Vintage Columbia Kitchen Scale

I saw this little scale up for bids on Ebay today.

Is anybody else as intrigued with it as I am?

Color Cravings

I've been thinking a lot about color lately.
I used to think that I wanted all my walls white.
When I look through magazines, white rooms are always the ones that captivate me the most.
But the longer I live with my white walls, the more I crave a little color.

My Kitchen recently got a coat of pale seaglass blue, my Dining Room has been warmed up with a soft, sandy color (Julie, you're the winner of my "guess the kitchen and dining room colors contest...contact me for more details!)
Once we get the beadboard fully installed, I'll be sharing updated Dining Room photos here on my blog.

Some days I crave yellow...

Some days it's green I'm drawn to...

Other days I just want to be surrounded by blue...

Country Living featured this orange room, painted Gliddens "Southern Tip":

Although, I don't think I could personally live with Orange in a main living area, I might look forward to seeing it make an unexpected appearance in a Guest Bathroom.

What do you think? Do you like every room to be a different color? Do you love living with all white walls? Do you only use neutrals? Are you okay with using different colors, as long as they're monochromatic? I'd love to hear your opinions on color.

I know I'll receive a variety of opinions here, and I'd like to draw inspiration from all the different view points. (I'd like to think of this as an online "study guide" for me to prepare for the Design Star competition!)

Ciao for now!

Layla :-)

PS...What is your current favorite paint color and who is is made by?

Amazing Drapes, a Helping Hand and Gym Shelving

Sonny might be cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs, but I, myself, FLIP for flax-colored linen drapes with nailhead trim from West Elm.

This "helping hand" appeals to me for some reason too:

And how awesome is this metal, gymnnasium-style wall shelf

So many goodies out there....sigh. :-)

In other news- I've got the WORST sinus infection EVER in the history of the WORLD....so that's all I'm going to blog about for now.
Me and my astronaut helmet-sized head are going back to bed. :-(

Fully Alive

I'm sitting here beaming.

:-)

I have a friend named Lacey.
She sings for a band called Flyleaf.
We haven't talked in a while because their band has BLOWN UP and they are travelling around the globe doing their thang.
I couldn't be happier for them.
I remember when they were starving artists, touring around the U.S. in a 15-passenger van.
They attended church, every Sunday, in whichever city they happened to be in.
Their very first tour was with my husbands band.
They opened the show every night, and the kids just ate 'em up.
Lacey and I were the only girls on that tour, so we bonded.

Turns out she wrote a song about me, inspired by our time together and the things I shared with her.
Apparently it's done very well at radio. (No more starving...yay!)
And now they've released an acoustic version, which I just heard for the first time, today.

Here's an excerpt...

Quite possibly one of the most amazing things anyone has done for me...I am truly touched and feeling extra shiny today. :-)

My (sweaty) post-show hubby, me, Lacey and James after the last show on their tour together in Texas.

Bathroom Inspiration

How cool is this Bathroom?

If you've got a new home, but want to achieve an "old home" look, this photo may serve as inspiration on how to get that look in your Bathroom.

I am absolutely in love with the sliding barn-style door that leads from the bedroom into this bathroom. I will most definitely be replicating this idea on the opening to our Guest Bathroom.

The planked walls give it TONS of cottage appeal, and this too would be easy to replicate by using inexpensive beadboard panelling.

I'm also really drawn to all the open shelving and the symmetrical way they have displayed all of the items on them. The vintage camera collection is gorgeous, but could easily be switched out with a multitude of other collectibles.

Large seashells:

Wicker Baskets:

Rusty Dutch Tulip Baskets:

Galvanized Locker Baskets:

Old metal and glass Seltzer Bottles:

Vintage Kitchen Scales:

Antique Crocks:

The list goes on and on.

And now, so does my "to do" list. :-)
