Junkin' in Nashville with Rhoda and Kim!

A couple of years ago, I stumbled onto something called a "blog" written by this lovely lady...

I discovered one written by this gorgeous gal on the same day...

I remember feeling so inspired as I read through what they referred to as their "posts".

And I was extra-ecstatic to find out that they both lived just a little ways up I-65 from me! (Rhoda is in Birmingham and Kim is in Nashville.)

Fast forward to yesterday.
The three of us got together for a little fun at the Nashville Flea Market, so I thought I'd share some photos of the stuff we saw, here on the blog today.

Photobucket

I had PLANNED on shooting lots of video footage- but because I forgot to put a memory card in my new point-and-shoot camera (Kodak EasyShare M580 from Office Depot), I was only able to take a handful of pics...

Rhoda posted lots more photos of all the fabulous stuff we saw over at her blog though.
Here's a few that feature some of my favorite finds of the day...

I fell in love with so many things!

But since I'm on a MAJOR simplification kick, I really didn't plan on buying much.

I did find an irresistible, old ladder marked at $15 though- and I ended up snaggin' it for just ten bucks.

It just barely fit in my rental car...

We couldn't figure out how to get the back seats to fold down, so we had to get creative.

(And, yes, I did make a blonde joke as Rhoda and I struggled to wedge it into place.)

I was instantly drawn to it's boat-like shape...

And, of course, I dug the writing on the side of it...

And all the little metal bits too...

Not sure where it'll live yet.

Maybe in the guest bathroom, up against the wall as a towel rack. (?)

Who knows!

For now, it's hanging out in our dining room.

Along with our bed...

Ah, life in a fixer!

Milk Jug Lamp

Hello!

Did you have a good weekend?

It was a busy one over here at TLC!
Among other things, I finallllllly finished re-doing the jug lamp I got last year on the Endless Yard Sale...

Photobucket

It's no longer blue, it no longer has a fabric decal on the front, and the shade is much spiffier now too.

Check it out!

Up at the top of the base, under a few layers of grime, I discovered a pretty copper color...

Photobucket

And underneath the huge fabric ship sticker, I found the words

Mitchell Dairy Co
Bridgeport CT 63

Photobucket

They're sort of engraved into the metal, so I used an old sponge tip applicator to rub some light brown eyebrow shadow into them so they'd stand out a little more...

Photobucket

I used Rustoleum's "Heirloom White" spray paint (satin finish) on the base...

Photobucket

And last but not least, I re-covered the shade in a textural, neutral-colored fabric and a bit of jute trim I had left over from my chandelier project...

Photobucket

The fabric came from Claudia's Cloth Barn (here in Prattville, AL), and the jute trim came from M&J Trimming

Here she is!
All made up and ready to sit on my bedside table...

Photobucket

I'm stoked about how it turned out!

Especially when I saw that this one (available at Bellacor) costs $524.90...

Photobucket

My milk jug lamp cost just $30 altogether.

That's what I'm talkin' 'bout Willis!

Happy Monday!

PS- It looks like I removed the handle in the photos- but I didn't! It's still there!

Mantel Mania: Sneak Peek

Intrigued?

:-)

Well, I am happy to report that everything came together quite nicely!

Turns out, I actually had a lot of other things around the house that I was able to work into the mantel display as well.

This is one of them...

Don't worry- it doesn't look anything like that now.
Let's just say it "bumped into" my Sea Salt-colored frame, some leftover Nacre-colored paint, a can a chalkboard spray paint and a piece of sandpaper, and they all lived happily ever after.

:-)

If you've visited my blog before, you know I'm all about the re-purposing of previously loved art and accessories.

Because when it comes to old treasures, there is always a new story waiting to be told.

I did use some new items too though. A couple of white pitchers I've had for a while now, some grapevine elements, some great-looking faux greenery, and the little speckled eggs I mentioned last month .

(Which, by the way, I had planned to use before I saw the faux eggs on the cover of Pottery Barn, thankyouverymuch. LOL!)

"Mantel Mania" has turned into a pretty fun exercise.
I've received a lot of questions about how to decorate different types of mantels, so it's created an opportunity for me to really think about what I would do with any given mantel. So I think instead of just one day, I'll try and break it up over the entire week next week. Monday will be devoted to sharing my Spring-inspired mantel, but the rest of the week I'll try and put together some posts that offer inspiring ideas for all types of mantels, so that there's a little somethin'-somethin' for everyone.

:-)

If you've got a special request, feel free to leave a comment on this post, and I'll see what I can come up with. (Because we have such creative readers, I'm sure there will be lots of good ideas in the comments next week too!)

And if anyone has a mantel display they'd like to share with me ahead of time- I would love it if you'd send me a photo to LaylaPalmer@aol.com.
(Your ideas could help someone with a similar set-up!)

Alright, I've got a husbear to go wake up, but I'll leave you with an itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny sneak peek of a couple of my mantle bits...

I'm calling the look "Farmhouse Fresh", and I can't wait to hear whatchya think!

Happy Weekend friend,

PS- We're hosting a fantastic Lisa Leonard Designs Giveaway this weekend, so make sure you come back and enter if you're interested in winning a little bit of lovely...
