Ready, Set, Prime!

Thanks so much for all the nice comments you've left us over the past couple of days!
We get together for breakfast, lunch and supper and take turns reading through them while we dine. Those moments are highlights of our day and we sure do appreciate your support and motivation! :-)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mr.LC finished trimming out the transom window this morning. Then he pulled out nails and cleaned the walls in the hallway this afternoon.
Here's a 360 degree view of it...

And the award for the "Blurriest Picture Of The Year" goes to...........

(What? You never heard of the B-POTY's?) ;-)

We are so lovin' our handsome new transom!

We definitely need one over the office door on the right too.

(Oh, and our ceilings are nine feet tall for those of you who asked) :-)

Here is where the stove used to be....

It will now be home to our linen press.

Shortly after he started priming, Kevin realized that he needed to run to the store for some Liquid Nails. While he was gone, I wandered out into the hall to check out what he had done so far.

I found this...(sigh)

<3 (-:

(tip your head to the right- that's a little smiley face with a heart under it)

I'm a huge fan of leaving notes for your loved ones to find, but it always catches me by surprise when others do it for me. He made my day with his precious primed profession!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's now ten o'clock at night. Everything is still. I can hear our cat snoring underneath my chair.
I'm looking at the hallway.
It's completely primed now, and eagerly awaiting a coat of pretty paint.
I cannot wait to see what it's going to look like this time tomorrow night!

Layla

Awwwww! SO sweet. That rivals my husband's little notes to me...

I know it'll look great when you are done, but I was enjoying the contrast of the wood color against the whiteness of the rooms beyond!

Your house is so Pottery Barn!

Layla I cant wait to see it painted! How fun to find such a treasure hiding behind that drywall. Love the note too. I have hidden one in the pantry we closed off. One day hubs will open it up to the main hall closet and discover it.

Dan is good at leaving love notes for me too. How lucky we girls are!

PS- I'm stunned, as always. What a beautiful home!

{What a sweet "note" Kevin left for you!}

I love the "love note". Very, very sweet. Today I made a pillow for our bed inspired by the ones you guys have on the bench in the kitchen. Somehow, yours are much prettier...maybe mine needs a cute button on it?

Can't wait to see the linen press in the hall :)

Awww! How cute! Wanna trade hubby's for a while? I need some home projects done and mine never seems to have the time to do them, nevermind with little love notes attached!

People Who Know Me Would Say: said...

It's already awesome, but painting it will make it eminate the crazy, cottage-y charm you both have running through your veins.

(The link to the linen press was a bust. The page 'didn't exist'.)

When you finish with the cottage, will you guys live in it for a while and enjoy it's diamond self? Or will you find another piece of coal and begin that one's transformation? Please, please consider addressing this in one of your blog posts. I'm not the only one who wants to know.... ;)

Lovely!

That note is so sweet!

Now I wish I had taller ceilings. I don't think transoms are gonna happen with an 8ft ceiling.

I love the number 1-4-3. My parents do the same thing. (They'll be celebrating their 50th in July) I found the numbers 6 8 9 many years ago in a clearance bin for pennies and have placed them over the door in our bedroom. (like a hotel number). They have changed colors as we've changed houses. What does it stand for you ask? we were married June(6) of 1989. It was the best I could do w/the numbers they had. I love having something like that that only he and I know...
Can't wait to see how your project unfolds!

Miss Obara said...

P.S. That photo of the 1-4-3...are you going to frame it? It would look cute hanging in that hallway!

I just wanted to write and say how much I can't wait to see the finished project! Also, I know want an older home so I can renovate it just like you!

Love the transom.

So, I must ask--did you ever, for a moment, consider leaving the wooden boards bare? My husband and I would have done that if we'd been able, but there was a lot of damage to be replaced and then it didn't match.

i love "visiting" the lettered cottage every day! i must say my favorite part is the way you and mr lc interact with one another. when i watch your videos together i smile the whole way thru and am thankful that true love still exists. i loved, loved, loved the video that you set to music! it was fabulous!!! thank you for all the inspiration, i love every project you do and the two of you are just adorable!! oh and if i lived closer i would have loved to give flea market a home...i think he's right where he belongs though!

Oh how I can't wait to see the finished product. I am good at envisioning though...so I'm truly LOVE'IN it!! :)

Love the striped walls in that room and that long pillow!! Very cool. Transom windows are wonderful. You are lucky you have a handy husband. What a blessing...seriously:)

Wow! I am just loving seeing the work you guys have done on this project. After your post yesterday I literally walked around my entire house looking for a spot to put a transom. Sadly I realized my ceilings aren't high enough and I don't have anywhere :(
I will continue to live vicariously through yours though! So excited to see how it's going to turn out!
are you going to put glass in it? Do you have to get that custom ordered?

It does look fabulous. PS - Aren't hubbys the best?!

Hey there!

Just wanted to pop in and say thank you to everyone for leaving such nice comments. You sure know how to make a guy feel good!

To answer the question about whether or not we ever thought about leaving the planks unpainted- Yes! We've actually had a couple of long conversations about what would be the best thing to do. But the lack of natural light that our hallway gets determined our final decision. Because there are no windows, we decided to paint the walls and the ceiling to brighten up the space!

Thank you for continually being so supportive of our crazy efforts. You guys are truly a blessing in our lives!

Kevin

I love the transom window, I think I need some of those boogers.
Idea: You should blow up the picture you took of 1 4 3 on the wall to a 10 x 13, frame it and put it on 'that' wall. Fun!
You guys are doing great, it will feel so good when you have it done, I know the process can be fulfilling as well.

Cool transoms. Lucky you, to have 9 foot ceilings!

AND...I WANT/NEED/AM IN LOVE with that kitchen you posted!!!!

Thanks for sharing....

Love your site, Layla (and Kevin)! I have given ideas from your home to my friends and always recommend your site for those who need inspiration. I have recently jumped on the Blogging bandwagon and hope to become more proficient as time allows. Thank you for sharing all of the details....love it all ( and, quite frankly, am a little jealous of all the old house personality;)

I love that he is willing and able to jump in and work on these projects. Could you imagine if you were doing all this by yourself?? Not that you can't, you are completely able, but it's so much better when someone can help. And even better when they leave you love notes. It looks fantastic! Can't wait to see the reveal!

I just found your site and LOVE what you do. I've already done the checkerboard floor you featured a while ago. Anyway I normally don't comment, but I had to on this one. My dad has always done the 1-4-3 thing for my mom. Once he mowed it in the grass. Its fun to see someone else does it too.

That sweet, short message will be in your memory forever.
More so than flowers on special days, Chrismas gifts, birthday presents and even diamond, or gem surprises.
The small unexpected things last forever and are keepsakes of the heart.
LOVE the walls and transome door.geri.

What a difference! You've taken a very wierd hallway with too many doors in it and make it special, just by exposing some natural charm of your home. It's so fun to see the process.

I love your hallway! It has such character now. I have some of the same type paneling in my home and I think it's just wonderful. Mine is heart pine and the termites hate it. And the sweet message your husband left...there's needs to be more like him!
