Houzz Ideabook- Meant to be, by the Sea: Coastal-Inspired Design Ideas

Some day, Kevin and I would love to live in a sleepy, little Southern town, that's only a bike rides distance from the sea.

It doesn't have to be fancy, or full of square feet...

Its just gotta have a little character- and floors that squeak beneath our feet!

Hey, a couple can dream, can't they?

After living in a large house with 3 floors and a big yard, I am ready to live in a smaller house again! I would love to live in a town where you could walk to everything! When my husband & I were first married we lived in a little beach town where we could run around the corner during commercials to get our favorite dessert at a place called Grandma Sugarplums.

Layla! Kevin! We've missed you! :)

We took a little break from the blogosphere, and spent some time catching up here tonight. WOW! Have you two been crazy busy! :) I **love** all the changes and had such fun reading posts. You guys are always such a kick. You're one of the few design blogs that Sam actually enjoys, too :)

Happy Spring!

I think dreaming is what keeps life fun and exciting! Our family made vision boards the other day and it was quite fun! We cut out pictures from magazines of anything that we wanted to be, do, see, go etc... If you dream you can become it!

We have that dream too... and it is a good one!

We recently moved to our weekend waterfront home ~ downsizing from 4.5 acres to 1/2 acre- 4,500 sq. ft. to about 1,800 ~ but living on the water is peaceful & full of nature... I love coastal pictures!

Our home now is a cottage in progress...

I was looking for that same kind of place and found it - Amelia Island in Florida which is just north of Jacksonville. Love it! We have finally completed our dream beach cottage and loved the entire process (okay, maybe not the building, so much), but it was all worth it! You should check it out - a quaint downtown with wonderful shops and victorian houses and also, another area of high end resorts with the Ritz Carlton and all of that, BUT, a very normal and liveable area in the middle of the island (a bikes ride away from the ocean) where there are houses that look like the one you have pictured.

Dreams do come true, you could live here: http://www.seabrookwa.com/

My husband and I rent a cottage most holiday weekends. It's a dream of ours to actually own one. These towns are designed by a single person (can't remember the guys name), but he also designed the town in Florida where the movie "The Truman Show" was filmed. Very community oriented -- even a grocery store that will deliver your items to your door!

All the cottages at Seabrook are inspirations!

I totally know what you mean. We already have the small house...just not by the sea. We have friends that have gorgeous wood floors like those in the photo. When we started asking about them, we learned that they were actually salvaged from some of the old tobacco warehouses in Durham, NC. I think that is such a great idea with beautiful results.

Got to have a dream! I love that first kitchen picture with the little aga tucked in the corner. It reminds me of the kitchen in the movie Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Jude Law. Just picture how cozy that kitchen would be on a winter night with that aga sending out heat (I live in Canada can you tell?)

My dream is to have a little cottage like that... a bit of a big dream smack in the middle of a huge city ...but that's what dreams are.

Thanks for giving me another minute to dream the dream.

I miss living by the sea. Well, I still can see it from my window, but we don't live in a house right by the sea anymore (with our own acces to the beach).
It was for from being this pretty tough!

It would be incredible to live by the sea! I love the look of beach cottages and would like to cover my own woodsy cottage in shells, driftwood and boat paraphernalia and fill my yard with palm trees and sand but I'm completely landlocked in Missouri so I'm just trying to emulate the feel I get from that look without the use of shells and such.

What a lovely little coastal cottage...I can almost smell the salty air and hear the waves crashing faintly in the distance! Ok, now I want to go to the beach!! :) Maybe someday your dreams and wishes for a beach cottage will come true!
Blessings,
Stacey

My husband and I love the coast. We usually try to get there at least one week out of the year. We would love to live by the coast some day as well. In the mean time we have a few spots in our home that are costal, including a candle like you have in your Houzz ideabook.

I share your dream! We live in central FL and my girls were on spring break last week so we headed to the beach. It was sooo relaxing I can feel recharged after just a day staring out at the waves and feeling the cool ocean breeze. We have 6 girls so downsizing isn't really an option right now, but my perfect home would be about 1500 sf with all the coastal charm in your pics! One day they'll be all grown up so maybe......
