Guest My Nest - Tybee Island (Sneak Peek!)

I'd like to introduce an upcoming nest we'll be guesting sometime this Spring.
Meet "Just Beachy"...

It's a 2-story, single family home that sits on Tybee Island, just off the coast of Georgia near Savannah.

Owners Jimmy and Laurie invited us to come check it out, and of course we were ECSTATIC about their offer!

I've been dreaming about visiting Tybee Island ever since I met author, Mary Kay Andrews. She also has a house on Tybee she calls, "Breeze Inn"...

Check out some of Jimmy and Laurie's "before and after" shots:

Here's the kitchen before...

...and here it is after!

And here's the upstairs den before...

...and here it is after!

Looks like a pretty fun place to stay, eh?

:-)

You can see more photos of the house (and inquire about reservations) HERE, and Laurie and Jimmy's personal website is located
HERE

I look forward to writing a more in depth "Guest My Nest" post about our experience in the house, and on the island, after our trip.
(And of course we'll shoot lots of photos and video while we're there too!)

In the meantime, if you've been to Tybee Island, I'd love it if you'd leave us a comment about your experience there!

Happy Wednesday,
Layla

:-)

DEFINITELY hit up the Crab Shack, it's about halfway between Savannah and Tybee. My sister goes to SCAD and it's a favorite of ours. Order the platter- it's just a whole mess of shellfish, corn on the cob, and potatoes you get to dig through. Mmmmm. Ok, it's 6:44 am and I am officially craving crawfish.

OH and if you make it into Savannah you must go to Paris Market on Broughton, you will just die and want to take everything home with you.

We love Tybee Island for family vacations! This will be our fifth summer visiting. One of my favorite things to do on the island is ride bikes. It is so safe that even my kids can ride! It is one of the few times during the year that we can all ride as we live in an area not conducive to bike riding. I think you will love your trip and can't wait to read your posts about it! Have fun!

What a great place to spend a vacation. It looks like you've already been in & decorated the place up for your stay.
Can't wait to see more.

Have a wonderful time!

Okay we LOVE Tybee! Adore it! And I have to second everything that Mrs. Prepperoni said. On our first trip to Savannah, we ate at the Crab Shack 2 nights of the trip. And Paris Market is wonderful. There are so many cute shops in Savannah, but you want to hear about Tybee, right. Well, we just relaxed on the beach, but I think there is a certain time of year when the sea turtles lay their eggs there. And, I also think that you can collect alot of sand dollars (as long as they aren't living.) Unfortunately, we didn't see any on our trip. There is also a cute lighthouse. Can you tell I am excited for you? Have fun!

Cool place indeed! I'm so glad you'll get to go experience a place you've always wanted to go. :)
Oh, by the way, you HAVE to come see my blog now, MUCH prettier!

My brother and his family live in Savannah. We visited them a few years ago and went to Tybee Island. I love the ocean and dream of one day living near it. I could definitely live on Tybee Island! Unfortunately, I'm stuck in Iowa, have been buried under snow all winter and now have ice dams that are causing water to leak down my kitchen walls. I did say I wanted to renovate the kitchen this year. Just not under these conditions. Tybee Island sounds like heaven right now!

You're going to adore Tybee. You need to try Mrs. Wilkes in Savannah while you're there. And the Pirates house has great food too. Email me if you want more info on anything. But, back to Tybee :), it's wonderful!! You have to "hike" to the Cockspur lighthouse--you'd love it & your pictures would be awesome!

Never been to Tybee island, but I do know that it's near Savannah, and you can't go wrong being close to that place! Enjoy the trip! I hope to go there for Easter.

Oh, I almost forgot! We like the Crab Shack too--great atmosphere, but I personally think there are better seafood options/offerings on the Island. Try MacElwees right at the bend on 80. Or AJ's Dockside--amazing sunsets. Spanky's on the beach is good for chicken & potato wedge carry out. Definitly just get out and poke around the island. SO many beautiful homes to find. I can't wait to hear about your trip!

We spent a wonderful vacation on Tybee Island with our kids last April and stayed at a little cottage on the far south end of the island by the inlet. Sometimes the main beach can be very crowded so head toward the inlet end. The tides are amazing and the sunsets divine from that area where the ocean comes in to meet the tidal flats. The Crab Shack was kind of funky, kitchy with outdoor eating, but for a real treat walk or bike to A.J.’s Dockside Restaurant. They have the very best sunset views and dolphins come and swim around the pilings on the outdoor deck. If you like the outdoors, plan to go on a kayaking tour of the islands and salt marshes. It should be fabulous! One a house note - I love their floors and I am interested in putting in hardwood like that in our home. Any chance you could find out their source or brand details? Thanks!

I love this area and think you will too, I am a GA girl so I may not be fair. Hubby and I vacationed here last year and it was great, nice slow place. We love to eat so I can give you some ideas for that. I HIGHLY recommend
http://www.chefjoerandall.com/ He has a cooking school and you sit around a u shaped counter and watch him and his wife cook and then you get to eat all the food. It is very informative, and funny.
He and his wife are very inviting and entertaining. Then there is Paula Dean's and her brother's Uncle Bubba's. If you want more info on Chef Joe Randell email me. I can fill you in with more details.

Lovely! We honeymooned in Savannah and went out to Tybee for a few days, too. It's such a great little beach town. I second the Crab Shack recomendation. We went in November, so it was a little cold, but we had a blast!

We ate at the Hunter House and it is the best meal I have ever had in my life! You have to eat there.

I love Tybee! We're looking for somewhere to have all of our family gather for Thanksgiving. And, "Just Beachy" looks like it would be a good fit for us! I'd be very interesting in hearing how the kitchen measures up! If they have an oven large enough to cook a turkey and fixings. If there is room for several cooks in the kitchen!

What a beautiful home! Tybee Island is on my list of places to visit some day - I stumbled across it when looking at places I'd love to live (somewhere south). Thanks for sharing. Their before/afters are amazing!

I used to live there and boy, do I miss it! The road to Tybee is a dream (US-80 over the marsh and onto the island). Drive it at sunset! And if you are a runner/jogger/walker there is a wonderful, flat (of course) trail that crosses this marsh (McQueen's Island Historic Trail). I once saw a shrimp boat at sunset with all it's lights aglow while running that trail. :) Aaah, so homesick!

WE LOVE TYBEE, and to second a prior comment (Mrs. Prepperoni)definately hit up THE CRAB SHACK, and it is a shack, that sits on the water, so amazing. and yes the platter is awesome, along with enough for ten people.

How beautiful! Never been to Tybee Island but love Savannah! We've been vacationing up the road in Isle of Palms (Charleston) SC.

Before heading to Tybee, you may want to check out Miley Cyrus and Greg Kinnear's new movie. The Last Song is filmed in Tybee Island. I don't know when it comes out but we saw the previews this weekend and immediately recognized the lowcountry. The scenes from the ocean and beach cottage are enough for me.

Happy trails! Lisa

Tybee Island is very special. The lighthouse is a must see, along with the museum. A quaint, laid back atmosphere that isn't stuffy in the least. Savannah is a dream for shopping and architecture and history. Love it all! Hope you have time to see much of the island and learn the history while you are there. Lots of fun eating for sure!

A fabulous update to their home, does the island proud.

I stumbled upon Tybee Island a few years ago when a cousin relocated there from Calgary. I was mezmerized the moment I got onto the island. It's peaceful, quaint and beautiful.
The inlet is the best place for dolphin watching. Be sure to visit the lighthouse and take a long walk along the beach. Then drive around and oogle at the gorgeous homes.
I can't wait to go back again.

We visited Tybee Island one very windy day two summers ago. We'd been in Florida on holiday but drove up to Savannah because of a hurricane. There is a lovely old lighthouse on the island which is well worth a visit. The day we went up it was very windy - it's a wonder we were not blown off :) - but the views were beautiful and we got some great photos. It's a lovely place.

I have been to Savannah, but not Tybee. Tybee is where they filmed the new Nicholas Spark's movie, The Last Song. It is due out this spring and features Miley Cyrus. You will love the area. It is so beautiful there. Cute cottage. Love & blessings from NC!

OH, your blog and house are just great... been following you from just after christmas!

Tybee Island is just the best, my family stayed there twice, before and after my son's deployments. It is just the best, laid back beachy, beach town I've been in. I concur with AJ Dock of the Bay, the beach is great, there is an awesome pier and enough fun shops, but do check out Seasides Sisters right on 80 before you get into town... right up your alley. We had a girl's night out and rocked the town at the famous Doc's Bar.

And you must take the time on the way in or out to go to the Paris Market too, just the coolest place!
and another super neat little shop is called @home: http://www.vintagegeneral.com/
just down the street on broughton

Get some bikes for sure, sunrises and sunsets are beautiful. Wow wish I was going back soon... your friends' place is lovely so can't wait to read about your trip... you'll fall in love with tybee island

This is such an adorable little place, and the vision, I love what they did! Im sure it was a blast to renovate!
Originally, I had stumbled, completely accidentally, on Tybee Island from the "connsumate cottage redoer" Jane Coslick..I give her all the credit for us finding and getting our Coastal Nest waaay over here on the Pacific Coast.
A little cottage by the sea that needs a little/lota TLC (haha) can do wonders for your imagination, marriage, creative juices and pocket book, if you rent it out! Plus, you can own it for free because the renters pay for it..
Go find one!! You will not be dis satisfied by what a life changer it can be!
I wish I could stay there! It looks completely heavenly..report back to us, wont you??

Love Tybee!

You have to do the Crab Shack. Have to.

If you a prepared to and willing to wait, Paula Deen's is there. Uncle Bubba's is ok. Beautiful views while you eat make it worth it.

There's a little beach, more often used by locals, called the Back Bay I think it is...or is it Little Bay. Back Bay feels more right. I'll think on it. It's past the regular beach. A friend who lives there took us and I loved it. Small, quiet cove with calm water. Dolphins swam through while we were there which was completely awesome! He caught a stingray too which was cool.

Lots of pubs, just be careful of sketchy areas. The tours rock. I've done the general Savannah tour. I'd love to do the Ghost Tour too!
