We get together for breakfast, lunch and supper and take turns reading through them while we dine. Those moments are highlights of our day and we sure do appreciate your support and motivation! :-)

Mr.LC finished trimming out the transom window this morning. Then he pulled out nails and cleaned the walls in the hallway this afternoon.
Here's a 360 degree view of it...
And the award for the "Blurriest Picture Of The Year" goes to...........
(What? You never heard of the B-POTY's?) ;-)
We are so lovin' our handsome new transom!
We definitely need one over the office door on the right too.
(Oh, and our ceilings are nine feet tall for those of you who asked) :-)
Here is where the stove used to be....
It will now be home to our linen press.
Shortly after he started priming, Kevin realized that he needed to run to the store for some Liquid Nails. While he was gone, I wandered out into the hall to check out what he had done so far.
I found this...(sigh)
<3 (-:
(tip your head to the right- that's a little smiley face with a heart under it)
I'm a huge fan of leaving notes for your loved ones to find, but it always catches me by surprise when others do it for me. He made my day with his precious primed profession!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's now ten o'clock at night. Everything is still. I can hear our cat snoring underneath my chair.
I'm looking at the hallway.
It's completely primed now, and eagerly awaiting a coat of pretty paint.
I cannot wait to see what it's going to look like this time tomorrow night!

what a fabulous idea - you two are such go getters, you make me tired! haha. Serously, you are doing such a great job, and the painted love note is just too, too sweet. Awww.

Awwwww! SO sweet. That rivals my husband's little notes to me...
I know it'll look great when you are done, but I was enjoying the contrast of the wood color against the whiteness of the rooms beyond!
Your house is so Pottery Barn!

Layla I cant wait to see it painted! How fun to find such a treasure hiding behind that drywall. Love the note too. I have hidden one in the pantry we closed off. One day hubs will open it up to the main hall closet and discover it.
Dan is good at leaving love notes for me too. How lucky we girls are!
PS- I'm stunned, as always. What a beautiful home!
Hi! I am presenting you with an award. Check out my blog for more details and thanks on being so inspirational!
I love it already and it's only partially primed! I'm going to swoon when I see it all painted out, I'm sure!
{What a sweet "note" Kevin left for you!}
I love following your blog!
I've posted a design dilemma question on my blog to get my readers' thoughts. I'd love to hear your ideas!

So lovely.
I love it it looks so beautiful already!
and awwww.. his note is too cute. you guys are so very adorable together.
it looks great already! Kevins note is just the sweetest! Iris
I love the "love note". Very, very sweet. Today I made a pillow for our bed inspired by the ones you guys have on the bench in the kitchen. Somehow, yours are much prettier...maybe mine needs a cute button on it?
Can't wait to see the linen press in the hall :)
Awww! How cute! Wanna trade hubby's for a while? I need some home projects done and mine never seems to have the time to do them, nevermind with little love notes attached!
It's already awesome, but painting it will make it eminate the crazy, cottage-y charm you both have running through your veins.
(The link to the linen press was a bust. The page 'didn't exist'.)
When you finish with the cottage, will you guys live in it for a while and enjoy it's diamond self? Or will you find another piece of coal and begin that one's transformation? Please, please consider addressing this in one of your blog posts. I'm not the only one who wants to know.... ;)
Lovely!
That note is so sweet!
Now I wish I had taller ceilings. I don't think transoms are gonna happen with an 8ft ceiling.
Awwwww! Y'all are too darn cute. Always stay that way & never let yourselves grow apart.
I am going to come back here everytime I feel I cannot accomplish something, you know?
Layla, You are blessed with such a sweet sweet hubby! My hubby did the same.. above the entrance to our kitchen.. He wrote.. I Love Teresa in paint.. I still haven't painted over it! Brings a smile to me & everyone that see's it...
Love that transom.. & that gorgeous surprise behind your drywall! Everything you both do is beautiful!!
Blessings ~ Teresa
I love the number 1-4-3. My parents do the same thing. (They'll be celebrating their 50th in July) I found the numbers 6 8 9 many years ago in a clearance bin for pennies and have placed them over the door in our bedroom. (like a hotel number). They have changed colors as we've changed houses. What does it stand for you ask? we were married June(6) of 1989. It was the best I could do w/the numbers they had. I love having something like that that only he and I know...
Can't wait to see how your project unfolds!
P.S. That photo of the 1-4-3...are you going to frame it? It would look cute hanging in that hallway!
I just wanted to write and say how much I can't wait to see the finished project! Also, I know want an older home so I can renovate it just like you!
You and your husband are amazing! Just when I think your home couldn't get any better, you come up with a way to add another beautiful detail.
Love the transom.
Thank you so much for the shout out!

PLEASE send me some of your energy. I can't even get the laundry folded.
Have a great day! -Trish
*sigh*
Beautiful.
And sweet.
Lucky you!
I am loving this transformation process. The transom is a stroke of genius!
Wow the hall looks amazing already! Cant wait to see it painted. I love the chances you take in your home and how great they always turn out.
The note is extra cute.
Loving all the pics of the progress, but the "1 4 3" just made me smile. You got a keeper there Layla.
That man is too good to be true! Lucky you!! Loving the hall and cannot wait for more pictures.
Oh, the transom idea is definitely a winner. Love it! And the walls....look spectacular before paint. What a sweet little surprise to find those babies. Love your blog, enjoy following along.

The hallway is going to be perfection when it is done!
(And what a sweet, sweet primed love note - that hubby of yours is a keeper!)
So, I must ask--did you ever, for a moment, consider leaving the wooden boards bare? My husband and I would have done that if we'd been able, but there was a lot of damage to be replaced and then it didn't match.
i love "visiting" the lettered cottage every day! i must say my favorite part is the way you and mr lc interact with one another. when i watch your videos together i smile the whole way thru and am thankful that true love still exists. i loved, loved, loved the video that you set to music! it was fabulous!!! thank you for all the inspiration, i love every project you do and the two of you are just adorable!! oh and if i lived closer i would have loved to give flea market a home...i think he's right where he belongs though!
Oh how I can't wait to see the finished product. I am good at envisioning though...so I'm truly LOVE'IN it!! :)
And I ADORE Mr.LC's affection for his sweet(and BEAUTIFUL)wife!...
"1-4-3" on the wall?!!?... BE STILL MY HEART!!! <3 (;
Blessings and Hugs,
~Tanya
I knew the 143 meant something but I had to go back and be reminded.
So so sweet
Alison
i love that transom window. and seriously what a sweetheart!
Love the striped walls in that room and that long pillow!! Very cool. Transom windows are wonderful. You are lucky you have a handy husband. What a blessing...seriously:)
Wow! I am just loving seeing the work you guys have done on this project. After your post yesterday I literally walked around my entire house looking for a spot to put a transom. Sadly I realized my ceilings aren't high enough and I don't have anywhere :(
I will continue to live vicariously through yours though! So excited to see how it's going to turn out!
are you going to put glass in it? Do you have to get that custom ordered?
It does look fabulous. PS - Aren't hubbys the best?!
Hey there!
Just wanted to pop in and say thank you to everyone for leaving such nice comments. You sure know how to make a guy feel good!
To answer the question about whether or not we ever thought about leaving the planks unpainted- Yes! We've actually had a couple of long conversations about what would be the best thing to do. But the lack of natural light that our hallway gets determined our final decision. Because there are no windows, we decided to paint the walls and the ceiling to brighten up the space!
Thank you for continually being so supportive of our crazy efforts. You guys are truly a blessing in our lives!
Kevin
I love the transom window, I think I need some of those boogers.
Idea: You should blow up the picture you took of 1 4 3 on the wall to a 10 x 13, frame it and put it on 'that' wall. Fun!
You guys are doing great, it will feel so good when you have it done, I know the process can be fulfilling as well.
what a sweetie! And, 143 will always be there underneath it all! Looks great!
SMiles!
Michelle
WOW! I can't wait to see the finished results! The love note is super sweet! :)

I love seeing your transformations! This is going to be beautiful.
Don't we all love the little love notes? What a way to start and end a day.
That's advice for every new bride-to-be at her shower..."always remember the love notes!"
Cool transoms. Lucky you, to have 9 foot ceilings!
AND...I WANT/NEED/AM IN LOVE with that kitchen you posted!!!!
The kitchen is the LAST thing on our LONG remodel list...That's one for the idea book!!!!
Thanks for sharing....
Love your site, Layla (and Kevin)! I have given ideas from your home to my friends and always recommend your site for those who need inspiration. I have recently jumped on the Blogging bandwagon and hope to become more proficient as time allows. Thank you for sharing all of the details....love it all ( and, quite frankly, am a little jealous of all the old house personality;)

I love that he is willing and able to jump in and work on these projects. Could you imagine if you were doing all this by yourself?? Not that you can't, you are completely able, but it's so much better when someone can help. And even better when they leave you love notes. It looks fantastic! Can't wait to see the reveal!
I just found your site and LOVE what you do. I've already done the checkerboard floor you featured a while ago. Anyway I normally don't comment, but I had to on this one. My dad has always done the 1-4-3 thing for my mom. Once he mowed it in the grass. Its fun to see someone else does it too.
Mrs. LC,
I would like to inquire in the packaging and selling of Mr. LC. He is not only handy and darling but the 143 melted my heart!! What a man! Please get back to me ASAP as I could use a little 143!!
Happy Fall!
Miss. Happy Chippy Junk
Ohhh...how sweet! I'm sure that's been said TONS of times! Anyway, it looks GREAT!!! You guys are SOOO inspiring! ;)
my hub and i have our own secret code for "i love you"... it's svo. it means subject verb object.
so i get all gooey inside when i see other couples have their own shorthand for it.
i can't wait to see the hallway when it's all finished :)
No way! We love 143s around here too (they can often be found in the fog of the bathroom mirror or window). Adorable! Can't wait to see how it all looks when it's done.

It's official.. I am developing a crush on your hubby!! What?? Did I just say that? (I am feeling like a cougar right now!!) Ha!! No, he just seems like the sweetest guy ever!! Hang on to him!!! Good goin on the hallway...it looks great!!!
I love your "handsome" "transome", LOL! Y'all are really doing an awesome job Layla! Aww it is nice to have a hubby that will surprise you..it is the little things like that, that make them so wonderful!

Wow! You two continue to amaze me and I am now an avid visitor of your blog for motivation and inspiration! Layla...my husband travels a lot too and so when he is home we are always working, working, working on all of our fun projects! I love that another couple out there works together so well and finds fun in their projects...and doesn't consider them just hard work:)
Good luck to the both of you and as always....your cottage is beautiful!
Oh, and the 143 on the wall is truly awesome!! Kevin's a keeper for sure!
Layla.
That sweet, short message will be in your memory forever.
More so than flowers on special days, Chrismas gifts, birthday presents and even diamond, or gem surprises.
The small unexpected things last forever and are keepsakes of the heart.
LOVE the walls and transome door.geri.
Lovely.
What a difference! You've taken a very wierd hallway with too many doors in it and make it special, just by exposing some natural charm of your home. It's so fun to see the process.
I love your hallway! It has such character now. I have some of the same type paneling in my home and I think it's just wonderful. Mine is heart pine and the termites hate it. And the sweet message your husband left...there's needs to be more like him!
:) Lauren
It looks fantastic and your sweet love for each other makes your home all the more beautiful!
Oh my goodness, that is so sweet! (I love your hallway too. It's just chock-full of lovely potential)
OHMYGOSH!!!
My husband and I have said 143 to each other since our pager days back in 1995. I have never met another couple to do this. I LOVE this!!! Now we do it through BB chat and texting. I also try to take pics of anything with the number 143 on it while traveling without him and send it via chat.

WOW!!! I can't believe how much work Mr. LC has been doing! It's going to look IN-CREDIBLE!!! Can't wait to see the after.
I just love how much you two cherish each other. :) It's so refreshing to see.
Blessings all over you two!!!!
Love, love, love the transom window! :)
Thank you for the transom posts! We have the PERFECT spot for one but would have never come up with the idea on our own. Yours looks fabulous!
