Dear Layla-
Your Reading Room with its horizontal stripes inspired me!
My husband and I currently on the waiting list to adopt a baby.
It has been a long journey and much like most of life, where we started is not where we ended up. After the realization that I could not do a traditional blue or pink room because uncertainty of the of domestic adoption, I set out to create a neutral room.
When I saw the stripes in your Reading Room, I thought "this is it"!
I've attached a few pictures of the finished product. It was hard to give the dream up of blue and pink, but we absolutely love this room. We did the moulding and painting ourselves, and feel like it's such a soothing room. We know that one day God will bless us with a sweet baby to bring home to this perfect room!
Thanks for sharing your gift, your creativity, your inspiration, and your heart!

Ohhh, I love this nursery! If Emily who's nursery this is reads this comment, you'll have to visit my blog too. Our daughter is adopted and we too did her first nursery where it would work for a boy or girl (except we used aqua blue) Best wishes to you! I know how you feel...the waiting is the hardest part but soo worth it in the end. Thanks Layla for sharing! :)
I know God will bless this couple....and what a joy it will be when HIS will is fulfilled. I pray for that day to come soonest. The room is darling....and what a lucky child to be surrounded by such love. XXX Annie
i love that. what a great nursery.
what a sweet, sweet room!! love the words on the wall, love love love the old diaper pin. I'd love to be a prayer warrior for them :) tell them Prattville is sending praying!
Great nursery. I hope everything works out for the adoption. That crib looks perfect!
Gorgeous! I love the quote on the wall, so heartfelt and special. This is a beautiful, peaceful space to bring home a baby.
Great Job!! I love the GINORMOUS diaper pin on the wall...where did she find that thing?! And the rocker/ottoman are great!! Their baby will certainly be blessed! <><
Hugs,
Tanya
Okay I'm officially freaked out that this person has the exact same taste as me. We don't even have kids yet but my one day dream for a nursery was tan and cream stripes, wood paneling on bottom, and black furniture.
Beautiful nursery! Praying the wait is soon over and your baby will be in your arms (and family) very soon.

The nursery is so beautiful. The baby that is to call it home will be so blessed. I pray that a child comes quickly for Emily and her husband. I, also, love the giant diaper pin. I only wish that we could see a close up of the words on the wall behind the crib.
i don't think that nursery needs pink or blue.. it's PERFECT the way it is!! i saw an episode w/ sarah brown's show about 2 yrs ago, where she did a neutral nursery, and was so bummed that i never thought of that! [had the typical baby colors in all of mine] anyway, thanks for sharing this lovely room!! OH- and if there's one thing, besides the bundle of joy, that could put the finishing touch.. Kim, over at Small Words, makes beautiful baby name artwork! check her out @ http://www.shopsmallwords.com/
many blessings to the mom & dad to be!!
Oh my gosh, it's soooooooooo beautiful! And, with that color scheme you can tweak it to accomodate life from birth 'til college! Every detail is perfect. Are you an interior designer?
Wow! One of the most incredible nurseries I have seen! I would not be sad to give up pink or blue with that gorgeous nursery! I LOVE it! Great ideas. I need to have another baby! : )

I love soothing neutral nurseries best. Not too themed out. this one looks perfect. :)
Two of my favorite things - pretty rooms and adoption! I tend to feel like "gender neutral" rooms rarely actually look neutral, but this one is perfect! One of the best I've seen. Fantastic job! LOVE that diaper pin and the custom molding!
This is BEAUTIFUL!
Best wishes and God's blessings on that family....oh yes, and what an ADORABLE nursery!!!!
That has got to be one of the sweetest nursery I have ever seen!

What a beautiful room. I cant wait to hear more about the adoption process, and when you guys will be bringing home a little one.
I'm Emily's mom...Gramme in waiting...for the adopted baby. Of course, we too, LOVE the soothing room. Your comments have brought so much encouragement to our hearts. It is truly exciting to see so many comments from families who have "made it" through the adoption process with all of its uncertainties. We are all looking forward to our sweet baby who will soon be in our arms and sleep in its sweet new room!! Thank you so much for the encouragement.

Hi, just had to stop by to leave you a comment and say what a wonderful blog you have here. So much to read about - fabulously creative & interesting posts and what's more you have fantastic pictures too. Thank you for sharing them all and best wishes - enjoy the rest of the weekend....
This has GOT to be one of the best nurseries I have ever seen. Prayers to you as you wait, and thanks Layla for sharing.
That room is amazing! I got tears in my eyes knowing exactly how they feel waiting.... Best wishes!
so cute and a nice "neutral" without lots of green and yellow. I love how they put up a picture of themselves on the wall! So the baby can look and see Mommy and Daddy. God bless as they seek to adopt!
Wow, what a beautiful room!
Emily,
My husband and I found out about 3 weeks ago that we were selected to adopt a baby boy. He is to be born in October, and we will take him home from the hospital. Right now we are hurrying to get everything done, and I am very inspired by your nursery. Love it!
Sincerely,
Danelle
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful room!
Ahhh, I have a large bamboo safety pin like that also. That brings my current inventory of things also seen on this site to 3 - the caned wing chairs (we have 2), the Pottery Barn Kristine pillow covers (got at the outlet for $1.99 each, thankyouverymuch), and now the safety pin! Ha! I never knew I was so "trendy" until I started looking around your site! Except you guys work them into a room much better than we do!
Thanks for all you share!
Emily, what a great nursery and as your son or daughter grows it will easily be adaptable from toddler to teen. I'm praying that the adoption process speeds up and your happy handful will be in your lives before you know it!
Layla, keep on bringing these fresh, REAL LIFE, designs!

I SO want to do this. It is stunning.
that's really cool! So great to be able to inspire someone like that and that room turned out amazing!
This is a BEAUTIFUL nursery! I love that she used neutrals rather than the gender typical yellow or mint green. We are in the process of surrogacy and so I know the wait seems long as we have been there for 9yrs. I wish them all the best!
That is seriously the most adorable babies room I have EVER seen! :) Great job!!

Best wishes & I hope your dreams come true soon!
This is so beautiful!! and it would be nothing to add some light pink or light blue accessories to it when they do receive there baby, and look fabulous!! It is so soothing, just what you need at 2:00 a.m and 3:00 a.m :)
What a great room, so pretty! it is great to see people design out of the box of pink and blue for a baby room. bravo! Dd
