Quick Closet Update

Well, we're in the home stretch as far as the master bedroom closets are concerned.

Here's a little video to prove it...

And as you can see, it also proves that I am one of the weirdest people you know.

But unless this is your first visit here, you already knew that.

Happy weekend friend!

Love,

True Value Blog Squad - 2010!

Last year, True Value invited us to be on their national "DIY Blog Squad" and we were beyond shocked and pumped. I don't know how they found us, but boy were we glad they did! With their help we were able to get a new mailbox...

fix up an old bathroom door...

And we even figured out how to tile a wall in our (half-done!) guest bathroom...

(Note: Click on the photos above if you'd like to read about those projects!)

Well, they've invited us to be a part of the Blog Squad again this year, and you can bet yer bottom dollar we'll be focusing on our master bedroom this time around!

We'll definitely be loading up on lots of this stuff...

We're leaning towards a pretty shade of blue, and a mellow shade of white for the walls.

Here's my inspiration...

And if you follow us on Twitter, you've already seen the sweet little $40 dresser we're going to make over...

Luckily, because the lady who owns our local True Value loves ALL things home, they carry a huge selection of decorative knobs and pulls...

We can't wait to finally be able to open those drawers without having to use MacGyver maneuvers!

We also look forward to seeing the projects our fellow Blog Squad members work on too...

Katie from All Bower Power

Josh from Bungalow 23

Kate from Centsational Girl

Gabrielle from Design Mom

Kit from DIY Diva

Joey & Lana from Joey and Lana Make a House a Home

Roeshel from The DIY Show Off

Brian & Paul from The Handyguys Podcast

Sarah from Thrifty Decor Chick

And from what we hear, True Value is gonna be hosting some incredible contests that YOU can get involved in too- so if you'd like to sign up to win fabulous prizes, see what's currently on sale, or just see what the Blog Squad is working on- you can follow True Value on Facebook HERE, or Twitter HERE.

Now let's get this paint party started!

*We were selected by True Value to work on the DIY Blog Squad. We've been compensated for our time commitment to the program as well as for the materials needed to complete our DIY Blog Squad projects. That being said, our opinions are entirely our own and we have not been paid to publish positive comments.

The Crazy Cottage

Well, I finally got my closet cleaned out, and man was there a lot of stuff in there!

Here's a SMALL sampling of some of the things I discovered...

May have to open that etsy shop back up!

And imagine my surprise when I uncovered this full-size keyboard, hidden behind one of my old robes...

I forgot I even OWNED a full-size keyboard!

I'm gonna see if our niece or nephews want it- because I'm certainly not shoving that thing back in there again.

I also managed to fill one 40-gallon trash bag, and one huge box, full of clothes I can't fit into/can't imagine ever wearing again.

We brought them over to Goodwill last night and I can't tell you how good it felt to get that stuff outta the house!

Photobucket

Since the bedroom has become a complete and total disaster work zone in the past 48 hours, we've temporarily moved our king-sized mattress into our dining room so that we can sleep in there while we re-do the bedroom.
(What's that ya say? Where's our dining table? Why that's in the living room, next to the piano, of course.)

Having to "camp out" isn't so bad though.
The dining room is the coolest room in the house (our HVAC died earlier this year, and we have a window unit in there), and I've enjoyed waking up to a pretty blue ceiling in the morning, and having a Wonder Wall as a headboard night...

So for the time being, the dining room will act as our bedroom, and the living room will act as both our living room and our dining room.

Needless to say, it's a little crazy around the ol' cottage this week.

But we're okay with crazy.

Especially when the end result is a kick butt (keyboard-less!) closet.

Cleaning out the Closets

And after we're done with the right side, we've got some work to do on the left side too...

Ugh.

Master Bedroom "Do"

We did some demo over here in the master bedroom today, in preparation for the big re-do.
Which, come to think of it, isn't really a re-do.
It's more like a "do", period.

Ya see, we haven't even really touched the room since we moved into this place three years ago. It's just been a big, blank box all this time.

But starting this month, it's BYE BYE bare windows, texture-less walls, crappy trim, outdated ceiling fan and stamped drywall ceiling!

HELLO comfy, cozy retreat- just for me and my Sweets!

Some of our plans include building a bed for our king-sized mattress (that's currently laying on the floor! <:-O), adding wood planks to a couple of the walls (it'll be attached on top of the drywall this time), and making a trip to the Greyhound station in Montgomery, to pick up two incredible antique nightstands (gifted to us by an amazingly sweet & talented friend of mine who is shipping them to us.)

Let the adventure begin!

Our Blank Slate Master Bedroom

Photobucket

A couple of months ago, I wrote an article for HGTV.com that focused on master bedroom decorating ideas for small, medium and large budgets.

And while I was thrilled about the opportunity- I did have to chuckle a bit when presented with the assignment because, you see, I myself don't actually have a beautifully-decorated master bedroom yet.

(We shot the following video last Fall, and although we do have new flooring in the room now- everything else still remains unfinished. Blech!)

Soooo, since our master bedroom isn't even close to being done, my contact at HGTV.com suggested I use some photos of our guest bedroom in the article instead.

But I needed a few more photos of a couple different rooms, so like any master bedroom-less girl writing an article about pretty master bedrooms would do, I reached out to a couple of friends that do have finished master bedrooms!

The first was my friend Erin.
And even though she was super pregnant at the time, she still managed to run around the room and shoot a trillion beautiful pics for me...

Isn't it loverly!?
I adore the board and batten wall treatment, the layered bedding and the antique bed!

The next was my friend Brooke.
Check out the photos she hooked me up with...

Can you imagine waking up to that awesome view?

Photobucket

It was such a treat to write about both of their beautiful rooms!

Now if I could just talk them both into coming over to help me work on my bedroom.

Speaking of which- what color do you think we should paint it?
We're ready and rarin' to start re-doin'!

I added a "Subscribe by Email" widget to our sidebar today!
