My Mom spends several fulfilling hours creating each one-of-a-kind Shellbox, which encapsulate her passion for art, and her love of the sea. This timeless art form bonds a part of the artist, with a part of the world, for eternity. The back of each box is numbered, and hand-signed by Jude.

TESTIMONIALS:

Hi, Jude,
I wanted to tell you how much I LOVE the shellbox. It came today, and all of the shells are perfectly in place. It reminds me of my mother. We lived in Bermuda for a number of years, and she used to collect shells. I have no idea what happened to her collection, but your work brought those memories back for me so clearly. Thank you.I’m not sure where I’m going to hang it yet, but I’ve always heard that when you see something you love, buy it and worry about where it goes later!

Cheers,
ReneƩ

Dear Jude,

Here is my daughter with the shellbox. We both love it! It is perfect for her room (she loves the sea). It was beautifully packaged too. I am honored to be your first online customer.

Quote Jars!

Today, I'm happy to introduce the latest Lettered Cottage creation, the "Quote Jar".
Like our "Good Jars", each Quote Jar is filled with 365 of my favorite quotes of all time.
I'm talkin', read-one-and-it-will-change-your-day-kinda-quotes. :-)
The slips are nestled inside of a glass, wire-bale jar, that is simply divine on its own.
I keep one in my Guest Room, for visitors to enjoy.
I also keep one on the window sill, near my bed, so that I can start each day in a more inspired way.
Each time I loosen the wire clasp, and draw a slip from my jar, I make a very conscious effort to remember that this is a new day, and I feel so blessed within this moment. Don't forget to find some stillness, and create moments for yourself filled with value and meaning. They're so important!
For me, these special "twinklings" create clarity, which in turn, creates the opportunity for new and wonderful ways for me to express the joy that lives within me.
And today, that joy is expressed through my Quote Jar.

Here are some examples of what you'll find inside:

"A good laugh is like sunshine in the house" - William Makepeace Thackeray

"Happiness: To be dissolved into something complete & great" - Willa Cather

"Work is love made visible" - Kahlil Gilbran

"Rise above the storm and you will find sunshine" - Mario Fernandez

"Believe in yourself, and the rest will fall into place" - Brad Henry

"Minds are like parachutes. They only function when open" - Thomas Dewar

"A smile is a curve that sets everything straight" - Phyllis Diller

"A problem divided by you equals change" - Kevin Lee Palmer (my hubby!)

Each jar measures 4.5" tall.
Cost is $15.99, plus shipping and handling, and y
ou will receive your jar within 2-3 weeks.

*Edited 12/20/2009 - Due to our demanding design consulation and renovation schedule, we are no longer able to make and sell our Quote Jars.

Good Jars...they're back!

Back by popular demand, a fresh batch of Good Jars!

Here's the story of the creation of the Good Jar.

Over about a months time, I sat in a quiet, pretty spot and wrote down a list of 365 things that would make my day a little brighter.

I've transferred my list onto 365 small, fortune-sized, slips of paper and made a home for them inside lidded, glass wire-bale jars.

Each one of these slips state short inspirational sentences, that suggest simple things you can do, or look at, or think about, to ensure that you have a good day.

- Place one bedside, and draw one slip daily upon awakening.

- Use one as an interactive accessory in a Guest Bedroom, to make your visitors smile.

- Normally used to hold food items, these little jars look right at home on the window sill in the Kitchen, too.

Here's an example of what's inside:

Whistle while you work

Notice the colors of the sunset

BE a breath of fresh air

Hide a note for someone to find

Make a sandwich and cut it diagonally

Smile at everyone

Make a wish upon a star

Each jar is handmade, by yours truly, with love.

The price of each jar is $15.99, plus shipping and handling.

Click the Buy Now button if you're interested in receiving a little jar of goodness, and you'll receive it within 2-3 weeks!

*Edited 12/20/2009 - Due to our demanding design consultation and renovation schedule, we are not longer making or selling our Good Jars.

Shellboxes

Here are a couple of products my Mom is creating for letteredolive.com.
All of the shells were hand-picked by my Mom, from the Gulf Coast, and are gorgeously displayed "specimen-style" in your choice of distressed black, distressed white or teak wood shadowbox frame.

This first style of Shellbox will include a laminated "key" that lists the names of all the shells included. We like to lay it on top of the shadowbox and let the shell-tipped satin ribbon hang down that side, like this...

The second style of Shellbox looks like this:

As soon as I have photos of a Distressed black Shellbox, I'll post photos here.

In the meantime...we'd love to hear what you think of them!

Etsy Shop

The Lettered Olive Etsy shop is officially open!
I've only got a few Quoteboxes on there right now, but I'll continue to add more throughout the week. I've been battling with a BAAAAD cold and now I have PINK EYE....ugh...so my time on the computer has been limited.....(cough, cough, cough)
:-(

I will also be putting another inspirational product I've been creating on there next week...and I'm SOOOO excited for you to see it! It's not only a great-looking home accessory, but will make a FANTASTIC gift too. I should have a photo of it to show you here within the next few days when my custom labels arrive....stay tuned!

Here's my temporary shop address:
www.laylapalmer.etsy.com

I did manage to get technical support to answer the sixth email I sent them regarding my troubles with LetteredOlive.com. So hopefully within the next couple weeks our real site will be up and running.

I'll keep you posted as that story develops.... :-)

Thanks for hanging in there with me!

Lettered Olive Logo

Calling all opinions!
I am trying to settle on which "Lettered Olive" logo to go with.
Here are the seven choices I have designed. I love them all, but am curious as to which ONE gets the most instant gut reaction from you all.
(FYI: The "things" or "scribbles" on the left and right side of logo #1, #2, #4 and #6 are parentheses. I love the mixture of their organic-ness, next to clean, crisp type...yummy!)

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

6.

7.

I want EVERYONE who reads this post to please leave me a comment telling me which logo you like best. (Wonder how many people read this thing anyway?) It'll only take a second, and I'm determined to get at least 200 opinions, so that I can make a very educated decision. This is super important to me, and I trust your opinions....you're some stylish folks!

I should tell you a little bit about the thought process that went into the creation of these designs.
Lettered Olive is going to be about unique and inspiring cottage decor.
Our style is classic, organic, stylish and simple.
We love to mix clean-lined & fresh with time-worn & crusty.
A lot of what we create will be seaside-inspired, and other things will be farmhouse-fresh.
Lettered Olive will also offer both Interior and Landscape Design Consulting services.
I tried to design logos that I thought encapsulated what we're all about.
Now it's your turn to choose which you like best!

Ready? Set? COMMENT! :-)

Edited on 9/14/08- Some folks have suggested I design a "more creative" logo. But I gotta say, "simple" seems to be where it's at:

Lettered Olive - Sneak Peek

Greetings!

I have a very special announcement to make today.
LetteredOlive.com will officially be up and running in September!
There, I said it.
While my Mom is working on different products at her place, I've been up to my eyeballs in sawdust & seashells, and wading through stacks and stacks of the most inspirational quotes & words in existence over here at mine.

I have a confession.
I've had a love affair with Typography for quite some time now.
Numbers, letters, symbols, punctuation- I love to admire them all.
There is so much beauty and grace in the written word.
A single letter or number, used in the right way, can often make my heart skip an entire beat.
There is an extra-special kind of magic, though, that occurs when just the right words are gathered together. For example...

"And then we sat,
on the edge of the earth,
feet dangling over the side-
and marvelled that we
had found each other."

- Erik Dillard

Words strewn together in a way that makes it impossible not to feel.
They are my escape. My motivation.
Silent little 'smile-makers', if you will.

At Lettered Olive, we have combined our love for words, our passion to inspire, and our desire to design unique home accessories- to create a product we call our "Rustic Quotebox".

Here is a sneak peak at a few...

Think-
"above a twin-sized headboard, or crib, or in a cottage by the beach".
This piece measures 28" tall, 18" wide.
Color, Rainwashed.

Think-
"end of a long hallway, or tall narrow wall
that is crying out for something to make a statement".
This piece measures 44" tall, 14" wide.
Color, Eucalyptus.

Two simple words that pack a positive punch.
This piece measures 24" tall, 14" wide.
Color, Sandbasket.

This piece reminds us to let our light shine, everyday!
It measures 24" tall, 14" wide.
Color, Apple.

The Rustic Quotebox is just ONE of the products Lettered Olive will have to offer. Check back for more Lettered Olive updates throughout the next couple of weeks.

Our goal is to continually develop home decor that is fresh to the marketplace, and pieces we would want to display in our own homes. If you like our style, and would like to see what else we have to offer- make sure to check out www.LetteredOlive.com in September!

And if you have a second, pop over to HGTV.com and rate my audition video! I'm desperately seeking 5-star ratings!

Thank you, thank you! :-)
