Fully Alive

I'm sitting here beaming.

:-)

I have a friend named Lacey.
She sings for a band called Flyleaf.
We haven't talked in a while because their band has BLOWN UP and they are travelling around the globe doing their thang.
I couldn't be happier for them.
I remember when they were starving artists, touring around the U.S. in a 15-passenger van.
They attended church, every Sunday, in whichever city they happened to be in.
Their very first tour was with my husbands band.
They opened the show every night, and the kids just ate 'em up.
Lacey and I were the only girls on that tour, so we bonded.

Turns out she wrote a song about me, inspired by our time together and the things I shared with her.
Apparently it's done very well at radio. (No more starving...yay!)
And now they've released an acoustic version, which I just heard for the first time, today.

Here's an excerpt...

Quite possibly one of the most amazing things anyone has done for me...I am truly touched and feeling extra shiny today. :-)

My (sweaty) post-show hubby, me, Lacey and James after the last show on their tour together in Texas.

What a small world! My husband and I met her and her band when they were still named PasserBy in Dallas. One of my hubby's oldest friends (Kevin) used to record Lacey before she made it big. That's so awesome that this song was inspired by and written for you! Can't wait to tell Hubby!

Crazy that you know Lacey! I knew her back in the day, when she went through the "bad stuff", but have completely lost touch with her. I remember spending many nights on my knees praying for that girl! I'm so glad she's doing well!!! What a small world, and what an awesome answer to prayer!

Hey girl! before I forget, you looked way too cool getting your mail the other day as I was driving down Wetumpka, in your Ugg boots and jeans. You're such a natural beauty, Layla, and I googled Flyleaf and ye-uh, they had like 4.2 million hits! So awesome to be connected like that with someone and to have the life experiences you have! Not to mention that not only are you named after an awesome song, but to have one written ABOUT you as well. Congrats!!

What an honor, Layla :0) I second the notion that fame travels in packs.
You may not want to say, but I'm intrigued by this talk of your husbys band and I don't believe you have ever mentioned their band name :0) Is it hard being alone so much while he tours or have you both just grown used to it?

That is just too funny...one of my favorite songs is about one of my favorite bloggers. If that song wasn't jamming a little too loudly out of my laptop right now it might've been replaced with It's a Small World...thankfully it won't be.

Too cool. LOVE this version.

Hey Layla-

I must say I'm new to your site, but I've been simply enamered with your decorating style. It has inspired me to do a lil redecorating. You certainly have a God-given gift. You'll go far in this life.

I'm stunned to hear that the song I love happens to be about the same woman who has inspired me. Crazy. Flyleaf is awesome as well. I love Lacey's passion and unapologetic love for Christ.

And Kevin is from Trust Company? Too cool, I can't believe I didn't make the connection. Makes ya'll all the more endearing to me. What an adorable and special couple you are.

Layla-I pray that you have more good days than bad days and that time will heal this illness. I see now, why Lacey would write how "all her complaints shrink to nothing." I feel the same. God bless you Miss Layla. Sweet lady.
