Dining Room Update - January 2009

Here's a litte ditty 'bout the Dining Room.

Newly installed beadboard panelling, that flows in from the Kitchen, to create a seamless, cottage look.
New wall color, that speaks to the countertop in the Kitchen, and creates a soothing coastal palette throughout the two rooms.

There are only two solid walls in the Dining Room, the other two have big, giant openings on them. The two solid walls always looked so FLAT to me. Nothin' but floor to ceiling drywall.
I love the addition of the new wall texture, and the visual interest it creates vertically. It will really get those eyeballs movin' on up, when the window is decked out, and the framed photography is hung by the homeowner with care. :-)

Check it out!

In the meantime, I'm off to blow my nose for the 1,398,458th time...cough, cough.

It's so hard to hear you with the music.

I love your videos Layla, but I want to see you being silly IN the video, not just at the end! Your personality always comes through at the end when you are laughing, bring it out MORE! Your videos are such an awesome part of your blog, don't try to be so serious!

Your bead board rocks. I want to do a tall farmhouse style treatment in my dining room, and I really want to paint the ceiling, but once I start it has to go into the kitchen as well. BIG JOB! You are lucky, your husband does the work, mine likes to supervise! PS- I didn't hear music... Looks awesome!

Hi Layla.... just found your blog... really cute video. It's so nice to have a hubby who is handy. My husband is very handy, but works all the time, so I end up hiring out! Will be watching for more updates of your cute cottage!

I like your sand and sea concept! Will we get to see a detail shot of the beadboard before and after paint? Is Kevin creating it or just(I hate to use the word just because I know its work)putting it up.

HI, Layla-

I love your design style... I'm currently living vicariously through your design b/c I have a 5 yr. old and a 5 week old who need some attention (no complaining here)... but I do long for the day when I can add some more touches to my house.

Cool idea with the beadboard!

I wondered if he had to take the window moulding off and then put it back on after adding the beadboard or did he cut around it?

And is he priming the beadboard first? Do you use any primer, like killz for that?

Sorry you're feeling bad. Love the soft color pallette!

Hey there!

I've received a couple of emails from readers who have had some tips on improving the quality and content of my video.

When my husband and I quit our jobs to pursue our dreams, we sold almost every piece of electronic equipment we owned, so that we could continue paying our bills.
That includes, our once fancy-schmancy, high-tech video camera.
What we have now, is a inexpensive model, that doesn't even have a functioning zoom button! :-)

Any videos I post here, are simply shot on the fly, unrehearsed and simply to document our renovation process. (It'll be neat to watch them in 50 years!) :-)

I hope the quality or "looseness" of them isn't a deal breaker.
I'm just doing these for fun!

Layla :-)
