Guest Bathroom Reno - Day 13

Yay! It's Friday! Will you be watching your favorite college football team play tomorrow? Kevin and I are huge Auburn fans and will definitely be tuning in to the game against Georgia. Last weekend we actually got to go to the game in person courtesy of a friend of Kevin's brother, who let us use his tickets. We've been burning the midnight oil seven days a week around here lately so it was fun to have a day off!
Auburn is about an hour from Prattville, but it was a beautiful day, so the drive was great. Jordan Hare Stadium (which is actually pronounced "Jer-dan" Hare) holds almost 90,000 people and the surrounding parking lots hold approximately 1,800 cars. I'm kidding- but for real, we had to park over a mile from the stadium, and since I spend most of my days sitting at the computer, I am insanely out of shape. The day after the game I felt like spaghetti from the waist down.
Once we reached the stadium, and discovered that (of course) we were on the wrong side of it, we kept walking 'til we finally reached the entrance we were supposed to go in. But the cardio didn't stop there. Next, we climbed up nine concrete ramps (we didn't know we were allowed to take the elevator- there was an attendant in it and he intimidated us for some reason) and just before my heart pounded its way outside of my chest, we finally arrived at the top of the stadium.
Yeah. You heard me right.
I said the top.
And when I say, "the top", I mean the top.
As in, the nosebleed section.
As in, the place with the seats that are so steep it makes you feel weird.
As in, my feet are in line with the persons head in front of me and I feel like if I move I'm going to be magnetically sucked forward out of my seat.
As in, honey I don't know if I can physically force myself to sit here anymore because , at this point, I can literally feel my body at war with gravity- and gravity always wins.
As in, okay- now I'm not even watching the game because I'm concentrating on holding onto this seat for dear life and trying to figure out if I'm actually dizzy, or if it's all just in my head. ???

Here's a picture of my legs...

Okay, obviously I'm kidding. We didn't bring our camera to the game, but that photo sort of shows what I'm talking about. :-)

Before I spiraled myself into a full-blown panic attack, we decided to make the trip back down to a level that didn't mess with my equilibrium so much. We ended up finding a spot we could stand and watch the game from on one of the concrete walkways I previously mentioned. It was located more in the middle level of the stadium. Kevin liked it because he likes to jump up and down and pace while they're playing. :-)

And since they were winning by such a large margin, a lot of people left the game early- so we ended up sitting really close to the field for the entire 4th quarter. It was awesome! :-)

Anywho....enough about that. Let's talk about the guest bathroom!

Kevin primed the legs of the farmhouse table yesterday. He also added little casters at the bottom of each leg because we needed the table to be 2 inches higher than it was...

He didn't get a chance to work on the top, but a coat of wood conditioner and some water-proof sealer and it'll be good to go!

He started trimming out the sides of each built-in. You can click on the photos to see a closer view of each of them. I asked him to use 1"x3" pre-primed MDF boards and a few pieces of beadboard panelling to create some visual interest in the sink area.

Once it's all caulked, primed and painted, I think it's going to look fantastic!
I'm very proud of him for diving head first into this just because I told him I believed he could do it.

He's more talented than he will ever give himself credit for, but I look forward to spending my life trying to convince him just how extraordinary I think he is.

I'm not sure what he's got planned for today, but I look forward to documenting and sharing more photos and/or video footage here on our blog this weekend!

We've got an exciting giveaway planned for later this afternoon- so if you want to check it out, come back and visit us for all the details.

Happy Friday!

Im so excited for you two to be able to tackle this bathroom redo! If you are anything like me, the shabby purple digs were just nagging at the back of you head saying, "redo, redo, redo", and your "normal thoughts" were saying, "time and money". Wow, that was a lot of punctuation! Anywho, it will be fabulous like all of your other work. We too are college football fans, LSU, nonetheless. However, we will be visiting (aka eating turhey) with my family in Mobile during the Auburn/Alabama Game.

Oh, I so feel your pain about the nosebleed section. We went to see a baseball game years ago and had the same type of seats - top row. But to make matters worse, it had rained that day so the stairs were wet and we didn't make it all the way up to our seats when they started the anthem. We had to stop on the STAIRS - I was terrified and had my arm hooked around the banister waiting to fall. I hated that game!

I'm really enjoying watching your house transformations. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us! The two of you are just too cute for words.

Oh Layla, I laughed so hard I almost.... well, you know. I totally understand the "any minute now I'm certain to plunge to my death" feeling. It's nice to know I'm not alone. My husband thinks it's quite hilarious that I'm still panicked even after being seated. Take a look around too, why is it that everyone else looks to be just fine?

Anyways, I love your blog. I love your house, your smile, your humor and even your hubby sounds like a great guy. Thanks for bringing me a little inspiration, a little joy and a little "escape" from the everyday. I looked forward to each and every blog. Thank You!

Layla ..... Glad those aren't your legs :-))

The bathroom is looking wonderful. I love the panelling on the side walls ... can't wait for your update.

Ha! I know how you feel about those seats at the game. The difference being I would have immediately fainted and tumbled head-first over the heads of everyone below me. Clean-up crew would have had to scrape me up with the discarded popcorn later. I am a sniveling coward when it comes to heights. Have a good weekend!

Can I just tell you that you were one of the first blogs I ever read and you're still my favorite! You guys are so cute and I love watching your videos (especially without that sound...that's what you get when you watch them at work!). Love that you aren't "too cool" and sometimes even act silly! You're fabulous. Wish I could afford to fly you out to come decorate our new house (first one too!). Let's be best friends :)

I had the same thing that happened to you, happen to me at a concert. I really felt like I was going to fall out of my seat!! What was worse, we were in the middle of the row. I got up once to calm myself down in the restroom and I thought the people I had to squezze by in the row were going to kill me!! Since then, I do not go to sports arena unless we have fantastic seats!!

Your bathroom is looking fabulous. Can't wait to see it completed. Have a great weekend!!

I hate that nosebleed section at Auburn and cannot sit there EVER again!

Can't wait to see the bathroom re-do. I want to replace my double vanity with an old sideboard turned vanity but I need to rent Kevin first!

I appreciate and am encouraged by your open admiration for your husband. It seems like lately I've seen a lot of the opposite.

I really like the way your bathroom is shaping up!

Oh my goodness!! I cannot tell you how much I relate to your stadium experience. A few years ago my hub and I attended the Miss. State vs. Florida game at Starkville.. We were given tickets cause our son was a cheerleader at MSU. Our seats were identical to yours.. I am deathly afraid of heights.. I could never bring myself to sit.. We ended up standing for the entire game on a ramp similar to yours.. As it turned out MSU won that day so it was not all for naught... Love love your blog!!!

The best luck I ever had a football game was making friends with some UCLA alumni at a UCLA-Notre Dame game. Yep, I'm a Notre Dame fan (parents went there and my college...Seton Hall....doesn't have football), but UCLA fans are just SO nice. They fed us free drinks all day and when it was time to head into the stadium, the let me and my boyf. use their extra tickets. That meant we ended up sitting just a few rows back from the benches, rather than in the Notre Dame fan section (which would have been farther away since we were in California). Turned out it was ND's first win of the year (and one of the only that season) but the UCLA fans didn't even care when I burst into the ND fight song at the end of the game. College football is the best- I love the camaraderie even among rivals.

Love the wheels on that table. Enjoy your football tomorrow, you guys deserve it!

Hey girl...I knew we had something in common...WAR EAGLE!!! I'm a huge Auburn too...I went oldest daughter graduated in May...youngest daughter is a sophomore there now (lucky her...she will be at the game tomorrow night). We go to most of the home games and will be there for the Iron Bowl in two weeks...spending Thanksgiving in Auburn for the first time...we need to be there early to be sure to get our tailgate spot. I always love reading about what you are doing in your home...that farm table idea is soooo awesome!

This is so funny... yesterday we were in the car on our way to Ikea in Burbank to purchase and Ektorp sofa and my son, 9, who is a huge sports nut, asked me what state Auburn is in..he's know the school that is blue and orange. Well, I was so excited that I knew this one (well at least I hope I told him the right answer)...but I said Alabama.. Anyway, I thought it was funny that I had just read your blog about Auburn and he asked me that hours later.
