Cottage Kitty

I've been hearing lots of tiny meows, outside my office window, for a couple of days now. At night, the meowing really seemed to pick up- which made me feel like whatever was doing it was afraid of the dark.
:-(

Turns out my neighbor, Jessica, at the Half Note Cottage has been hearing it too. This morning I set a bowl of food out where I thought it was coming from, and later in the day Jessica set out a bowl of water right next to my bowl of food. Tonight around supper time, I grabbed my video camera because I finally spotted where the meowing was coming from. Watch this video and be prepared to get the warm fuzzies...

...and, of course, I brought him in the house within two hours of filming the video. He's currently much more tame, and is nestled in an old blanket in our laundry room. (I couldn't bear to hear him crying outside another night!) :-(
I covered an old cookie sheet with aluminum foil and poured a generous amount of kitty litter onto it. I'm hoping he just instinctively knows "what's up" with that. :-)

I'll have to put him back outside tomorrow, but I'm hoping he decides to call our back porch "home". I would love can have an outside kitty- just like back in the day, on the farm in Minnesota. He's definitely going to need a name. Any ideas?

Don't give the kitten any milk... it will cause stomach problems and that is bad. Water and kitty food is best. :)

He is adorable!

Layla,
I hope this little guy finds a permanent home with you...I can't imagine how someone could let such a tiny little one fend for himself in this big world. I have taken in 7 strays and even though it is a lot of work and expense the payoffs are amazing. They truly give so much love back. Animals do not get the respect they trult deserve....

Very sweet, hope he doesn't cry all night!

Oh. For. Cute.
I'm sure my 2 little girls could come up with one great name for him. Is it a boy? I'm assuming it is but I tend to call all animals she, and wasn't sure if you did the same as He.
Good to see I'm not the only one that tries to tame the wild. (P.S. I totally know what you're sayin about the farms... I'm a WI country girl at heart, and we live just far enough out of the city where it IS possible :).. now you've got me all excited.

oh my gosh. that kitten is so beautiful! look at his little blue eyes! oh my gosh. ok, the first thing i thought of was "squirt." but generally i like to give animals "people" names, so my next thought was "zack." i have no idea why, that's just what i thought of. weird.

Oh my goodness, what a little sweetheart! My dad just had a tiny kitten stumble into his life too. I think it's cool that you decided to take care of this little guy and keep it as an outside kitty. Enjoy the new pet!

Such a cutie! I hope he sticks around. You're so lucky he is so friendly, we have lots of wild cats that roam the area where we live but they won't let us anywhere near them so we set out food every now and then when they stop by and have water sitting out for them. Its sad to see so many without homes!

That was the cutest darn video. How fun to have a little kitten, You can really tell how small it was when your hand was near her. Is it a girl or boy? I am always afraid of fleas with outside kittens. Well my daughter came up with a few cute names.
Cookie
Pinky Pie
Butterscotch
Lucy
Ring Ding
have fun with her

To cute. I wish my husband wasn't so allergic or we'd have a kitty. You could call him LC, just a thought.

Cute little orphan boy? I'm thinking Oliver would be a great name. Anyway, he's adorable. Good luck.

What a sweetie kitten! I found myself 'baby talking' along with you...lol! And he's the perfect shade of gray! Since you're the Lettered Cottage, perhaps a 'lettered' name is in order..."Z", "C", "K", "C. C." (cottage cat), etc...

thanks for saving this kitten. I've been doing the same thing ever since I was a kid. I couldn't bear another night to hear a kitten crying. thanks!

Madison and I just finished watching your video. We thought she loved you to bits back when...now that you saved a kitty she thinks you are way better than Barbie! You have a new "little" fan!

So cute! Keep your theme going and call him - LC - Lettered Cat or LK - Lettered Kitten!

I bet it's a female with those markings. I would name the kitten LC -- Lettered Cat! It's sweet of you to take ownership of the stray. Make sure it gets to the vet for al its shots and to be spayed/neutered to prevent future strays!

kristianne said...

Ohhhh... Layla, you KNOW you want to keep the kitty. Is Mr. LC allergic or just not a fan of the kitties? Because there's shots for one and doe eyes for the other! That little guy's way to cute and cuddly and little to be outside all alone!

So, I love "Oliver" as suggested in your comments, but also as someone suggested, I was thinking he needed a "letter" name. "OK" - our kitty?

Awww, that is just the cutest thing!!! I love your little kitty voice, lol. My boyfriend always makes fun of my kitty and puppy voice. He/she's a keeper. :)

Socks...or Boots...with those long white legs!

Some cats are fine with milk. We had one that was and one that wasn't...it's a lactose thing.

He's adorable. I wouldn't be able to resist either!

You are so sweet to take care of him! Can't wait for an update. He seems really affectionate for a stray kitten. I like the suggestions LC or Oliver the best. :)

I have just had to play this video about 12 times because my 2 year old daughter wanted to see the "Cute, baby kitty" (as she calls it). Poor little thing. Good job on the rescue! -Kelsee

So precious!!!
You can clip is claws to keep your furniture safe. Since he is so little, just use regular nail clippers to snip off the sharp point. I did it with my cat until he was grown, and he never needed to be de-clawed and my furniture wasn't shredded!

Cute! Name him Percy.

Awww. Sweet video and glad you took him/her in...He/she is a brown classic tabby and white coloration and cute little white tip on his/her tail...could be Tippy. Or LC could stand for Little Cat.

Sad to think of where his mom and siblings might be, he looks to be about 6 weeks old maybe and a little too young to leave mom. Maybe she had them under the deck and moved them and left him behind?

A really good kitten food is Royal Canin Babycat as it has very small kibble and is very tasty. Yes, Cows milk has sugars in it and can cause diarrhea in cats. He is past the age of absolutely needing milk but there is a cat milk called KMR which is good. Also, one of the canned kitten foods (they are like pate so easy to add water to and make it easy to lap up) like Purina ProPlan, IAMS, Wellness etc is good to add to his/her menu, just stay with the poultry varieties and not beef or fish for now.

After he/she settles in...be sure you take him/her to the vet for an exam and tests and deworming as he is a foundling. Also, if he has fleas, you will want to treat for that as they can get anemic from fleas and get tapeworms from them, too.

Oh, what a sweet kitty!
Please make him an indoor kitty or try to find a home for him. He is too young/small to fend for himself outside, even with the food, etc. that you guys are kind enough to provide. The thought of him being so scared by himself out there at night just breaks my heart. Also, I worry what if he wanders out on that somewhat busy street or the thought of a dog, owl or hawk getting at him....:-(
If you can't find a home for him, bring him to a shelter while he is small. Kittens are adopted quickly at shelters.

Good Luck! Thank you for caring about this sweet kitty.

Blessings, Tracy

The yawning! The stretching! The rolling and pawing and hopping through the leaves! Is there anything in the world cuter than a tiny kitty? It makes my heart ache!!

I think you should call him "Frank" - for ol' blue eyes himself. Plus y'all are music buffs, so he'd fit right in! I'm not a "cat person" but am however an animal person and can appreciate a cute, sweet kitty when I see one!
