Flea Market Finds

Yesterday, my friend Sarah and I hit up two local flea markets.
It's so amazing to me what treasures these places can hold.

Take a look...

RUSTIC PINE WINE CABINET- $89.00

BLUE AND GREEN DROP-LEAF TABLE- $35.00

DAISY GLASS SET - $14.99

I would paint the metal carrier white and the wooden handle green, or yellow.
It would look great in a place like this:

DOUBLE LAMP = $42.00

The price was a little high, but the patina is priceless. I would switch out the shades with a tiny dusty green and white gingham fabric, and use it in a nursery. Or wrap cotton eyelet lace trim around it, from top to bottom, for a shabby chic look.

WOODEN CRIB - $35.00

The color is what initially drew me over to check out this darling little crib, and with a price of $35.00, how could you go wrong! It would look charming in a nursery like this:

BAMBOO ETAGERE- $24.99

Here is one that was purchased at a flea market and painted green:

It was in the Living Room in last years HGTV Green Home.

And here is one HGTV used in the 2008 Dream Home:

BUFFET - $199.00

Imagine the potential! It could be painted, or left as in...it's in beautiful condition, and is solid wood. The size of it is amazing. It's probably three feet tall by six or seven feet long. You'd be hard pressed to find something like this for two hundred dollars, new.

METAL GREEN GINGHAM CHALKBOARD - $13.00

I loved that it had a little rod across the bottom. You could hang colorful or galvanized little tin buckets from it to hold chalk and erasers, or vintage tea towels that coordinate with your space.

CHRISTMAS TREE - $9.99

This tree is about three feet tall, and is pre-lit. So I thought it was a good deal for the low price. Imagine it sitting in a chippy garden urn, covered in white, pencil starfish and little glass floats...

My O.C.D. would only allow me to pick ONE color of the glass floats, of course...probably the the light or dark blue, so I could put it in here-

WINE CORK WREATH - $12.00

I love that it's neutral-colored and simple. No bow, no nothing. Just words printed on a natural material....perfection!

GIANT WICKER BASKET - $100.00

This basket is HUGE! I'm talkin' four feet wide by two and a half feet tall by two and a half feet deep. GIGANTIC! Can you imagine what it looked like BEFORE it was painted dark green? I bet it was GORGEOUS! I would paint it another color, probably khaki, and stencil letters and numbers (in black) on the front of it, like this:

FOLDING SCREEN - $85.00

I love the thought of this screen painted, and distressed. It's big, but doesn't feel heavy because of all the little intricate design work that would let light stream through. Can you imagine the gorgeous shadows this piece would cast?

RUSTIC WOOD WALL SHELF - $12.95

You bet your bottom dollar this guy came home with me. I'm planning on putting it in our Master Bath, so I'll display apothecary jars filled with cotton balls, soaps, shells and sea sponges, etc. on the shelf.

WALL BASKET - $3.00

I've been eyeing this little basket for a while, and when I saw that its price had been lowered to $3.00, I just HAD to scoop it up. :-)
It would work great as a magazine holder, in a Bathroom, or it could hold todays mail in a Mudroom, until you have a chance to look through it.

These are only SOME of the goodies I photographed, I'll do another post tomorrow with the rest!

I hope I have inspired you to remember to visit your local flea markets.
If you're decorating on a budget, or just want to fill your home with pieces that have character- make sure to rummage through a few flea markets before you hit the department stores! :-)

I love going to the flea market. I'm sad that they're over for the year, but I'll be looking forward to them again in the upcoming spring!

You came across some delightful finds.

I must mention that that although charming the green crib is a death trap and should never be used for a real life baby . If you want a vintage look you will need to find a recently made to look vintage crib .
Wonderful finds though .

Your post was good timing for me. I just discovered a consignment shop a couple of weeks ago in my area. Found the cutest night stand and painted it black. I posted about it on my blog.
You found some great pieces, unfortunately I think I found the best piece my consignment shop had to offer, but thanks for the inspiration. I'm going to have to dig a little further.

Flea Markets are the best! I feel there is never a need to shop retail. I go every week and love it!!! You can do that in California, rain or shine.

I love your finds & how you see them in a space.

The crib is adorable, but completely unsafe for use for an actual baby. You might be able to make it into a little loveseat or re-purpose it otherwise.

I posted a tutorial on how to make cork wreaths on my blog a few months ago: http://vintagepretties.typepad.com/vintage_pretties/2008/05/cork-wreath-tut.html

The best part is collecting the corks :)

Phenomenal finds, but I must reiterate as others have already said... the crib would be UNSAFE for actual use in a nursery. Perhaps at a baby boutique as part of a display or repurposed for some other function/decorative purpose.

It's probably only well know to moms and moms-to-be that older/vintage cribs were built BEFORE safety regulations came about, the most recent of which was in the 90s. It would be cute as a place to store stuffed animals, but not to let a baby sleep in...

That's funny that I read this this morning, because I am headed to J & G's today. What other flea market did you go to?
