Estate Sale Dresser

This darling dresser came from an estate sale just down the street.
I love it, except that it's knobless. (Is that a word?)
So, let me ask you all, what kind of knobs would YOU put on it?
There's two places for knobs in the skinny drawer on top, and two places for knobs on the big drawer on the bottom.

Perhaps add crystal knobs that would echo your nearby doorknob? And add a tall glass or crystal buffet lamp as well?

I recently changed some of our dresser hardware and used the glass reproduction school house knobs. They're nice, but might be a little large for your piece. I like the crystal knob idea. I've also painted knobs before when I found a shape I liked but wanted a different finish. It's a beautiful dresser...tons of character.

Yup. I was going to say crystal knobs as well. Well, I guess I AM saying crystal knobs. They would be perfect!

I was also gonna go with crystal...or RED. Also they have these great rusted looking knobs at hobby lobby I just saw today and loved, those would look perfect.

Hi,
I'm new here but coming out to comment on your fabulous dresser. It's in the perfect state of shabbiness (I think you would be crazy to mess with that perfect finish!)and I also believe that crystal knobs (they even have them at Target) would be perfect and a great juxtaposition against the peely paint finish. Your home is so great, BTW. Can't wait to see more pictures - very inspirational!

I just found your blog and LOVE it! It has been such a huge inspiration to me. I would go with the crystal knobs for sure.

What a terrific find! Originally I believe that came with glass knobs. (My sister has one very similar.)

We have an old dresser in my daughters room from that era and it has some old worn bronze (but black colored) knobs. They are smallish, but would be near impossible to find. Short of that I think a simple, fairly small glass knob would look good. Restoration hardware has one on sale right now: http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=39&navCount=2

The finish is wonderful, did you do that??

crystal or rust, either would sing! love love love it...good find

Regarding the finish-

1. It's perfection. I love it just the way it is, and wouldn't dream of changing it.

2. The lady who sold it to me is the one responsible for painting and distressing it. Wish I could take the credit, but not this time! :-)

I love that dresser. We had one very similar to it when we were kids. I wish we had of kept it. I would definitely put crystal kobs on it. Or you could even go with milk glass knobs. What ever you do I'm sure it's going to look fabulous.

Anthropologie has a great selection of knobs and pulls that would work well. They have painted ceramic, crystal, metal, etc.. Check out their website www.anthropologie.com.

My vote echoes the others - this dresser is calling out for some dainty glass knobs! It's a fab find.

Another vote for crystal :)

I think it would depend on whether or not I was going to repaint the dresser or leave it as is. I know if I repainted, I may want to go with a crystal or jadeite knob hardware, however, if you leave it like it is, would an antiqued brass look favorable? Glass knob? I know how you tend to stress over pulls (referring to kitchen), I know when you find the right "look" it will be great!

Layla strikes again! What a wonderful find. And I love it just the way it is too. I think I have to vote for crystal also or even a bronze tone would work. The crystal might show up better though, smaller on the small drawers & larger below.

What an awesome piece...the finish reminds me of a buffet that I have in my Great Room (sort of and, by the way, I posted pictures of that piece on my blog 5/30/08 if you're interested).

And to answer your question...crystal/glass knobs...definitely!

I'm so glad I found your site...I have enjoyed visiting.

I'm not advising :) as I just know whatever you decide will be exactly what needs to go on it! It's so utterly charming, Layla.

I agree with the majority...glass or crystal knobs would look wonderful!!

Can you please post a picture of your windows/blinds? I know there's a picture of part of the blinds but a bigger picture would be great. I'm having a blind dilemma and you have such good taste. Thanks!!

Hi Layla!
First of all, oh.my.gosh.!!!! What a beautiful dresser!!!!
Wonderful find! Nice job!!
Second, when I clicked to leave a comment, i was thinking... "simple clear glass knobs, so it doesn't detract from the beauty of the dresser, and will blend beautifully..." Then!!! Well...seems everyone else has the same idea!!! It seems great minds think alike!! :)

Chezza said...

I am not sure where you would even look but I am picturing hammered flat backs and then dangly 'doodads' for pulls. I am not even sure what you would call them.
