Dusk at Doodlebug

It's Happy Hour and I'm sitting on a white wicker settee inside the screened-in porch at a cottage called "Doodlebug".

It's topped with a lime green, leopard print cushion...

The view of the marsh in front of the cottage is like something straight out of a "Bellamy"...

The air is heavy, and moist- but it smells incredibly fresh.

Makes me wanna take deep breaths...

Clear my mind...

Connect with God.

(I just heard thunder in the distance)

Photobucket

I've got my feet propped up on the coffee table in front of me...

Photobucket

I can feel a blister between my pinky toe and the toe next to it.

Must have walked too much today.

(Is there such a thing as walking "too much"?)

Photobucket

There's a big, black bird sitting on one of the curled up boards on the dock in front of the house.

I wonder if he was born on Tybee?

I like to think he was.

I like to think he knows just how magical his surroundings are.

I like to think he knows just how lucky he is that he can safely land on something that most humans would be too scared to walk on.

And I like to think he landed there because he wanted to watch the sun set beyond the marsh...just like me.

(Except he wanted a front row seat!)

It sounds as if you are in a very good place right now, and I'm not talking about the physical you...

Enjoy yourself, Layla, you have earned it.

Happy Monday Layla.
There is nothing better than hands that become stiff from too much painting, feets that have blisters from too walking, backs that ache from furniture moving or a screened in porch filled with moments of peace for thanking God for being able to do all those things.
You deserve every lovely moment. geri.

Nothing like putting your feet up after a hard days work! Take a break and breath for a while! It looks like a great spot to just empty the mind and let the blister heal! :) Take care!

Now that is just a piece of Heaven and I like to think the sound in the background was the ocean!!! Thanks for sharing and loving all your blogs on the house you are redoing. I helped my sister in IN redecorate her bathroom and I was in GA> She texted me about a color and I went crazy and I like to think you inspired me!!! I sent her pics of your kitchen to inspire she and her hubby in the redo of theirs!!

Looks like pure heaven for sure. I know you have a lot of hard work ahead of you, but I still envy you for the "at one with nature" surroundings you are so lucky to be a part of right now.

This post makes me miss northern Michigan. I grew up on a lake up there... and it's absolute paradise in the summers.

Such a thoughtful post! :)

I wish I was in a place as peaceful as this right now... but I've had to put my hoodlums into three timeouts in the past 15 minutes. Peace is a five letter word around these here parts.

And I have no idea what I mean by that.

I'm done living vicariously thru you--now I'm just jealous! ;) Sounds divine. You described that Tybee feeling perfectly. How I miss it there! Going in Sept, but thought about dropping in on you!

Have you made happy acquaintance with the sand gnats yet? That's the only downside to our little slice of heaven! Bellamy is as amazing a person as she is an artist--I hope that you have the opportunity to meet her; you'll love her! Check out The Gray Horse on the Isle of Hope (now called Sweet Tea, I think) Lisa, the owner, carries her work and is good friends with Bellamy. Bellamy's in and out of the store fairly often and I'm sure Lisa would be happy to introduce you. One Fish Two Fish also carries her work--that's a store you'd also love, I believe.

Enjoy this little corner of the world--happy to have you!

Heaven on the curled up boards of a southern dock. I'm sure there is a song in that.

Thanks for the link to the artwork. I'm going to be in that area in a couple of weeks and wanted to buy some art. I'm going to check into Belamy's work.

This reminds me of times on vacation when I would get up before the family with my coffee and a bible or journal and just sit in the stillness outside and take in the beauty of God's creation. Enjoy it! :)

Hi Layla and Kevin,
My parents live on Tybee Island (where I grew up) and I've stayed at the Doodle Bug before....I'm going to tell my Mom about your open house at the "Screened Porch" this coming Sat. She'll get to meet you (for me). I'll be there, on Tybee, 4th of July week for our 'very large' annual family reunion... so I'll be sure to drive to Fort Screven to check out your masterpiece!!!
