True Value Giveaway #1

This giveaway has now ended.
We'll be back soon to announce the winners name!

Good afternoon!

Yesterday morning, we woke up extra early so that we could take a another trip to our favorite True Value store. The store is about 40 minutes from our house, and since I usually work on design consultations from mid-morning to late in the evening, we wanted to make sure I could get back in time for me to get in a full days worth of work in.

Because our second True Value DIY Blog Squad project is going to be an outdoor project, we've had exterior design on the brain a lot lately. As I type, our yard is completely covered in leaves, and our 5-year old rake actually looks nervous, standing in the corner of our storage area under the house. Unfortunately I don't think we're allowed to purchase a leaf blower for ourselves (our DIY Squad mission is to tackle projects), but that doesn't mean we can't spend some of the money True Value gave us on YOU, right? :-)

So our October True Value giveaway will be this fantastic electric leaf blower/vacuum made by E-Max:

Here's a short video we shot yesterday morning while picking it out.
(It will give you a sneak peek at the decor items we'll be giving away in November too!)

To enter to win the E-Max Leaf Blower/Vacuum leave a comment on this post, and tell us why you'd like to win it! (we love your stories!)

The giveaway starts today (Friday, October 23rd, 2009) and will end on Monday, October 26th, 2009 at noon, Central Time. We'll choose a winner using Random.org on Monday afternoon- so make sure to come back to see if you've won!

Good luck!

Kevin will be back soon with a post about our bathroom door project. He's in the home stretch, and you're never going to believe how this DIY story ends!

Bear hugs,
Layla :-)

PS- Don't forget to enter True Values "DIY Drama Contest" for a chance to win $5,000 to spend at your local store too!

I would like to have this because it would be fun to see all the beautiful Vermont Maple leaves that fell in my yard take one more flight to the compost pile! I am queenesperfect at yahoo.com

I would LOVE a leaf blower!!! We have six maples and cherry trees in our front lawn alone! LOVED the video...

Well, WE don't have any trees in our yard that drops a lot of leaves but my neighbor does! I hate raking the leaves that blow into my yard. I would use this to blow them back into his yard (ok...maybe I would bag them).

my red rock landscaped front yard is sooooo much in need of this giveaway.

I never win anything but you never know unless you try right?

Thanks Layla and Kevin.

I would like the leaf blower because our neighbor has a huge tree and all of his leaves/acorns blow onto our property. He is too lazy to blow them up himself, so he has his 70 year old dad blow them off his property and sometimes our property to be nice. We feel bad, so we'd like to blow our own leaves off. Thank you!!

Oh, pick me, pick me! We are moving from a home completely surrounded by cedar trees (thus no leaves) to a home surrounded by huge maples. So, needless to say, a leaf blower is on our short list of things we want for the new place! With a baby on the way, it sure would make our outdoor chores go faster so we could focus on fixing up this little girl's nursery!

I would love to win this for my father! He always takes great pride in his lawn looking great, and right now he's battling lung cancer. He's going through chemo and is super tired all the time. This would take a load off of his hands, while still letting him do what he loves to do!

I think it would be awesome to win that leaf blower. Not only could I use it outside to blow all my cypress needless out of my yard, but I could use it inside too.

What a wonderful giveaway for fall.
We live in a home that is surrounded by trees. Which is gorgeous in the summer but a real pain in the fall.
I do the majority of the yard work and am out there for weeks gathering and disposing of leaves.
They are all over the ground and intertwined in all of my flower beds.
And a lot of care has to be taken so that my flowers are not destroyed.
This would make my job so much easier and faster.
Thank you so much for the chance to win.

I really need the leaf blower because my poor husband worked all summer long mowing neighbor's lawns to earn extra money-the temps were in the 90's and high humidity-there he was dredging from one lawn to the other with a green towel on his head trying to keep himself cool. Thanks to him, we had a little extra money to fly home for a week to see our families. It would be just awesome to gift this to him in appreciation of his hard work and to make sure he has all he needs to be sure he is kept busy next summer-out of my hair-cutting lawns again! thanks for the chance to surprise him!

What a great contest. I would love to win this for my husband. A few years ago we sold our home and moved from Florida to our dream spot in northern Michigan. Not to be one stumped by the volume of leaves that fell what seemed to be everyday, he set to work in his spare time to fix the problem. As he described what would happen to my beautiful lawn mower, (yes beautiful) I worried a little bit about how funny I'd look while I mowed our front yard. We were still new to block and our neighbors were betting on how long we could last the climate change, so I was nervous about being forced to push the Mower/ Blower leaf contraption around in public. My dear husband would venture out to the garage after work and soon afterwards I'd hear the sound of metal clanking. He works in the HVAC field, so he knows how to bend metal to his will, and I guess that I should have rested easy. He figured out a way to hook up a motor to the mower and a ridiculous amount of metal to my poor machine and turned it into a push-leaf- mower-blower. To my horror, our new neighbor was standing in our backyard commending him for it and watching during it's maiden voyage around and around our yard. It got the job done and was much quieter than the leaf blowers that we could hear from a few blocks away, so all in all it was a good project. A few months afterwards, we felt the need to pack up and move back to Florida to be closer to our family. Out of the few items that we couldn't pack into our already overcrowded moving truck and trailer was my husband's new leaf contraption. We are now enjoying life in sunny Florida, but as we're entering fall, we are starting to find leaves littering the ground. I have a brand new, shiny mower and my husband keeps eyeballing it in that funny way he has when he's plotting a project and if I can win this blower for him, I feel that my mower will be safe. I don't have the words to decribe the automatic dog-feeding contraption that he just hooked up.
Thanks so much for offering such a great contest.

I would love to win the leaf blower - I have an antique shop and the maple tree across the street likes to drop its leaves on my doorstep. They make their way in with every customer. My rake is nervous, too!

degood said...

I want to win because it seems like an electric blower would be much better than my current rake method!

Hi,
I'd love the leaf blower. Our house is 109 years old. That's right, built in 1900 and we have 3 oak trees in our driveway (yes, that's right - in) which are about 109 years old too. HUGE!!!!!! Lots of leaves, too! So, pick me, pick me, pick me please!

I would love to win this because right now our yard is a big, leafy mess and this would help us get it cleaned up in a jiffy!

We would love to win a new leaf blower because we are True Value 'die-hards', we have ten fully developed trees that blanket our yard (crying for a leaf vac/blower) and our current model is getting old and in serious need of replacement parts... unfortunately like me! ;)

This might sound bad, but I would love to win this as a gift for my brother for Christmas. How cheap am I? But, he would love it and it would make his yard work easier.

I would like to win this because we live in the country and have a ton of leaves to clean up. I always feel like I'm shoveling while it's still snowing... Thanks for the giveaway!

Carla said...

I would love a leaf blower because the rakes I have do not entice my children to want to rake leaves. But I am sure that if we had a leaf blower there would be some boys and maybe even a man that would want to play with that thing around here. Maybe they would even move some leaves into piles with it. HA

I would enjoy winning this blower because the landlord complains so much about the lawn in the summer and fall and winter.

Oh wow, we've needed a leave lower for ages! Our yard is lined down one side with what I've always called talll skinnies, which are really some sort of ash trees and they have so many leaves it's unreal!

We spend so much time raking and bagging, this would cut our time significantly and leave us time to get other things done or just spend some time together..alone maybe. ;)

Thank you so much!

A leaf blower would be great! We live in the desert so it's not really leaves that collect in our yard, it's all the pods that fall off our trees. Thanks!

CanAmBlond said...

I would like to win the leaf blower because...well, frankly, I'm jealous! While I'm out there raking my brains out, my neighbor comes out with HIS leafblower. He starts blowing, and is done in 5 minutes. Meanwhile...me, still raking. I think he's snickering at me, but I can't hear him over his leafblower!! Help a girl out!

Okay. I would love to win for selfish reasons. My husband waits until all the leaves have fallen off of our trees before he will start raking. By this time it is always soooooo cold outside and some how my husband always ends up dragging me outside to help. Winning this would make things go a lot faster and save my hands from raking. Thanks for the chance! rubycakesgirl (at) gmail (dot) com

I'd like to win it so I can blow the leaves into my neighbor's yard. Wait, I guess I'm not supposed to say that out loud. Okay, because I would like to give my 16-year-old more work to do in the yard. Is that better?? :)

Awesome giveaway. Thank you so much!

I'd love to win this because the leaves where I live defy the laws of nature! There seem to be WAY more leaves than could possibly exist on the trees we have, and raking them is a losing battle. This prize would literally change my life, at least in the fall! Thank you.

Gloria's Bits and Pieces said...

I'd love to win because we have so many trees and no leaf blower. My husband really likes trees and thinks they will just blow away in our field beside. Well, they don't blow away and we have to rake and it's no fun, LOL! What a great giveaway!

I would love to win because we have two acres of woods on our property and we're already COVERED in leaves. I don't know if my back, knees and hands can take another year of raking. Thanks for the chance and keep up the great work on the blog. I just love it.

You two rock! I'd love the leaf-blower b/c my hubby is always on the go, working or helping anyone who needs it. It's part of him that makes me love him even more, but also sometimes leaves me alone to do the yardwork. A leaf-blower would ease the time it takes so I can play with the kids!

Yesterday my husband said, "I think it's time to get a leaf blower." But I don't want to spend the money on it when there's more fun things to by - like decorative items for my kitchen once I finally finish painting my cabinets! But if we won a leaf blower, then we'd both be happy!!

Thanks for the chance!

Without fail, my garage fills with leaves at the beginning of fall. It would be so much easier to blow them out the door than sweep them.

I bought a leaf blower for $5 at a garage sale that sounds like a freight train, but only blows two leaves at a time! Could really use a good one!

Thank you for offering such a great giveaway and just in time for leaf season. We would love to win the leafblower because when we built the house 5 years ago, we made a big effort to keep as many trees as possible and even moved and changed the deck to keep the trees. They are Oak trees and we have acorns and leaves all over the deck and yard. If you choose us, we will be grateful and give the blower a great home!!!

Ok, here's the deal. I want to win this because both of my neighbors have the same lawn service. I don't. The as*ho*es at the service have decided that blowing the leaves onto my lawn is much easier than taking care of them. For the last 2 years, I deal with it and bag up 3 yards worth of leaves. I'm sick of it. I want to blow the leaves back to where they came from and let the people whose job it is to pick them up, pick them up! AAARGH!!!

I'm a pretty cool dude, so I'm sure my neighbors would derive some friends with leaf blowing benefits as well :-). Plus as a truly added Give & Get benefit of winning your killer leaf blower, I will produce a humorus, but grateful You Tube clip and give you props.

Finally, please let me win the leaf blower... and thank you for your consideration!

I would love to win the leaf blower as time is of the essence. With a three year old and working full time, yard work is not a priority. I could blow off all the oak leaves in now time. In NE FL, we have loves of "live oaks". Thanks!

Ooh. I live in AZ so not a lot leaves around here. My mother on the other hand has huge trees in her yard plus the tree that is by the street that seems to dump all its foliage on her yard :). the sheep are hopping over to her side of the yard to eat the leaves but if she had a blower she could just blow those leaves right over. Happy mom and happy sheep!

I (actually, my hubby) would love to win this. Less time doing yard work means more time with me and our little guy... making s'mores, building blocks, snuggling, playing hide and seek, all are much more fun ways to spend time than raking leaves. :)
