The LC on TV

Research has proven that writing down your goals, and your plans to achieve them, is the best way to ensure that you accomplish them.
Kevin and I started writing down our goals in January 2008, and we continually make sure to carve out time to modify them as necessary.
Earlier this week, we made a "run for the border" to take some time to talk about our goals. On this particular day I guess you could say we wanted to think outside the bun. :-)

We shared one side of a booth, and had a meeting of the minds over cheap burritos and nachos & cheese. We discussed everything from how the heck we've gotten to this point in our lives, to where the heck we see ourselves going next.

It was a nice little excursion, and I enjoyed each layer of our conversation as much as the seven that filled my delicious burrito.

Once we arrived back at the house, I immediately went to my computer. I had an email from the CBN television network in my inbox. One of their producers asked if we'd be interested in filming two decorating episodes for the show "The 700 Club". (If you've never seen the show, you can find it on the ABC Family Channel, and a slew of other channels, from 10:00-11:00 am.) Of course we said yes! yes! yes!, so they're flying us to Virginia Beach on the 6th of December to shoot for a few days.

The first segment we're doing is a complete master bedroom makeover. On day one, we'll shop for everything we'll need to re-do the room. Day two, cameras will capture us in action, re-doing the room from start to finish. Day three will be the live reveal of the room. (Yeah, I said live.) <:-O

It's like Design Star, without the judges and crazy restrictions. No shopping at a pet store for this challenge! We'll be given a $1500 budget to work with and we'll be allowed to shop at whichever stores/shops tickle our fancy. I guess I better start doing some research on great places to shop around Virginia Beach!

After we're done shooting the room makeover segment, we'll head to the CBN studio to film the Christmas segment. We're so excited about the whole deal- we can barely sit still and we're talking a mile a minute about our ideas for the room we haven't even seen yet. :-)

Stay tuned for photos of the Halloweenie Roast sometime this weekend.
Remember- you're responsible for choosing the winning costume, so make sure you come back and cast your vote!

Have a happy Halloween!
Layla :-)

I am so excited for you! Congratulations. It is funny that you say you wait on pins and needles to get e-mail responses about your room designs. When you helped me with my kitchen, I kept staring at the computer screen because I couldn't wait to see your response. I was so excited to get your great ideas!

I am glad to see that you are getting the recognition you deserve for your innovative ideas and brilliant execution.

However, I would urge you to reconsider your acceptance of the offer. The 700 Club is a considerably outside of the mainstream in its ideology. Affiliating with the 700 Club may have repercussions for how you are viewed by potential suitors (other tv programs, magazines) in the future.

To many who are not followers of the 700 Club, the organization foments repugnant attitudes toward those who believe in civil rights, equality, and diversity. The targets of these attitudes may just be people whom you may like to have in your audience. Think about it.

I didn't realize The 700 Club had decor segments...I thought it was a Christian talk show.

I also didn't realize they filmed right here in Virginia. When you come, you'll have to check out the shopping in downtown Norfolk and the new shopping area in Newport News. Of course, the outlets are just about 30 minutes away in Williamsburg, as is Colonial Williamsburg, which is chock full of inspiration!

This means you're famous now!! Yea! ;) Wow, I am impressed. What a truly exciting season of your life. It must be so fulfilling to make goals, plan, and diligently work toward them and then get rewarded. Good work to both of you!

I think Dawn has lost her mind. CBN is very respected and I for one am a fan of the good they do across the world. You are not going to be giving political or religious statements...you are going to be decorating. Why can't liberals be more tolerant?

Hi Layla!

It took me awhile to come back down to earth to offer a comment.

I've watched you from your meager beginnings and the first before and after you did for a friend won me over permanently. That post also lit my fire in a very good way.

That post woke something up inside me that had laid dormant for a very long time. I had just found the decor blogworld and watched right before my eyes, my kinda people arriving on my own doorstep for a short visit. I was floored. And further encouraged!

Today, the excitement only climbs higher. And watching your success brings me an excitement that is hard to describe.

Rather than envy, I'm chosing to see this as you basically have laid a path out for most anyone to follow. You are proving anything is indeed possible, you just have to plant the right seeds and work hard with your focused goals.

We all have our stories of hardship. But it's my belief that when we fill our head with good thoughts, good things indeed come back to you.

It was hard for all of us not to be disappointed for you when you didn't land the design challenge thing. God had better things in store for you is all. You can now bring your soul mate along for the ride on this one. Much better deal by far. :)

Well done, my bloggy friend. See you on TV. Wow. My heart smiles big for you! :)

P.S. In one month's time I'm opening up my own home for a show and tell for the town. I'm going for it, just like you advised me to. :)

Thanks for being one of the most encouraging examples on the net.

Layla, I've already commented once, but as the day of the show draws closer I thought I'd throw out some tips for you :). There is a Homegoods in VA Beach about 25mins from CBN. The best thrift stores in the area are in Norfolk (also about 25mins away). There are about four or five on Little Creek Rd in Norfolk and some GREAT furniture can be found here (Thrift Store USA is especially good). Also, the Ghent area of Norfolk is known for their flea markets and antiques. It also has the most amazing old homes that you should sneak a peak of if you get the chance. Hampton Roads is tricky to navigate so take your GPS!!! So excited for you! Good luck :)!

Michelle said...

Hey Layla,

If you do come to the Ghent area, you're welcome to see my ultra-cute 90year old cottage. It's in West Ghent (a block away from where the antique/thrift stores begin). The house is cute, but the decor could use some advice if you're up for it. But even if you're not, seriously email me so I can join you/show you around. :)
