Okay, before you watch this- you should know that I have not yet:

1. Installed a backsplash
2. Finished installing the flooring
3. Installed new light fixtures
4. Added all the accessories I'd like to add
5. Finished painting the kitchen cabinets
6. Finished adding trim to the top of the kitchen cabinets
7. Filled all the cabinets with dishes
8. Installed new countertops
9. Bought a new Dining Room table & chairs
10. Replaced the white appliances with stainless steel ones
11. Installed a stainless steel range hood with telescoping chimney
12. Figured out my window treatments
13. Installed french doors in the Dining Room
The list goes on and on....

But this shows where I'm at as of today! :-)

And let's not forget the BEFORE photo of the kitchen in all it's sherbet-colored loveliness:

I love, love your cabinets! I would have never thought of painting them black but they really make a statement with your white china. Now I'm rethinking my white ones. Great job!

Just recently found your blog! That looks fantastic! I can't wait to see it when it is totally done!

WOW!! It looks like a totally different room! Where do you get your inspiration from? Who does your carpentry work? I love white dishes too and have been trying to convince myself to remove some doors off my cabinets. It's all really lovely, Layla...I'm so impressed with your obvious commitment to making this house look beautiful. Do you plan on staying in it for a long time?

OK, so how about some wonderful kudos for what you HAVE done! WOW, that looks great, Layla. Y'all should be so proud. Your videos are just too cute, love the presentation.

and, two questions: are your cabinets black? Looks like everyone else says so, but at first I thought gray/green but it was probably the light. From the whole room shot, they def. look black. Gorgeous!

And where did you get those fab seashell prints?

Love it all!

Hey Sarah White!

I get my inspiration from colors, textures & shapes that make my heart skip a beat. I am ALWAYS observing design elements. Wherever I go, I focus on what I like/don't like about the space I'm in. (My name is Layla, and I'm a design-a-holic) :-)

Kevin and I do all the carpentry work. I have visions of what I want in my head, and then we just figure out a way to construct it. It's not always perfect, or the right way to do it, but it's amazing what a little caulk & some paint can do!

You should definately remove some cabinet doors if you are drawn to that look. It's easy to pull dishes in and out, and as long as they coordinate, the shelves will always look nice. Go for it girl!

We don't have any plans to move, but Kevin and I are dreamers, so our story will just keep writing itself I suppose.

What a fun transformation...and you are not even done yet? Amazing!

Your floors are gorgeous! Love how you added a Top piece and molding to the open uppers! Plus you do all the work yourself...verrry cool indeed.

Since we are all questioning the color, I'd say it looks like a brown/black in my monitor. I had to watch the video several times because my computer kept hiccuping at it. Sooo fun to watch you work your magic!

Hey there! :-)

The color of the cabinets is black. Not a super dark black, more of a charcoal black. Black with a little touch of gray in it. I got the color from a lady who had used it in her kitchen. She gave me the last little bit of it she had, so I could take it to the paint store and have them mix me up some. The label on her can was so old, and completely faded, there's no telling what the name of the color is. Wish I knew!

Rhoda- I got the metal seashell art from TJ Maxx. :-)

Fantastic transformation -- just love the black cabinets! We painted our kitchen cabinets in white when we moved in here --- but I do have a tiny black island, black china cabinet and black bar stools! Might have to change the cabinets ....... hmmmmmm ..... Love the video and the song!

It's beautiful, Layla - I could live in it just like it is! You really do know how to accessorize. You don't overdo - and there is just enough. Great job...you two make a great team!
