of meeting Miss Jean Martha at Renovation Therapy who blogged about this PHENOMENAL headboard she plans on turning into a bench in the near future:
I CAN'T WAIT to see how this one turns out! It's one of the prettiest beds I've ever seen, and would have snapped it up in an instant too.
Lastly, Sharon S. posted this incredible Headboard/Dining Chair "Bench-For-Two" on Craftster.org :
Does this bench ROCK or what?!
The color of the seat, and multi-colored wood "skirt" on the front are SO pretty.
If I was any more inspired, I'd burst! :-)
Layla...I agree! Sharon is very talented. Her designs are always a joy to see. She gives great sewing tips too.
ReplyDeleteLove the one with the dark finish!
ReplyDeleteThey are all stunning!
ReplyDeleteI love that headboard/footboard so much that I'm just paralyzed about cutting into it and making the bench! LOL
ReplyDeleteSharon lives near me, one day I will rope her into helping me.
Thanks for the research Layla! I need to get moving on my bench now. I have everything to make it with, just never the time. I can't decide whether to sink foam down in a box style seat or just to wrap a solid piece of wood in foam and batting, like a dining chair. I will need to go find some pretty front legs. I want some salvaged pieces, so I am on the hunt! Love the post, I could have a handmade bench in every room!

Your new picture looks great - you're just beautiful - what's the word on the design show? I am so so so hoping that you will get in! I just know you could win.

Good morning, Layla! Thanks for the mention! Headboard benches are FUN! I hope everyone who visits today runs out to the nearest flea market or garage sale to snap up a bed of their own! If you can use a screw-gun, you can make a bench! :)
ReplyDeleteLOve them! I actually have my mothers childhood bed that I have planned to make into a bench. I have had it for years....but cannot find someone to contruct it for me. I need to start doing some serious shopping for someone who can build.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I'm feeling inspired to give it a shot.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the links!

First-I am new and happy follower of your blog...LOVE everything you post :-) The last pictured bench in this post just made my day! I actually purchased four chairs at a garage sale last summer for my diningroom table, and they are the same design as as the chairs pictures...one broke (due to being so old) and I saved it and have been trying to find something I could do with it...I now have discovered what I will make-this bench-or something like it anyways-how very cool. Thank you :-)-Shannon
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the artistic arrangement of frames in the bedroom.
ReplyDeleteI first saw this idea on HGTV, but they used parts of a crib! I love the pics you've posted and will remember this idea, Layla! You are so unique and Design Star will truly be missing an asset if they don't give you a chance!!
ReplyDeleteLayla you gave me the best idea. today i was out thrifting and saw a darling pink headboard - i loved it and didn't know what i could use it for..........now i know. i am going back tomorrow to buy it and i am going to make a bench for my daughters room........thanks for the wonderful ideas.........

Wow, love all of them! Thanks for sharing! Andrea
ReplyDeleteI love repurposing old furniture. My husband and I are totally DIY and found some antique doors that we turned sideways, framed and put crown molding on to make the perfect bed frame for our cal king. Only cost us $189 to make our bed with headboard AND footboard. So fun thinking of new ways to use old things :)
